    The purpose of this study was to identify teachers’ perceptions of an English academic writing teaching material model based on brain-friendly strategies. The research method used was qualitative. The process of collecting data was interviews and questionnaires. The research findings indicated that the material model of English academic writing was effective and matched teachers' perceptions that it fulfilled the learning needs. This could be seen in the percentage of teachers’ questionnaires. They thought that the teaching material was appropriate for the students’ needs context and the global challenges of their program of study.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi persepsi dosen terhadap model materi ajar menulis akademik bahasa Inggris berbasis brain-friendly strategies. Metode penelitian menggunakan kualitatif. Proses pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara dan kuesioner. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa model materi ajar menulis akademik bahasa Inggris berbasis brain-friendly strategies efektif. Efektifitas tersebut terlihat pada presentase yang cukup baik dari dosen. Menurut para dosen materi ajar yang telah dirancang sesuai dengan konteks pembelajaran menulis akademik bahasa Inggris dikelas dan tantangan global saat ini.     Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahuikompetensi digital pengajar di masa pandemic covid-19terkait dengan penyelenggaraan pendidikan abad-21 yang berkualitas. Apalagi, teknologi informasi dankomunikasi telah dimanfaatkan sejak lama di dunia pendidikan. Namun, tantangan terbesar daripenerapanTIKadalahkompetensidigitalpendidik.Metodepenelitianyangdigunakanadalahpendekatan kualitatif melalui kegiatan survey.Data diambil menggunakan survei melalui penyebarankuesioner dan dokumen. Partisipan yang menjadi objek dari penyebaran kuesioner sebanyak 100pengajar dari salahsatuuniversitas swasta di Jakarta.Data yangterlahterkumpul di analisismenggunakan tahapan yaitureduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan dan triangulasi.Hasilpenelitian menunjukkan bahwatantangan terbesar saat ini bagi pengajar adalah pengelolaan sumberdaya digital, penyelarasan pemanfaatan media sosial dan aplikasi teknologi, pemahaman terhadap TIKtepat guna serta memaksimalkan pengembangan diri. Jadi, para pengajar harus memahami lebih dalamkonsep dari pemanfaatan dan penggunaan TIK dalam pengajaran di masa pandemic covid-19. Hasilpenelitian bisa berimplikasi pada peningkatan pengembangan diri pengajar untuk TIK yang terusberkembangdiduniapendidikandanlembagapendidikanbisamemfasilitasipenyelenggaraanpengembangan kompetensi teknologi pengajar sesuai kebutuhan.Kata Kunci:Digital, Kompetensi, Pengajar, Pandemic Covid-1

    SPEECH ACTS IN DONALD TRUMP’S SPEECH: TRUMP BANS ALL REFUGEES AND CITIZENS OF 7 MAJORITY MUSLIM COUNTRIES ENTERING U.S

    Abstract. People surely know about Donald Trump. He is the elected president of U.S. on November 9th, 2016. Trump is considered a controversial person in every speech and action, it was attracting the writer to analyze his speech entitled Trump Bans All Refugees and Citizens of 7 Majority Muslim Countries Entering U.S., and the speech will be discussed linguistically by the writer. In analyzing Trump’s speech, the writer will relate it to the speech acts belong to J. L. Austin, those are: locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary. The analysis that will be elaborated by the writer is about Austin’s types of speech acts contained in Donald Trump’s speech, and then the most and the least types used in Donald Trump’s speech, and also determining does perlocutionary is always exist in every Trump’s utterance. All analyzes will be elaborated using descriptive qualitative method. In this case, the writer found 10 utterances related to Donald Trump’s speech. In those utterances, there include 10 data of locutionary forces, 10 data of illocutionary forces, but only 2 data that show perlocutionary forces, because not all utterances conduct perlocutionary. Thus, every utterance can be linguistically analyzed, in order to see whether every speech always conduct perlocutionary forces or not.Keywords: Donald Trump, linguistics, speech, speech acts

    MEDIA SOSIAL DAN PEMBELAJARAN: STUDI EFEKTIVITAS PENGGUNAAN FACEBOOK DALAM PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA INGGRIS

    Abstrak Penelitian ini adalah kajian tentang efektivitas penggunaan media sosial, yaitu facebook, untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis deskriptif berbahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Data dikumpulkan dari observasi, dokumentasi, dan tes. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa: 1) proses pembelajaran menulis deskriptif bahasa Inggris menggunakan facebook lebih bervariasi dan menyenangkan, dan 2) ada peningkatan kemampuan menulis deskriptif bahasa Inggris yang ditandai dari peningkatan hasil tes. Hal tersebut terlihat pada hasil nilai rata-rata pre-test sebesar 66.25, dan hasil rata-rata post-test sebesar 80.15. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa facebook dapat dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Abstract This research is a study of the effectiveness of using social media, namely Facebook, to improve students' ability to write descriptive English. This research is a classroom action research. The data are taken from observation, documentation, and tests. The results of data analysis show that: 1) the process of learning descriptive English using Facebook is more varied and enjoyable, and 2) there is an increase in students’ ability to write descriptive English which is marked by an increase in test results. This can be seen from the average of the pre-test and pos-test score, which is 66.25 and 80.15 respectively. Thus it can be concluded that Facebook can be used to improve learning outcomes in learning English. &nbsp

    SOCIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF SLANG USED BY THE CHARACTERS IN STEP UP 2 THE STREETS MOVIE

    The objective of this research is to know the function of  the usage of slang, especially slang used by the characters of Step Up 2 The Streets movie. The method of this research used descriptive qualitative method, the data were collected through observation of the movie, analysis of slang in the dialogue, and analysis sociological properties of slang based on the dialogues. Defining the sociological properties of slang and analyzing the most frequent of properties used are taken from the theory of Mattiello. Analyzing the purposes of using slang in a community is taken from the theory of  Victor and Dalzel. The result of this research are: (1) From 31 sociological properties are known, only 14 properties used in the movie, following: ‘Color’, ‘Efficiency’, ‘Group-Restriction’, ‘Informality’, ‘Subject-Restriction’, ‘Orality’,  ‘Musicality’,  ‘Aggressiveness’, ‘Unconventionality’, ‘Offenciveness’  ‘Desire to Impress’, ’Hybridism’, ‘Localism’, ‘Secrecy’, (2) The most frequent of sociological properties is ‘colour’, (3) The purposes of using slang are: to enrich the language, to induce friendliness or intimacy, to prove that someone did not belong to a certain society, and to be secret.  Â

    The purpose of this research was to know the social relationships through Sorokin's theory. This research was done through a film titled Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them which was released in 2016. The data were taken from the utterances of the characters’ dialogue through documentation, the process of watching, and post watching the film. The method of research used a qualitative descriptive method. The results of the study indicated that: (1.) the types of social relationships are social interaction phenomena and non-social interaction phenomena, (2.) From the seven data about a social relationship, three data are about social interaction phenomena:  by human in friendship, by human in ethnicity, and social interaction phenomenon in helping the economy, (3.) using Tsapeli's theory, the sub-chapters of the causes and effects are also successfully identified
