SUSY-QCD effects on neutralino dark matter annihilation beyond scalar or gaugino mass unification
We describe in detail our calculation of the full supersymmetric (SUSY) QCD
corrections to neutralino annihilation into heavy quarks and extend our
numerical analysis of the resulting dark matter relic density to scenarios
without scalar or gaugino mass unification. In these scenarios, the final state
is often composed of top quarks and the annihilation proceeds through Z^0-boson
or scalar top-quark exchanges. The impact of the corrections is again shown to
be sizable, so that they must be taken into account systematically in global
analyses of the supersymmetry parameter space.Comment: 27 page
Interplay of gaugino (co)annihilation processes in the context of a precise relic density calculation
The latest Planck data allow one to determine the dark matter relic density
with previously unparalleled precision. In order to achieve a comparable
precision on the theory side, we have calculated the full
corrections to the most relevant annihilation and
coannihilation processes for relic density calculations within the Minimal
Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The interplay of these processes is
discussed. The impact of the radiative corrections on the resulting relic
density is found to be larger than the experimental uncertainty of the Planck
data.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, 18th International Conference From the Planck

Neutralino Annihilation into Massive Quarks with SUSY-QCD Corrections
We compute the full O(alpha_s) supersymmetric (SUSY) QCD corrections for
neutralino annihilation into massive quarks through gauge or Higgs bosons and
squarks in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), including the
known resummation of logarithmically enhanced terms. The numerical impact of
the corrections on the extraction of SUSY mass parameters from cosmological
data is analyzed for gravity-mediated SUSY breaking scenarios and shown to be
sizable, so that these corrections must be included in common analysis tools.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Predicted rocket and shuttle effects on stratospheric ozone
The major chemical effluents of either solid- or liquid-fueled rockets that can potentially perturb stratospheric ozone include chlorine compounds (HCl), nitrogen compounds (NO(x)), and hydrogen compounds (H2 and H2O). Radicals (Cl, ClO, H, OH, HO2, NO, and NO2) formed directly or indirectly from rocket exhaust can cause the catalytic destruction of ozone. Other exhaust compounds that could presumably lead to ozone destruction either by direct reaction with ozone or by providing a surface for heterogeneous processes include the particulates Al2O3, ice, and soot. These topics are discussed in terms of the possible effects of rocket exhausts on stratospheric ozone
An Open-Source Plate Reader
Microplate readers are foundational instruments in experimental biology and bioengineering that enable multiplexed spectrophotometric measurements. To enhance their accessibility, we here report the design, construction, validation, and benchmarking of an open-source microplate reader. The system features full-spectrum absorbance and fluorescence emission detection, in situ optogenetic stimulation, and stand-alone touch screen programming of automated assay protocols. The total system cost
Prolonged Elevated Concentrations of Estradiol Do Not Affect Conception Rates in Beef Cattle
Following treatments causing either prolonged elevated concentrations of estradiol associated with development of persistent follicles or inhibited elevated concentrations of estradiol and development of persistent follicles, conception rates were compared. Beef females received either four norgestomet implants for 9 days (day 0 = treatment initiation; n=59) or one norgestomet implant for 7 days and three additional norgestomet implants for 2 days (n=60). All implants were removed on day 9 followed by estrous detection and AI for 7 days. Treatment and day interacted to affect estradiol concentrations from day 0 to day 9 with elevated estradiol in females treated with one norgestomet implant for 7 days. Conception rates to AI were similar across treatments. Prolonged elevated concentrations of estradiol associated with development of persistent ovarian follicles do not affect fertility when persistent ovarian follicles are not allowed to ovulate
