Boy meets goal, boy loses goal, boy gets goal : the nature of feedback between goal-based simulation and understanding systems

We are designing a goal-based planning and simulation system called REACTOR for a multiple-actor world in which partially formulated plans are monitored during execution, providing feedback to the planner. Plan failures that occur are diagnosed by a combination of top-down (plan-synthesis) and bottom-up (plan-understanding) techniques, allowing an informed choice of response to the error. By maintaining separate belief spaces for each actor, we simulate planners who themselves simulate the planning and plan-understanding of other actors

Role of atrial receptors in the control of sodium excretion

Responses of an innervated and a contralateral chronically denervated kidney to mild positive pressure breathing are compared for saline volume expansions in chloralose anesthetized dogs. It is shown that mild pressure breathing significantly reduces sodium excretion, urine flow, free water clearance, and PAH clearance. After 20 minutes of positive pressure breathing, both kidney responses are identical suggesting the release of natriuretic hormone which reduces renal function in addition to the demonstrated change in renal nerve activity. Increase of the left atrial pressure through balloon obstruction of the mitral orifice increases urine flow, sodium excretion and PAH clearance; inflation of the balloon and positive pressure breathing again depresses renal function. Preliminary evidence indicates that receptors in the right atrium are more severely affected by pressure breathing than those in the left atrium

Herein, we present an erythrodermic patient with repeated biopsies demonstrating a spongiotic process who was found to have circulating atypical T-cells concerning for an underlying erythrodermic T-cell leukemia, most closely related to Sézary syndrome

MI-SEED Investment Funds and Account Growth: Implications for Achieving Higher Rates of Return in CDA Programs

In 2004, the Michigan Saving for Education, Entrepreneurship and Down Payment initiative (MI-SEED) recruited 430 families through 14 Head Start centers, enrolling 497 children in Child Development Accounts (CDAs). Designed to begin to address wealth disparities between low- and high-income families, the MI-SEED CDA used the state 529 college savings plan as the investment instrument. This brief presents results on MI-SEED savings and withdrawals through 2019. The results suggest that investment strategy greatly influences account growth, and the authors offer recommendations for ensuring acceptable growth in CDAs
