    Noise performance of the radio-frequency single-electron transistor

    We have analyzed a radio-frequency single-electron-transistor (RF-SET) circuit that includes a high-electron-mobility-transistor (HEMT)amplifier, coupled to the single-electron-transistor (SET) via an impedance transformer. We consider how power is transferred between different components of the circuit, model noise components, and analyze the operating conditions of practical importance. The results are compared with experimental data on SETs. Good agreement is obtained between our noise model and the experimental results. Our analysis shows, also, that the biggest improvement to the present RF-SETs will be achieved by increasing the charging energy and by lowering the HEMT amplifier noise contribution.Peer reviewe

    Autism spectrum disorder severity as a predictor of Battelle Developmental Inventory – Second Edition (BDI-2) scores in toddlers

    OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the severity of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) symptomology and scores on the Battelle Developmental Inventory, Second Edition (BDI-2) in toddlers (n = 325). METHODS: Total scores on the BDI-2 and individual domain scores were examined to explore the relationship between severity of ASD and developmental quotient, impairment in personal-social skills, adaptive functioning, cognition, and communication. RESULTS: Regression analyses controlled for the impact of age and IQ on results, indicating that higher autism severity scores were associated with overall greater impairment and in the total scores and the individual domains of the BDI-2. The domains were found to be differentially affected by severity of ASD. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest severity of ASD may influence symptom presentation. Clinical implications of study findings are discussed

    Measurement of the spin-dependent structure function g1 of the proton

    We have measured the spin-dependent structure function g1p of the proton in deep inelastic scattering of polarized muons off polarized protons, in the kinematic range 0.003 < x < 0.7 and 1 GeV2 < Q2 < 60 GeV2. Its first moment, 2b01g1p(x)dx, is found to be 0.136\ub10.011 (stat.)\ub1 0.011 (syst.) at Q2 = 10GeV2. This value is smaller than the prediction of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule by two standard deviations, and is consistent with previous measurements. A combined analysis of all available proton, deuteron and neutron data confirms the Bjorken sum rule to within 10% of the theoretical valu
