    This book is dedicated to all the people interested in the CoRoT mission and the beautiful data that were delivered during its six year duration. Either amateurs, professional, young or senior researchers, they will find treasures not only at the time of this publication but also in the future twenty or thirty years. It presents the data in their final version, explains how they have been obtained, how to handle them, describes the tools necessary to understand them, and where to find them. It also highlights the most striking first results obtained up to now. CoRoT has opened several unexpected directions of research and certainly new ones still to be discovered

    Detection of single electron spin resonance in a double quantum dot

    Spin-dependent transport measurements through a double quantum dot are a valuable tool for detecting both the coherent evolution of the spin state of a single electron as well as the hybridization of two-electron spin states. In this paper, we discuss a model that describes the transport cycle in this regime, including the effects of an oscillating magnetic field (causing electron spin resonance) and the effective nuclear fields on the spin states in the two dots. We numerically calculate the current flow due to the induced spin flips via electron spin resonance and we study the detector efficiency for a range of parameters.     Comparison of Magnetic Flux Distribution between a Coronal Hole and a Quiet Region

    Employing Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) deep magnetograms and HĪ±{\alpha} images in a quiet region and a coronal hole, observed on September 14 and 16, 2004, respectively, we have explored the magnetic flux emergence, disappearance and distribution in the two regions. The following results are obtained: (1) The evolution of magnetic flux in the quiet region is much faster than that in the coronal hole, as the flux appeared in the form of ephemeral regions in the quiet region is 4.3 times as large as that in the coronal hole, and the flux disappeared in the form of flux cancellation, 2.9 times as fast as in the coronal hole. (2) More magnetic elements with opposite polarities in the quiet region are connected by arch filaments, estimating from magnetograms and HĪ±{\alpha} images. (3) We measured the magnetic flux of about 1000 magnetic elements in each observing region. The flux distribution of network and intranetwork (IN) elements is similar in both polarities in the quiet region. For network fields in the coronal hole, the number of negative elements is much more than that of positive elements. However for the IN fields, the number of positive elements is much more than that of negative elements. (4) In the coronal hole, the fraction of negative flux change obviously with different threshold flux density. 73% of the magnetic fields with flux density larger than 2 Gauss is negative polarity, and 95% of the magnetic fields is negative, if we only measure the fields with their flux density larger than 20 Gauss. Our results display that in a coronal hole, stronger fields is occupied by one predominant polarity; however the majority of weaker fields, occupied by the other polarity

    Microwave sintering of dense and lattice 3Y-TZP samples shaped by digital light processing

    Nowadays it is possible to produce ceramic parts with solid and complex shapes with rapid and efficient shaping and sintering techniques. In this paper, 3mol% yttria stabilized zirconia (3Y-TZP) dense and lattice parts were shaped by Digital light processing method (DLP) and densified by conventional (CV) and microwave (MW) sintering. 3Y-TZP samples were MW sintered up to 1550 Ā°C with different heating rates (10, 30, and 50 Ā°C/min) for the dense samples and 30 Ā°C/min for the lattice samples. Controlled thermal cycles with a homogenous heating and no thermal runaway was reached. CV sintering was carried out at 10 Ā°C/min up to 1550 Ā°C. No inter-layer delamination was detected after sintering by the two methods. Both dense and lattice MW-sintered samples reached high final densities (equivalent to obtained values with CV-sintered samples, i.e., ā‰„98% T.D.), but exhibited a lower average grain size than CV-sintered materials. The different architectures between dense and lattice samples resulted in a different specific absorbed power: the power absorbed by the dense sample is lower than that absorbed by the lattice one meaning that this sample architecture heats up easily

    Effects of zinc supplementation on cognitive function in healthy middle-aged and older adults: the ZENITH study

    A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled design was employed to investigate the effects of Zn supplementation on cognitive function in 387 healthy adults aged 55ā€“87 years. Several measures of visual memory, working memory, attention and reaction time were obtained using the Cambridge Automated Neuropsychological Test Battery at baseline and then after 3 and 6 months of 0 (placebo), 15 or 30 mg Zn/d. Younger adults (70 years), and performance improved with practice on some measures. For two out of eight dependent variables, there were significant interactions indicating a beneficial effect (at 3 months only) of both 15 and 30 mg/d on one measure of spatial working memory and a detrimental effect of 15 mg/d on one measure of attention. Further work is required to establish whether these findings generalise to older adults in poorer mental and physical health and with less adequate Zn intake and status than the present sample

    The papers in this special edition are a very small selection from those presented at the EU-NESCA (Network of European Studies Centres in Asia) conference on "the EU and East Asia within an Evolving Global Order: Ideas, Actors and Processes" in November 2008 in Brussels. The conference was the culmination of three years of research activity involving workshops and conferences bringing together scholars from both regions primarily to discuss relations between Europe and Asia, perceptions of Europe in Asia, and the relationship between the European regional project and emerging regional forms in Asia. But although this was the last of the three major conferences organised by the consortium, it in many ways represented a starting point rather than the end; an opportunity to reflect on the conclusions of the first phase of collaboration and point towards new and continuing research agendas for the future

    Computer-Assisted Proofs of Some Identities for Bessel Functions of Fractional Order

    We employ computer algebra algorithms to prove a collection of identities involving Bessel functions with half-integer orders and other special functions. These identities appear in the famous Handbook of Mathematical Functions, as well as in its successor, the DLMF, but their proofs were lost.
