    Observation Of Very High Energy Cosmic-ray Families In Emulsion Chambers At High Mountain Altitudes (i)

    Characteristics of cosmic-ray hadronic interactions in the 1015 - 1017 eV range are studied by observing a total of 429 cosmic-ray families of visible energy greater than 100 TeV found in emulsion chamber experiments at high mountain altitudes, Chacaltaya (5200 m above sea level) and the Pamirs (4300 m above sea level). Extensive comparisons were made with simulated families based on models so far proposed, concentrating on the relation between the observed family flux and the behaviour of high-energy showers in the families, hadronic and electromagnetic components. It is concluded that there must be global change in characteristics of hadronic interactions at around 1016 eV deviating from thise known in the accelerator energy range, specially in the forwardmost angular region of the collision. A detailed study of a new shower phenomenon of small-pT particle emissions, pT being of the order of 10 MeV/c, is carried out and its relation to the origin of huge "halo" phenomena associated with extremely high energy families is discussed as one of the possibilities.     Observation Of A High-energy Cosmic-ray Family Caused By A Centauro-type Nuclear Interaction In The Joint Emulsion Chamber Experiment At The Pamirs

    An exotic cosmic-ray family event is observed in the large emulsion chamber exposed by the joint at the Pamirs (4360 m above sea level). The family is composed of 120γ-ray-induced showers and 37 hadron-induced showers with individual visible energy exceeding 1 TeV. The decisive feature of the event is the hadron dominance: ΣEγ, ΣE(γ) h, 〈Eγ, 〈E(γ) h〉, 〈Eγ·Rγ〉 and 〈E(γ)·Rh〉 being 298 TeV, 476 TeV, 2.5 TeV, 12.9 TeV, 28.6 GeV m and 173 GeV m, respectively. Most probably the event is due to a Centauro interaction, which occured in the atmosphere at ∼700 m above the chamber.     On the histogenesis of cardiac myxoma

    Objective - to investigate the morphological and phenotypic features of cardiac myxoma (CM), to discuss argumentative issues on the sources of its growth. Subjects and methods. The investigation included 176 sporadic and familial myxomas originating from different cardiac chambers (96% from the atria). The histological, ultrastructural, and immunohistochemical features of the cells and vessels of this tumor were studied. Results. The morphological and phenotypic features of the embryonic endothelium resembling the cells of the primary cardiovascular network were found in the cells and vessels of CM. No signs of other mesenchymal derivatives were detected. Discussion. The authors anticipate that there is focal cessation of maturation of the embryonic endocardial endothelium and its persistence - hamartia. Postnatal proliferation of embryonic hamartia forms the tumor hamartoma. Differentiated cells may retain the phenotypic (but not morphological) features of closely related cells that have a common precursor. Conclusion. The results of the study have allowed the authors to consider CM to be hamartoma, a monohistioid benign embryonic endocardial endothelioma.     TEACHING THE SCIENTIFIC STYLE OF SPEECH TO FOREIGN STUDENTS: HISTORY, THEORY, METHODOLOGY

    An extremely important task of teaching foreign students in universities of the Russian Federation is mastering the scientific style of speech (SSS). For technical and natural profiles, the language is a step towards mastering special disciplines for students' further professional life, therefore the SSS goes through the entire course of Russian, accompanying a foreigner throughout the entire period of their study. The purpose of our research was to reveal the sources and results of the mental "restructuring" of the teaching and learning system of SSS in universities of different profiles. For this, authors had investigated the history of the scientific style as an independent variety of the national language, studied and compared the curricula of universities of different profiles, developed and conducted a pedagogical experiment to analyze the qualitative changes in students' knowledge at different stages of learning. The research was carried out based on the programs of a technical stream (Engineering Academy of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia) and natural sciences stream (Medical Faculty of the Saratov State Medical University). The control group consisted of foreign students of the Nizhniy Novgorod Academy of the MIA of Russia. The number of informants was 60 (20 from each university). To verify the formulated hypothesis about a qualitative change in attitudes towards the study of SSS, a 10-item questionnaire was developed. This questionnaire was proposed to students of 1-2 and 3-4 years of study. The results were systematized using the Statistics 6.0 program and were summarized in tables and diagrams. An analysis of the work programs of the three universities showed a general trend of gradual separation of educational material on the scientific style and vocabulary of terms from the integrative course of Russian as a foreign language. This separation starts from the A2 + level at the preparatory department and continues with the appearance of disciplines entirely devoted to SSS in 3-4 years of study (level B1-C1). A special group is represented by postgraduate education programs (postgraduate studies) based on the material of the SSS and professional communication. The survey results showed differences in the initial level of the scientific thinking formation: high - 21%, medium - 46%, low - 33% in 1-2 years of study, and 34%, 53%, and 13% in 3-4 years of study, respectively. At the same time, a high level of motivation to study Russian scientific terminology was noted among 89% of the surveyed junior students and 100% of the older ones. The problematic thematic and cognitive areas, the work with which must be strengthened, are noted: typified derivation schemes in the terminology system, the frame structure of the phrase in the SSS, compression, and decompression of a scientific text. The authors propose a specific pedagogical methodology, educational materials, and methods, which allow the gradual expansion of the cognitive capabilities of students through the introduction of structured knowledge and practical skills in working with SSS texts in Russian

    Dynamics of Expression of Cytokine Genes and Macrophage Content in the Lungs and Kidneys after Subtotal Hepatectomy in Rats

    The role of the lungs and kidneys in liver regeneration after subtotal hepatectomy was studied on a rat model. It was found that production of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) in the lungs and kidneys and expression of cytokine genes Il1b, Il6, Il10, and tnfa significantly increased. Analysis of the dynamics of lung macrophage population showed that accumulation of HGF and the increase in the expression of cytokine genes in the lungs were accompanied by simultaneous increase in the number of CD68+ cells, which attested to the leading role of macrophages in activation of HGF synthesis in the lungs.     Sex differences of inflammatory and immune response in pups of Wistar rats with SIRS

    It is a common fact, that the content of sex hormones in humans and animals varies in different age periods. The functional state of the immune system also changes with age. However, sex differences studies of inflammatory and immune responses during puberty prevail in literature. Investigation of immune responses to LPS peculiarities in prepubertal females and males may contribute to the development of more effective immunotherapy and minimize side effects of children vaccination. Therefore, the aim of this work was to investigate the LPS-induced SIRS sex differences in prepubertal Wistar rats. Despite the absence of sex differences in estradiol and testosterone levels, LPS-induced inflammatory changes in liver and lungs are more pronounced among males. Males demonstrate the increasing neopterin, corticosterone levels and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity. Not less important is that in females, demonstrating less morphological changes in liver and lungs, endotoxin level is tenfold higher, and corticosterone level decreases. Thus, endotoxin cannot be used as a marker of the severity of multiple organ failure in prepubertal period. The LPS-induced immune reactions in females and males are similar and are characterized by immunosuppression. Both females and males have decreased production of cytokines (IL-2, IL-4, TNF-α, TGF-β) and the absolute number of CD3 + and CD3 + CD8 + lymphocytes in blood. The acute atrophy of thymus and apoptosis of thymic cells are revealed in animals of both sexes. However, the number of CD3 + CD4 + T-helpers and CD4 + CD25 + Foxp3 + T-cells decreases only in females with SIRS, and in males there was a decrease of CD45R + B-cells. The least expressed sex differences in immune responses in the prepubertal period can be determined by the low levels of sex steroids and the absence of their immunomodulatory effect. Further studies require the identification of mechanisms, determining the sex differences in the inflammatory and immune responses in prepubertal animals. © 2020, The Author(s)
