The present essay analyzes the prevalence granted to the figure of the “Summus Pontifex” on the authority of the Spanish monarchy in fr. Diego Valadés’s “Rhetorica christiana” (published in Perugia, 1579): the arguments of the “genus demonstrativum” that defend the papal authority in the New World and its graphical support (“stemmata”).peerReviewe
Spanish validation of the "Kidney Transplant Questionnaire": a useful instrument for assessing health related quality of life in kidney transplant patients
BACKGROUND: There is a growing interest in the evaluation of Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) among patients undergoing Renal Replacement Therapy. In Spain, no specific questionnaire exists for kidney transplant patients. Here we present the Spanish validation of the first specific HRQoL assessment tool: the kidney transplant questionnaire (KTQ). METHODS: Prospective study of 31 patients on transplant waiting list who received the first kidney. Patients were evaluated before transplant and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months, using the KTQ and the SF-36 Health Survey. Feasibility, validity, reliability, and sensibility to change were evaluated. RESULTS: Mean time of administration of the KTQ was 12 minutes. Correlation coefficients among KTQ dimensions range between 0.32 and 0.72. Correlation coefficients of KTQ dimensions with SF-36 PCS were low (r<0.4), and with SF-36 MCS were moderate-high (r>0.4) except for Physical Symptom dimension (r = 0.33). Cronbach's Alpha was satisfactory for all KTQ dimensions (Physical Symptoms = 0.80; Fatigue = 0.93; Uncertainty/Fear = 0.81; Emotional= 0.90) except Appearance (0.69). Intraclass correlation coefficients ranged between 0.63 and 0.85, similar to those of the original KTQ version. CONCLUSIONS: Results of validation study show that feasibility, validity, reliability and sensibility to change of the Spanish version of the KTQ are similar to those of the original version
Inicial “Emilia Barcia Boniffatti”.
Silent and oral reading methods on improving English reading comprehension among generation alpha pupils
Reading comprehension enables each child to make meaning of the world. Therefore, it is important to develop this during the child’s primary years in school. Using ex post facto design, this study investigated the effects of reading methods on English reading comprehension of randomly selected 75 Grade 2 pupils in a private school in the Philippines. The scores of pupils who read two comparable narrative passages in oral and silent were compared. Paired t-test results revealed a significant difference between oral reading and silent reading. Silent reading had a greater positive effect on the comprehension of the pupils. Likewise, it was the most preferred reading method among the respondents. Focus group discussion with English teachers' results suggested that silent reading was preferred specifically because it helps in understanding the story better, remembering words, and concentrating given its quiet and peaceful nature. It is recommended that teachers employ sustained silent reading classroom practices such as Silent Reading Activity (SRA) Reading Laboratory, Genuine Love for Reading activities through the Four-pronged approach, and Drop Everything and Read time. These methods will help to support the reading needs and preference of the generation alpha pupils and to further strengthen the positive effects of silent reading on improving their reading comprehension
Applying a Green Solvent with Microwave, Ultrasound, and Soxhlet Extraction Techniques to Quantify the Slip Additive Cis-1,3-docosenamide and Nine Oxidative Degradation Byproducts in Polypropylene Samples
Erucamide is used as an important slip agent for polymers. However, erucamide can
degrade during processing and long-term storage, forming various oxidation products. These degra dation products can affect the recovery rates of erucamide. In this study, investigated different
solid–liquid extraction methods (Soxhlet, microwave, and ultrasound) and used gas chromatography
with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to quantify erucamide and its degradation byproducts in polypropy lene (PP). A multivariable experiment was designed, and a mixed-effect approach was used to analyze
the results. Various extraction variables were examined, such as temperature, time, solvents, and PP
pretreatments. Using a mixed-effect model with a Kenward–Roger approximation, an R2 of the model
of 97% and p values of 0.168, 0.000, and 0.000 were obtained for the technical, solvent, and type of PP
pretreatment variables, respectively. The highest average recoveries of erucamide were found with
the microwave technique and were 96.4% using dichloromethane, 94.57% using cyclohexane, and
93.05% using limonene. With ultrasound, recoveries ranged between 85 and 92% for dichloromethane
and limonene. In addition, it was observed that the extraction method had better recovery results in
ground PP than in films and in pellets. Nine oxidative degradation byproducts of erucamide were
identified and semi-quantified by GC-MS. The reaction mechanisms for forming each byproduct
were proposed. The byproducts that experienced a higher rate of degradation of erucamide were
erucamide with a hydroxyl group at position one and 12-amino-6-12-oxo-dodecanoic acid, showing
more prominent peaks using the Soxhlet method with cyclohexane and dichloromethane as solvents
and polypropylene (PP) films as the type of material used.Universidad Tecnológica de Bolivar, Universidad de Cartagena, Universidad de la Cost
