Sialadenoma papilliferum (SP) is a rare benign epithelial tumor of salivary gland origin, its diagnosis being potentially challenging. It was first described by Abrams and Finck in 1969 as an analog of the cutaneous syringocystadenoma papilliferum. The aim of this comprehensive review is to highlight the clinical and histopathological diagnostic aspects of intraoral SP, analyzing cases previously described and reporting new cases. Methods. Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched up to February 2022, using as entry term “sialadenoma papilliferum”. No time limits were applied and only studies in English were taken into account. Only cases involving the mouth were included. Conference proceedings, personal communications, and letters to the editor were excluded. Results. In total, 42 out of 234 articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria, with 64 cases reported. Mean age of patients with SP was 57.2 years, with a higher prevalence among males. The most affected site was the palate, particularly the hard palate. Four cases with uncertain malignant features have been reported. While clinical manifestations of SP are rather unspecific (e.g., submucosal swelling with ulceration), histopathological and immunohistochemical features are quite peculiar, SP have a limited growth potential, leading to conservative excision as treatment of choice. Conclusions. SP, though rare, should be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of intraoral swellings, particularly those located on the palate

One of the most frequent monoclonal antibodies linked to MRONJ is Denosumab. In our study, attention was focused on different therapeutic approaches considering patients treated only with Denosumab or in combination with other drugs associated with the genesis of ONJ. We considered two different clinical approaches: sites treated without surgery; sites treated with traditional surgery or Er:YAG laser (2940nm, 250mJ, 20Hz). In our study, the discontinuation of the drug was evaluated in relation to treatment outcomes

MRONJ and implants: the risk of developing necrosis away from surgery

This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of MRONJ in patients treated with prosthetic implant rehabilitation. We evaluated the risk of MRONJ genesis comparing implant surgery with the development of necrosis after correct implant osteointegration. The implants' presence in these patients is a possible risk factor of necrosis development. The presence of implant might cause a reactivation of osteoclasts

Detecting volcanic sulfur dioxide plumes in the Northern Hemisphere using the Brewer spectrophotometer, other networks, and satellite observations

This paper demonstrates that SO 2 columnar amounts have significantly increased following the five largest volcanic eruptions of the past decade in the Northern Hemisphere. A strong positive signal was detected by all the existing networks either ground based (Brewer, EARLINET, AirBase) or from satellites (OMI, GOME-2). The study particularly examines the adequacy of the existing Brewer network to detect SO 2 plumes of volcanic origin in comparison to other networks and satellite platforms. The comparison with OMI and 45 GOME-2 SO 2 space-borne retrievals shows statistically significant agreement between the Brewer network data and the collocated satellite overpasses. It is shown that the Brewer instrument is capable of detecting significant columnar SO 2 increases following large volcanic eruptions, when SO 2 levels rise well above the instrumental noise of daily observations, estimated to be of the order of 2 DU. A model exercise from the MACC project shows that the large increases of SO 2 over Europe following the Bárðarbunga eruption in Iceland were not caused by local sources or ship emissions but are clearly linked to the eruption. We propose that by combining Brewer data with that from other networks and satellites, a useful tool aided by trajectory analyses and modeling could be created which can be used to forecast high SO 2 values both at ground level and in air flight corridors following future eruptions

Changes in the epidemiological profile, resulting from increased life expectancy and chronic health conditions, bring the need for comprehensive care, capable of addressing the biopsychosocial needs of individuals, groups and populations. Therefore, in order to improve collaboration and the quality of health care in an interactive way, there is Interprofessional Education, understood as a process of preparing people for collaborative practice, which encompasses six domains of competences to be developed in professionals to promote essential knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. This study aims to present and analyze interprofessional education and its respective domains from the perspective of the document entitled Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative, reflecting on academic training and health practices in the country. This is a theoretical study that individually discusses interprofessional competences and their development for a better quality of care provided in health services. It is concluded that training and education in health should enable a critical reflection on the transformations and actions of professionals in the health context, fostering the consolidation of user-centered care from a biopsychosocial perspective. THE EFFECTS OF LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY ON PROLIFERATION AND DIFFERENTIATION OF MESENCHIMAL STEM CELLS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

    No full text
Utilization of a low-energy light intensity within the visible red and near infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum has been shown to stimulate irradiated cellular activity. This phenomenon has been referred to as photobiomodulation (PBM) or low level laser therapy (LLLT). Many cellular responses have been observed after photobiomodulation, including increase of mitochondrial respiration and ATP production, the synthesis of proteins and cell migration, proliferation and differentiation. Few studies have investigated the use of LLLT on Mesenchimal stem cells (MSCs) in order to promote proliferation and/or differentiation. The aim of this literature review is to highlight the current findings about the effects of PBM on proliferation and differentiation of mesenchimal stem cells. The parameters used to perform LLLT will also be evaluated. The electronic search was conducted with PubMed database for English-language articles published until May 2019. Following 14 MeSH terms and keywords were used in combination and/or separately: Low Level Laser Therapy; Low Level Light Therapy; Low Level Laser Irradiation; Low Level Light Irradiation; LLLT; LLLI; Stem Cells; Bone Marrow; Adipose; Periodontal Ligament; Dental Pulp; Mesenchymal; Cell Proliferaton; Cell Differentiation. The selection of studies was initiated by the review of articles’ titles and the eligible papers were classified as in vivo or in vitro experimental studies which assessed the use of PBM on dental (DMSC), adipose (ADSC) or bone marrow (BMSC) stem cells in order to promote their proliferation and/or differentiation. Articles without a case-control design were excluded. Articles found after first research were 430 and 338 papers were excluded after screening of titles and abstracts. Fifty-nine papers were excluded after full text analysis. From the preliminary list of papers, 33 articles met the search criteria and were included in the present review. All reviewed papers showed positive outcomes both for proliferation’s and differentiation’s rates exept for two. In vivo studies were 7 (21%), while in vitro studies were 26 (79%); 31 papers evaluated proliferation rate and 16 papers (48,5%) evaluated differentiation rate. The most widely used stem cells were BMSC (13 papers, 39,4%). Results shows that most frequently PBM was performed with diode laser (InGaAlP) (13 papers, 39,4%), with visible wavelengths of 660nm (17 papers, 52%) and Fluence values between 0.5 e 5 J/ (24 papers, 73%). Low-level laser therapy has positive and stimulatory effects on the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells. With the appropriate use of LLLT the proliferation and/or differentiation rate of cultured stem cells (MSCs), can be increased, which would be very useful in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine
