    Developable Rotationally Symmetric Kirigami‐Based Structures as Sensor Platforms

    Developable surfaces based on closed‐shape, planar, rotationally symmetric kirigami (RSK) sheets approximate 3D, globally curved surfaces upon (reversible) out‐of‐plane deflection. The distribution of stress and strain across the structure is characterized experimentally and by finite‐element analysis as a function of the material and cut parameters, enabling the integration with strain gauges to produce a wearable, conformal patch that can capture complex, multiaxis motion. Using the patch, real‐time tracking of shoulder joint and muscle behavior is demonstrated.     Characterization of kinetic and kinematic parameters for wearable robotics

    The design process of a wearable robotic device for human assistance requires the characterization of both kinetic and kinematic parameters (KKP) of the human joints. The first step in this process is to extract the KKP from different gait analyses studies. This work is based on the human lower limb considering the following activities of daily living (ADL): walking over ground, stairs ascending/descending, ramp ascending/descending and chair standing up. The usage of different gait analyses in the characterization process, causes the data to have great variations from one study to another. Therefore, the data is graphically represented using MatlabÂź and ExcelÂź to facilitate its assessment. Finally, the characterization of the KKP performed was proved to be useful in assessing the data reliability by directly comparing all the studies between each other; providing guidelines for the selection of actuator capacities depending on the end application; and highlighting optimization opportunities such as the implementation of agonist-antagonist actuators for particular human joints

    Determinants of consumers’ intentions to share knowledge and intentions to purchase on s-commerce sites: incorporating attitudes toward persuasion attempts into a social exchange model

    This research explores s-commerce users’ intentions to purchase and to share knowledge by incorporating ‘attitudes toward persuasion attempts,’ ‘ease of use,’ and ‘perceived usefulness’ into a social exchange theory model. A survey using an on-site purposive sampling technique was used to recruit the respondents, and an interception technique was used to approach the consumers. A total of 471 Korean consumers participated in this research. Based on 471 Korean social-commerce users, our results reveal that social exchange belief factors and a site’s usability affect user satisfaction, which subsequently affects users’ intentions to purchase and to share knowledge. In addition, attitudes toward persuasion attempts moderate the effect of satisfaction on users’ purchase intentions.     Making SENS: exploring the antecedents and impact of store environmental stewardship climate

    Retailers increasingly recognize that environmental responsibility is a strategic imperative. However, little research has investigated or identified the factors that facilitate the successful implementation of environmentally responsible strategies across a network of customer-facing sales units (stores). We propose that a store manager’s ability to lead by example facilitates this process by fostering a supportive climate for store environmental stewardship (SENS-climate). By examining the influence of store managers’ actions on sales associates’ perceptions of the SENS-climate, as well as the subsequent impact on their performance—measured by margins, as well as sales of green and regular products—this study demonstrates that store managers can foster a SENS-climate by articulating their prioritization of environmental responsibility in their operational decisions. These positive effects are sustained by relational factors, such as the moderating effect of the store manager–sales associate dyadic tenure. In contrast, when store managers display high variability in their environmental orientation, it hinders the development of SENS-climate perceptions among sales associates. If sales associates perceive an enabling SENS-climate, they achieve higher margins and more green but fewer regular sales

    Absorbing customer knowledge: how customer involvement enables service design success

    Customers are a knowledge resource outside of the firm that can be utilized for new service success by involving them in the design process. However, existing research on the impact of customer involvement (CI) is inconclusive. Knowledge about customers’ needs and on how best to serve these needs (articulated in the service concept) is best obtained from customers themselves. However, codesign runs the risk of losing control of the service concept. This research argues that of the processes of external knowledge, acquisition (via CI), customer knowledge assimilation, and concept transformation form a capability that enables the firm to exploit customer knowledge in the form of a successful new service. Data from a survey of 126 new service projects show that the impact of CI on new service success is fully mediated by customer knowledge assimilation (the deep understanding of customers’ latent needs) and concept transformation (the modification of the service concept due to customer insights). However, its impact is more nuanced. CI exhibits an “∩”-shaped relationship with transformation, indicating there is a limit to the beneficial effect of CI. Its relationship with assimilation is “U” shaped, suggesting a problem with cognitive inertia where initial learnings are ignored. Customer knowledge assimilation directly impacts success, while concept transformation only helps success in the presence of resource slack. An evolving new service design is only beneficial if the firm has the flexibility to adapt to change

    Despite growing academic and managerial interest in the interplay between goal orientation (i.e., learning, performance-approach, and performance-avoidance oriented) and external cues, much remains unknown. The motivation behind this study was to fill part of the gap in the literature by investigating (a) the relationship between three different types of goal orientation and knowledge sharing behaviors, and (b) how this relationship can change under the moderating role of knowledge sharing norms in the business-to-business sales context. By taking advantage of the nested structure of the dataset, the authors examined the cross-level interaction effects between goal orientation and knowledge sharing norms on salespeople’s knowledge sharing behaviors. Results indicate that norms have different moderating effects for salespeople with different goal orientations. Implications for knowledge sharing are discussed along with future research directions

The range of applicable models range from optical micromanipulation, plamonics, nano-antennae, near-field coupling and general light interaction with scatterers ranging from a few nanometers to several microns in size
