The structure of Deitmar Schemes, II. Zeta functions and automorphism groups

    Get PDF
We provide a coherent overview of a number of recent results obtained by the authors in the theory of schemes defined over the field with one element. Essentially, this theory encompasses the study of a functor which maps certain geometries including graphs to Deitmar schemes with additional structure, as such introducing a new zeta function for graphs. The functor is then used to determine automorphism groups of the Deitmar schemes and base extensions to fields.Comment: 8 page

CBR and MBR techniques: review for an application in the emergencies domain

    Get PDF
The purpose of this document is to provide an in-depth analysis of current reasoning engine practice and the integration strategies of Case Based Reasoning and Model Based Reasoning that will be used in the design and development of the RIMSAT system. RIMSAT (Remote Intelligent Management Support and Training) is a European Commission funded project designed to: a.. Provide an innovative, 'intelligent', knowledge based solution aimed at improving the quality of critical decisions b.. Enhance the competencies and responsiveness of individuals and organisations involved in highly complex, safety critical incidents - irrespective of their location. In other words, RIMSAT aims to design and implement a decision support system that using Case Base Reasoning as well as Model Base Reasoning technology is applied in the management of emergency situations. This document is part of a deliverable for RIMSAT project, and although it has been done in close contact with the requirements of the project, it provides an overview wide enough for providing a state of the art in integration strategies between CBR and MBR technologies.Postprint (published version

Exploiting simple corporate memory in iterative coalition games

    Get PDF
Amongst the challenging problems that must be addressed in order to create increasingly automated electronic commerce systems are those which involve forming coalitions of agents to exploit a particular market opportunity. Furthermore economic systems are normally continuous dynamic systems generating many instances of the same or similar problems (the regular calls for tender, regular emergence of new markets etc.).The work described in this paper explores how simple forms of memory can be exploited by agents over time to guide decision making in iterative sequences of coalition formation problems enabling them to build up social knowledge in order to improve their own utility and the ability of the population to produce increasingly well suited coalitions for a simple call-for-tender economy.Postprint (published version

    Vamos de Compras [8th-10th grade]

In this unit students will examine the similarities and differences between the shopping experience in the United States and in Spanish speaking countries. They will identify the reasons behind the differences and uncover their cultural significance. This unit will focus on three different shopping experiences which are common in Spanish speaking countries. The Mercado experience, where bargaining is a way of life. The super department store, where customers can find anything they wish from cars to produce. Finally, areas where neighborhood shops line the streets and shopping requires visiting multiple specialty stores in the same area. This unit includes a project where students will design a shopping area for a Spanish speaking community. Students must take into account the culture and the specific needs of the people in the community. In the end, students will understand that shopping experiences vary by culture and region and successful retail interactions are ones that are helpful, informative, and respectful of culture

Goats in the Ancient Near East and Their Relationship with the Mythology, Fairytale and Folklore of These Cultures

    Get PDF
This study investigates the role of goats in the myths and folklore of various Ancient Near Eastern (ANE) cultures. Images in artefacts, and metaphors or direct reference to goats in texts (the primary sources in this study) from the geographic area of Mesopotamia, Sumer, Akkad, Anatolia and Ancient Iran (Elam) were studied. Secondary sources provided the context within which the sources occurred. Where images and references to goats occurred, their meaning and relationship to belief systems or their underlying ‘motifs’ within the ANE cultures are identified, categorised and discussed. This study shows that aside from the important utilitarian function of goats in the ANE, their use in rituals and symbolism has provided us with several motifs related to goats that are still in use today. These include the motifs of fertility, intelligence and craftiness

La cultura de comida – The culture of food

    Get PDF
This unit was designed for level 1 Spanish students using the text ¡Exprésate! and the book Hungry Planet: What the World Eats by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio as a guide. In this unit, students will investigate the relationship between food and culture, the effects of globalization on México and the United States relating to food, and how to give direction in an informal setting. This unit builds upon students’ knowledge of basic Spanish grammar and the geography of Spanish-speaking countries, specifically, México. With the performance task, students will synthesize what they have learned throughout the unit by creating or re-writing a recipe using only what is available to the people of their assigned region. The recipe must be written in Spanish and utilize informal commands. After the recipe is written students will record a narrated version of the recipe using a presentation tool such as PowerPoint or Prezi

    La Guerra Civil [8th grade]

In this unit, students will explore the events and repercussions of the Spanish Civil War. Students will focus on how art illustrates world events and how an artist can be influenced by the world they occupy. Students will also take a look at how propaganda is used during war time and its effect on the population. This unit builds upon students’ knowledge of basic Spanish grammar and Spanish history. With the performance task, students will create a propaganda poster in the target language. The subject of the poster can be any issue students feel strongly about: the environment, politics, school policy, world issues, etc. Students will be assessed on the clarity of their message, grammar, content, and attractiveness of the poster. Poster will include target language command and supporting sentences. In addition to the poster students will take a unit test which covers the imperative and preterite more in depth
