Density scaling in viscous liquids: From relaxation times to four-point susceptibilities
We present numerical calculations of a four-point dynamic susceptibility,
chi_4(t), for the Kob-Andersen Lennard-Jones mixture as a function of
temperature T and density rho. Over a relevant range of T and rho, the full
t-dependence of chi_4(t) and thus the maximum in chi_4(t), which is
proportional to the dynamic correlation volume, are invariant for state points
for which the scaling variable rho^gamma/T is constant. The value of the
material constant gamma is the same as that which superposes the relaxation
time, tau, of the system versus rho^gamma/T. Thus, the dynamic correlation
volume is directly related to tau for any thermodynamic condition in the regime
where density scaling holds. Finally, we examine the conditions under which the
density scaling properties are related to the existence of strong correlations
between pressure and energy fluctuations.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, updated reference

Is executive impairment associated with schizophrenic syndromes? A meta-analysis
Original article can be found at: http://journals.cambridge.org/ Copyright Cambridge University Press. DOI: 10.1017/S0033291708003887A key neuropsychological proposal in schizophrenia is that negative and disorganization symptoms are associated with different patterns of impairment on executive tasks. Reporting correlations between positive, negative or disorganization symptoms and any type of executive test were meta-analysed. The influence of moderating factors was also examined, including age, treatment and stage of illness and whether symptoms were relapsing or persistent. The magnitudes of the correlations were compared with those for general intellectual impairment. Pooled correlations between executive impairment and both negative symptoms and disorganization were significant in the small-to-moderate range. That for positive symptoms (‘reality distortion’), however, was close to zero. The pattern of correlations among different executive tests differed significantly for negative symptoms and disorganization. Patients with stable clinical pictures showed significantly higher correlations with executive impairment than those with relapsing and remitting illnesses. Both negative symptoms and disorganization also correlated significantly with general intellectual function as indexed by current IQ. Meta-analysis supports the view that negative symptoms and disorganization are associated with partially dissociable patterns of executive impairment. However, co-existent general intellectual impairment has been an important confounding factor in the studies to date.Peer reviewe
The Sarah Gudger Interview: An Analysis
During the Great Depression, a New Deal project intended to create jobs was the Federal Writer\u27s Project. One aspect of this project, the Slave Narrative Project, involved the interviews of over 2,000 former slaves and culminated in a federal collection of information on the lives of enslaved people. This paper focuses on the interview of Sarah Gudger, a 121 year-old former slave from North Carolina. It includes an overview of the content included and excluded from the interview in addition to an analysis of the interview including factors that may have positively or negatively impacted the interview\u27s content, as well as its continued value and usefulness to historians and scholars
Inferential Aspects of the Cloze Task
The central assumption underlying the cloze procedure is that context can be used inferentially to predict deleted words (or other graphic units). The importance of this assumption suggests that an adequate understanding of the cloze task is impossible without an analytical knowledge of the role inference must play. The present discussion embodies a stepwise analysis of this role, from the point at which the context is read to the point at which the reader is able to distinguish acceptable responses

Mobile travel services: A three-country study into the impact of local circumstances
In this paper we explore the difference in acceptance patterns of mobile services that are related to travelling in three countries: Finland, The Netherlands and New Zealand. The objective of this paper is to understand differences in the use of Mobile Travel Services in three countries that differ with regard to national travel patterns. This paper also contributes to the discussion of the relevance of the Technology Acceptance Model for mobile applications by focusing on the importance of context characteristics, such as the degree of mobility of the user, the social situation people are in, and their need for social interaction. Based on surveys in the three countries as executed in 2009, we use structural equation modelling to find differences in patterns. The paper concludes that context factors have an impact on the relation between the core concepts as used in TAM and DOI approach, and that t here is a clear need for closer research in the moderating effect of physical (e.g. mobile and fixed context) and social context, as well as the need for social interaction. Moreover it is clear that country specific characteristics play a role in the acceptance of mobile travel services. As we pointed out in many of our research projects before the acceptance and use of mobile services requires deep understanding from individual, context and technology related characteristics and their mutual interactions
