    Literature is a mirror of the life of man. Due to the lack of time to read the classics in accordance with the change of time, many of the minor literature genres have been acquired. On that basis, famous kinds of minor literature such as Pillai Thamizh, Kovai, Bharani, Ula, Thoothu, etc., are featured. From that point of view, the researcher has chosen Varadhar Nenjuvidu Thoothu as his title in the Thoothu literature. This study is based on data on the period at which the minor literature originated, the interpretation of the word ‘Chitrilakiyam’, the significance of the word Chitrilakiyam, especially the semantics of the thoothu, the types of thoothu, the specialties of the Thoothu literature, and the moral principles in the Thoothu literature. This study is based on data on the principles of morality, the impermanence of worldly life, the degradation of human birth, the way to attain the benefit of birth, the destruction of sensuality, the dangers of human birth, the way in which the world can rise, the use of dasaavatharam, etc

    Satellite oceanic remote sensing is now playing a very important role in India for fishery forecasting, research and management by providing synoptic oceanic measurements. These can be used for evaluating environmental effects, which ultimately affects the abundance and availability of fish populations. Indian seas, which have a coastline of 8118 km, an EEZ area of 2.02 million sq. km and a shelf area of 0.53 million sq. km (Anon, 2002), have multi species composition. It is a well known fact that changes in ocean conditions greatly influence the natural fluctuations of fish stocks. Hence the information on variations in ocean conditions is necessary to understand the influence they cause on fish stocks and their distribution. This knowledge will immensely help in formulating the best fishery management strategies and developing efficient harvesting methods for fishery resources

    Tensile strength properties of polyethylene netting twines under exposure to out-door and artificial UV radiation

    Photodegradation of three types of polyethylene twines namely, polyethylene fibrillated tape twine, polyethylene flat tape twine and polyethylene monofilament twines were studied by exposing them to sunlight and artificial UV radiation. The percentage residual strength varied in the samples, the monofilament with the highest residual strength followed by fibrillated tape twine and flat tape twine.     Mobilization of Self Help Groups, setting up of Mahila Rural Cooperative banks, Women cell and collaboration and networking with NGOs etc are to be worked out by using the strategy developed in the case studies as a practical manual. Promoting “men and women partnership firms” instead of exclusively women-oriented enterprises is another practical strategy. It is seen that husband-wife enterprises with one or two helpers in fish processing/marketing in fishery related activities and other fishery related activity yields better prospects. Integration of the gender perspective in aquaculture research and technology development is an essential requisite because the gender mainstreaming approach advances gender equality and equity in the society. Similarly it is quite necessary for integrating gender perspective in aquaculture extension also because women are the important stakeholders of our aquaculture development process and our Extension system hardly targets the women folk for technological empowerment

    Development of an efficient trap for lobster fishing

    A modified trap was developed for fishing spiny lobsters. Experimental fishing was conducted using this trap along with traditional trap (as control) to assess the comparative efficiency. Design details and comparative efficiency of the modified trap is reported in this paper. From the analysis of variance, the difference in average catches between the modified trap and the control is found to be highly significant establishing the high efficiency of new trap

    Vegetatively propagated crops like Jasminum auriculatum have a constraint in genetic variation due to a narrow genetic base that restricts the insights in any crop breeding programme. Mutation breeding is a potential tool that directs a way to create desirable variation effectively in vegetatively propagated crops. The optimum dose of mutagen is the one which produces the maximum frequency of mutation in turn the variation, with minimum killing. The aim of the present paper unveils the Lethal Dose (LD50) and the growth reduction dose (GR50) for both Gamma irradiation (GI) and Ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) for the ecotype ‘Muthu Mullai’ of Jasminum auriculatum. These parameters of GR and EMS treated cuttings were analysed by considering the GR50 values of the mortality rate (57%, 48%), survival percentage (12.479Gy, 13.268mM), shoot length (18.59Gy, 18.28mM), root length (20.39Gy, 18.17mM), number of leaves (22.29Gy, 17.47mM), number of sprouts (22.97Gy, 16.17mM), vigour index (10.43Gy, 11.05mM), leaf length (21.61Gy, 19.90mM) and leaf width (19.2Gy, 16.17mM). The LD50 value was 12.479 Gy for GI and 13.268 mM for EMS treatment. The GR50 for different growth parameters ranged from 14.93 to 22.9 Gy for GI and 1.05 to 19.9 mM for EMS treatment. The mutagenic efficiency and effectiveness were 214.96 and 89.36 for GI and 48.66 and 33.77 for EMS treatment, respectively. These doses can be used for generating considerable variation, which can be put to use in future crop improvement programmes for Jasmine
