The goal of the project Bazhum is to create a database of contents of Polish humanities journals. We plan to upload the list of contents from a wide spectrum of journals. We are currently researching the titles. In the field of our interest are all journals since the mid-19th century, they are being worked on from the first issue. It is already possible to do a basic search of the database by the names of authors and titles of articles. We are currently developing the search options to make it possible to do an advanced search by keywords, fragments of abstracts, Bolean operators etc. The project team has a modular structure: service, librarians and cataloguers. For many months we have been working with external institutions, like the libraries of Polish Academy of Science (PAN) and others. We receive a lot of positive feedback from the world of academia, regarding the usefulness of the database Bazhum. It starts even to be used by libraries in creating bibliographies of individual authors and in creating the indexes of contents for journals over a span of many years. We have developed a group of tools for editing and data collection. We have adopted the standards of bibliographic description in modern bibliographic databases. A collection of approx. 50.000 simplifed bibliographic records is accessible on the YADDA platform

The paper presents the conceptual design of a database for the European Portal of Logistics Services (EPLOS) and its application. The database contains the data on logistics companies, the infrastructure for road, railway, inland, and air transport, as well as the data on the nodal elements of logistics infrastructure (warehouse facilities, seaports, transhipment terminals). Complete and verified information is the fundamental condition for rational decisions about the realization of logistics processes on a meso- and macroeconomic scale. Authors present the relations in the making of the EPLOS database, its assumed scope, and the potential benefits for the TSL market from accessing the EPLOS database

Wstęp. Stwardnienie rozsiane jest przewlekłą chorobą ośrodkowego układu nerwowego o podłożu autoimmunologicznym, w której obok narastającej niesprawności fizycznej występują zaburzenia neuropsychologiczne, prowadzące do znacznego obniżenia jakości życia pacjentów.Cel. Materiał i metody. W badaniu wzięło udział 62 pacjentów (37 kobiet i 25 mężczyzn) z remitująco-rzutową postacią stwardnienia rozsianego oraz 15 pacjentów (9 kobiet i 6 mężczyzn) z rwą kulszową, którzy stanowili grupę referencyjną. Częstość występowania zespołu zmęczenia, depresji i jakość życia pacjentów oceniano za pomocą Zmodyfikowanej Skali Wpływu Zmęczenia, Skali Depresji Becka oraz Kwestionariusza Dotyczącego Zdrowia EQ-5D.Wyniki. U pacjentów z remitująco-rzutową postacią stwardnienia rozsianego zmęczenie o średnim nasileniu wykazano u 45,16% (n=28), natomiast depresję u 51,61% chorych (n=32), w tym łagodne zaburzenia depresyjne u 33,87% chorych (n=21), umiarkowane u 11,29% pacjentów (n=7), a nasilone u 6,45% (n=4). Wnioski. Zespół zmęczenia i depresja występują u znaczącej części chorych na postać remitująco-rzutową stwardnienia rozsianego, zaburzając funkcjonowanie chorych w wymiarze psychospołecznym i istotnie obniżając ich jakość życia. Nasilenie zmęczenia w wymiarze ogólnym w grupie chorych na postać remitująco-rzutową SM istotnie dodatnio koreluje z nasileniem depresji. (PNN 2017;6(2):81–87)Introduction. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease of central nervous system of autoimmunological origin, in which next to an increased physical disability, neuropsychological disorders exist, that lead to significant decrease in patients’ quality of life.Aim. The aim of the study was the assessment of prevalence of fatigue syndrome and depression in patients with multiple sclerosis and their influence on functioning in physical, cognitive and psychosocial dimension as well as on the quality of life.Materials and Methods. 62 patients (37 females and 25 males) with relapsing-remitting subtype of multiple sclerosis and 15 patients with sciatica (9 females and 6 males) as the reference group were included in the study. Prevalence of fatigue syndrome and depression, as well as patients’ quality of life were assessed with use of Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and a standardized instrument for use as a measure of health outcome EQ-5D.Results. Fatigue of moderate intensity was noticed in 45.16% (n=28) of patients with relapsing-remitting subtype of MS, when depression was apparent in 51.61% of patients (n=32), including mild depressive disorders in 33.8% of patients (n=21), moderate in 11.29% of patients and severe in 6.45% (n=4). The obtained results did not reach statistical significance when compared to results obtained in the reference group. Statistically significant dependence between the intensity of depression and influence of fatigue on functioning in psychosocial dimension was mainly observed in the group of patients with multiple sclerosis.Conclusions. Fatigue syndrome and depression occur in significant part of patients with relapsing-remitting subtype of multiple sclerosis, disturbing their functioning in psychosocial dimension and considerably decreasing their quality of life. Increase in fatigue in general dimension has a significantly positive correlation with exacerbation of depression in the group of patients with relapsing-remitting subtype of multiple sclerosis. Establishing a balance between the risk of stent thrombosis and the risk of perioperative bleeding in patients treatedwith dual antiplatelet therapy remains a major therapeutic challenge. We report a case of 60-year-old man after stent implantation in left main coronary artery and requiring urgent operative treatment. The result of optical coherence tomography helped us to decide about further proceeding and is an example of a very helpful application of this new imaging technique in everyday practice.Establishing a balance between the risk of stent thrombosis and the risk of perioperative bleeding in patients treatedwith dual antiplatelet therapy remains a major therapeutic challenge. Introduction. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease and the most common cause of dementia.Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the concentration of the 42 amino acid isoform of Aβ (Aβ1-42), Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40 (42 amino acid isoform of Aβ/40 amino acid isoform of Aβ) ratio, Tau and hyperphosphorylated Tau (pTau) protein in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients diagnosed with Alzheimer disease (AD) and to compare their correlations with degree of cognitive impairment assessed with Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE).Material and Methods. In this study, using the ELISA immunoassay standard kits, we measured the average concentration of Aβ1-42, Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40 ratio, Tau and pTau protein, in the CSF obtained from subjects diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease (n=20, 13 women and 7 men, mean age 69.9±10.4). The cognitive functions of the patients were assessed with MMSE test. The correlations between concentration of CSF biomarkers and degree of cognitive impairment were measured using nonparametric Spearman rank correlation coefficient.Results. Our results showed negative correlation between concentration of Tau protein in CSF and the number of points scored in MMSE test (r=-0.45; p=0.046). There was no correlation between a degree of cognitive impairment assessed with MMSE test and concentration of pTau (r=-0.42; p=0.066), Aβ1-42 (r=0.02; p=0.927), and Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40 ratio (r=-0.07; p=0.775). There was also positive correlation between concentration of Aβ1-42 and Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40 ratio (r=0.91; p<0.0001), and between concentration of Tau and pTau (r=0.94; p<0.0001).Conclusions. Tau protein plays not only a crucial role in the early diagnostics, but also reflects the intensity of cognitive impairment in course of Alzheimer disease. (JNNN 2018;7(4):150–154)Wstęp. Choroba Alzheimera (AD) jest postępującą chorobą neurodegeneracyjną i najczęstszą przyczyną otępienia.Cel. Celem pracy była ocena stężenia 42 aminokwasowego Aβ1 (Aβ1-42), współczynnika 42 aminokwasowego Aβ1/40 aminokwasowego Aβ1 (Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40), białka Tau i nadmiernie ufosforylowanej formy białka Tau (pTau) w płynie mózgowo-rdzeniowym (PMR) pacjentów z rozpoznaną chorobą Alzheimera (AD) oraz porównanie ich stężenia ze stopniem zaburzeń funkcji poznawczych ocenianych przy pomocy krótkiej skali oceny stanu psychicznego (MMSE).Materiał i metody. W badaniu, przy użyciu standardowych zestawów testów immunologicznych ELISA, oznaczono średnie stężenie Aβ1-42, współczynnika Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40, białka Tau i pTau w PMR pobranym od pacjentów z rozpoznaną chorobą Alzheimera (n=20, 13 kobiet i 7 mężczyzn, średnia wieku 69,9±10,4 lat). Funkcje poznawcze pacjentów oceniano przy pomocy testu MMSE. Korelacje pomiędzy stężeniem biomarkerów w PMR a stopniem upośledzenia funkcji poznawczych były mierzone za pomocą nieparametrycznego współczynnika Spearmana.Wyniki. (PNN 2018;7(4):150–154

Scenario analyses for a sustainable transport system development

    Get PDF
The paper presents selected aspects of developing sustainable transport system and provides the essential elements of scenario analysis procedure. The scenario analyse permits a background for setting approaches for the development of transport system. A major step towards reliable scenario analyses is establishing a system of criteria and indicators for evaluating the quality of analyse results. The appropriate system of criteria was proposed as a support for decision maker examining variants of transport system development. Scenario analyses require a tool for traffic distribution into transport network under different scenarios of its development. The large scale and detailed transport systems can be investigated with EMITRANSYS model – a new tool for multivariate distribution of traffic flow with regard to ecological, economic and technological criteria

hsa-miR-20b-5p and hsa-miR-363-3p affect expression of PTEN and BIM tumor suppressor genes and modulate survival of T-ALL cells in vitro

T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is an aggressive malignancy arising from T lymphocyte precursors. We have previously shown by miRNA-seq, that miRNAs from the mir-106a-363 cluster are overexpressed in pediatric T-ALL. In silico analysis indicated their potential involvement in the regulation of apoptosis. Here, we aimed to test the hypothesis on the pro-tumorigenic roles of these miRNAs in T-ALL cells in vitro. We demonstrate, for the first time, that hsa-miR-20b-5p and hsa-miR-363-3p from the mir-106a-363 cluster, when upregulated in T-ALL cells in vitro, protect leukemic cells from apoptosis, enhance proliferation, and contribute to growth advantage. We show, using dual luciferase reporter assays, Ago2-RNA immunoprecipitation, RT-qPCR, and Western blots, that the oncogenic effects of these upregulated miRNAs might, at least in part, be mediated by the downregulation of two important tumor suppressor genes, PTEN and BIM, targeted by both miRNAs. Additionally, we demonstrate the cooperative effects of these two miRNAs by simultaneous inhibition of both miRNAs as compared to the inhibition of single miRNAs. We postulate that hsa-miR-20b-5p and hsa-miR-363-3p from the mir-106a-363 cluster might serve as oncomiRs in T-ALL, by contributing to post-transcriptional repression of key tumor suppressors, PTEN and BIM

Early events during human coronavirus OC43 entry to the cell

AbstractThe Coronaviridae family clusters a number of large RNA viruses, which share several structural and functional features. However, members of this family recognize different cellular receptors and exploit different entry routes, what affects their species specificity and virulence. The aim of this study was to determine how human coronavirus OC43 enters the susceptible cell. Using confocal microscopy and molecular biology tools we visualized early events during infection. We found that the virus employs caveolin-1 dependent endocytosis for the entry and the scission of virus-containing vesicles from the cell surface is dynamin-dependent. Furthermore, the vesicle internalization process requires actin cytoskeleton rearrangements. With our research we strove to broaden the understanding of the infection process, which in future may be beneficial for the development of a potential therapeutics.</jats:p
