The assignment integrates within the design process physical and software tools. The study proposes that core environmental guidelines are generative in the design process and environmental tools function best as assessment, validation and fine-tuning of that process

    This paper expands on a case study of a Ralph Erskine University building located in Cambridge, UK. It explores the relationship between daylight, visual perception and window design. The scope of this paper is to serve as a reminder that window design has an important influence in the quality and use of architectural space. The paper suggests that through an articulated use of window types the designer has the opportunity to extend the control on the function and perception of a space. The conclusion shows examples of this articulation and proposes an integration of the effects of window design at the onset of the design process

    Photovoltaic design integration at Battery Park City, New York

    This paper is a study of the photovoltaic (PV) systems in the buildings’ design of the Battery Park City (BPC) residential development, in New York. The BPC development is the first in the US to mandate, through the 2000 Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) guidelines, the use of PV as renewable energy generation system in its individual buildings. The scope of this study is to show how PV is integrated in the BPC buildings’ design process, and what can be learned for future PV applications. The study draws directly from the design decision making sources, investigating on the concerns and suggestions of the BPC architects, PV installers and real estate developers. It attempts to contrast a theoretical approach that sees PV as a technology to domesticate in architecture and bring, through grounded research, PV industry closer to the architectural design process. The findings of the study suggest that while stringent environmental mandates help, in the short term, to kick-start the use of PV systems in buildings, it is the recognition of the PV’s primary role as energy provider, its assimilation in the building industry, and its use in a less confining building program that allows for its evolution in architecture

    Berbagai metode perbaikan tanah dewasa ini telah banyak dikembangkan, salah satunya dengan perkuatan tanah sebagai alternative pemecahan masalah terhadap penurunan dan daya dukung tanah yang rendah, namun banyak yang menggunkan bahan dari geosintetik yang dari segi biaya tentu lebih tinggi. Salah satu alternatif yang diberikan pada pemodelan ini yaitu grid bambu dan anyaman bambu sebagai pengganti geosintetik untuk bahan perkuatan pondasi dangkal pada tanah lempung. Tujuan dari pemodelan ini untuk mengetahui nilai daya dukung tanah dan BCR dengan perkuatan grid bambu dan anyaman bambu. Pemodelan pondasi dangkal dilakukan dengan menggunakan bantuan program Plaxis versi 8.2. Parameter yang diteliti adalah pengaruh variasi jarak dan jumlah lapis perkuatan dengan menggunakan lebar perkuatan yang sama terhadap nilai daya dukung tanah dengan melihat dari grafik hubungan penurunan dan beban hasil output program Plaxis. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa penambahan jumlah 3 lapis perkuatan pada variasi jarak perkuatan dari dasar pondasi 0,25 B memberikan daya dukung tanah tertinggi yaitu sebesar 409,537 kPa. Dari pemodelan ini dapat diketahui bahwa semakin dekat jarak perkuatan dari dasar pondasi maka daya dukung tanah juga akan semakin besar

    The cost of electrical bill in most of hospital in this big cities indicates getting high. This phenomenal can be anticipated through auditing. By doing this audit will be able to determine the cost factor and the related issue. This paper purposes audit energy to a hospital to evaluate the potential energy saving to reduce wastes of energy for unnecessary things. In this analysis will be obtained the hospital operational cost in the efficient way. The raw data is findout by observation and direct measurement in the respective hospital. The measurement of power quality in the electricity panel main by using the instrumention of power quality analyzer (PQA). The output of this instrumen has managed to figure out the following parameters i.e. output of voltage (V) , the current (ampere) , power factor (cosphi) , active power (W) , power reactive (VAR) and power imaginery (VA). Base on the measuremant result, the power quality status the hospital is obtained. In the overall, the following results are describing i.e. energy consumtion intensity (ECI) is 6,1 kWh/m2/month for non ac room and considered as inefficient criteria and 12,89 kWh/m2/month for ac room considered as efficient criteria .The measurement also to include the lighting component to get the intensity of light to compare the condition a standard value.     Salah satu bahan campuran beton normal yaitu pasir juga mempunyai dampak buruk dalam kerusakan alam. Electrical Arc Frunance Slag atau limbah dari pembakaran atau peleburan baja yang merupakan limbah dari hasil proses pembakaran dari pabrik baja dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai substitusi pasir pada beton.Beton yang lemah terhadap tarik dapat ditingkatkan kekuatannya yaitu dengan menambahkan serat sebagai tambahan bahan campuran untuk beton. Bahan serat yang digunakan pada beton dapat berupa serat kawat, serat plastik (polypropylene), atau serat alami. Perkembangan beton berserat ,sering dilakukan penelitian penggunaan serat alami untuk beton,yang dinilai lebih ekonomis dan ramah lingkungan. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui pengaruh EAFS dan serat rami pada campuran beton terhadap sifat mekanis beton. Pada penelitian ini akan melakukan experimental dengan menggunakan persentase EAFS 30% dan variasi serat rami 0%,0,5%0,75%,1% untuk kuat tekan , tarik dan lentur pada beton. Hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa dengan memanfaatkan Electrick Arc Furnace Slag (30%) dan serat rami pada campuran beton normal mampu memperbaiki kuat tarik belah dan kuat lentur pada beton penggunaan serat rami optimal yang dapat ditambahkan pada campuran beton ialah sebesar 0,5% dapat meningkatkan kuat tarik sebesar 30,84%.One material that is a mixture of concrete, namely sand, also has a negative impact on environmental damage. Electrical Arc Frunance Slag or a waste from steel combustion or melting which is a waste from the results of the combustion process of a steel plant can be used as a substitute for sand in concrete. Weak concrete against the drag can be strengthen by adding fiber as a mixture of concrete. Fiber materials used in concrete can be wire fibers, plastic fibers (polypropylene), or natural fibers. Many researches have been done for the development of fibrous concrete, which often carried out by using natural fibers for concrete, is more economical and environmentally friendly. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of EAFS and hemp fiber on concrete mixtures in terms of the mechanical properties of concrete. In this research, the experiment are done by using 30% percentage of EAFS and the variation of hemp fiber start from 0%, 0.5% 0.75%, 1% for compressive strength, tensile strength and bending. The results of the research that have been carried out can be concluded that by utilizing Electrick Arc Furnace Slag (30%) and hemp fiber in normal concrete mixtures can improve split tensile strength and flexural strength in concrete using optimal hemp fiber which can be added to the concrete mixture is 0, 5% can increase the tensile strength by 30.84

    Tradition Manjopuik Limau (picked limes) is a tradition-laden society norms and values in each set of the procession. Messages in a procession Manjopuik Limau (picked limes) that are transmitted through symbols, objects, musical instruments all have meaning. In Kenegerian Lubuk Jambi, Manjopuik Limau (picked limes) has always been an annual event for the community, that is exactly on the eve of Idul Fitri. The existence of a tradition Manjopuik Limau as local wisdom raises a variety of views and meanings of society against the tradition. Daripenelitian destination is to know the process of externalization, objectification, and internalization of society Kenegerian Lubuk Jambi.This study uses qualitative research methods with the presentation of descriptive analysis. The informants are perpetrators of tradition, community, traditional leaders, government and traditional leaders as a supporter informant, the informant election tradition by choosing actors who have participated in Limau Manjopuik more than three times and through other considerations. Informants selected by purposive sampling. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. technical validity of the data used in this study is an extension of participation and triangulation. The results obtained suggests that the process of externalization of the government which supports the tradition Manjopuik Limau this tradition by making the national agenda. Externalization process of society that they assume Manjopuik Limau important to continue to be preserved as a valuable asset. Community considers this tradition as upara as well as an entertainment center. The process of objectification of society explains that the tradition Manjopuik Lemons has experienced a shift, but even so the community. There is an organization that continues to support the Nature Batobo the continuity of tradition Manjopuik Limau to socialize about how the importance of maintaining the existing potential of cultural assets. Kenegerian Lubuk Jambi community also participated in the success of every implementation Manjopuik Limau tradition by providing assistance in the form of material and equipment required and lend.
