Se estudia el pensamiento lingüístico de Humboldt. Se presenta la visión del hombre moderno en el pensamiento alemán de comienzos del siglo XIX, mostrando a continuación el lugar de la lengua en la relación hombre-mundo, que es base constitutiva de la formación (Bildung), y la relación hablar y pensar. Se concluye con el repaso de la influencia de la teoría lingüística de HumboldtHumboldt' s linguistic thought is studied. The view of the modern man in the German thought at the beginning of the XIXth century is exposed, showing later the place of the language in the man-world relationship, which is the constitutive basis of the education (Bildung), and the connection between talk and think. Passive acoustic monitoring of ambient noise in the Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean

Natural ambient noise in the ocean is generated by the interaction of wind, waves, ice and biological sound sources. This thesis investigates ambient noise and its dynamics at selected locations in the Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean. The Southern Ocean provides an important habitat for marine mammals. Rising noise levels might negatively affect marine mammals, which rely on their acoustic senses for foraging, orientation and communication. Two autonomous underwater recorders were deployed on moorings at 66° S and 69° S along the zero meridian, they provided a quasi 3-year acoustic dataset which was analysed using Matlab TM . A set of good environmental status descriptors, as proposed under the European Union marine strategy framework directive, was used to evaluate low frequency continuous noise. The recorded ambient noise, varying strongly over time and frequency, was correlated to ice coverage, wind speed and solar radiation. Seasonal sound pressure level change of 4.25 dB re 1 µPa was caused by the annual change in sea ice coverage. On a Weekly to sub-diurnal scale, sound pressure level variation is caused mainly by changes in wind speed. Marine mammal choruses influence distinct parts of the noise spectrum. The low frequency chorus generated by blue whales is the loudest frequency band in the ambient noise. During Antarctic winter, signals of unknown origin dominate the mid frequency part of the spectrum. The chorus of this signals exhibits a circadian rhythm at the beginning of winter. Over the 3-year recording period, a low frequency noise increase of 0.36 db re 1 µPa 2 s −1 at 40 hz per was detected. These findings can be used as baseline for future passive acoustic monitoring in the Southern Ocean

Brain Tumor Synthetic Segmentation in 3D Multimodal MRI Scans

The magnetic resonance (MR) analysis of brain tumors is widely used for diagnosis and examination of tumor subregions. The overlapping area among the intensity distribution of healthy, enhancing, non-enhancing, and edema regions makes the automatic segmentation a challenging task. Here, we show that a convolutional neural network trained on high-contrast images can transform the intensity distribution of brain lesions in its internal subregions. Specifically, a generative adversarial network (GAN) is extended to synthesize high-contrast images. A comparison of these synthetic images and real images of brain tumor tissue in MR scans showed significant segmentation improvement and decreased the number of real channels for segmentation. The synthetic images are used as a substitute for real channels and can bypass real modalities in the multimodal brain tumor segmentation framework. Segmentation results on BraTS 2019 dataset demonstrate that our proposed approach can efficiently segment the tumor areas. In the end, we predict patient survival time based on volumetric features of the tumor subregions as well as the age of each case through several regression models
