    Language effects on bargaining

Language is critical to coordination in groups. Though, how language affects coordination in groups is not well understood. We prime distributive and integrative language in a bargaining experiment to better understand the links between group outcomes and communication. We accomplish this by priming interests or positions language in randomized groups. We find that priming positions as opposed to interests language leads to agreements where controllers, subjects with unilateral authority over the group outcome, receive a larger share of the benefits but where the total benefits to the group are unaffected. In contrast to common justifications for the use of integrative language in bargaining, our experimental approach revealed no significant differences between priming interests and positions language in regards to increasing joint outcomes for the groups. Across treatments, we find subjects that use gain frames and make reference to visuals aids during bargaining experience larger gains for the group, while loss frames and pro-self language experience larger gains for the individual through side payments. This finding suggests a bargainer’s dilemma: whether to employ language that claims a larger share of group’s assets or employ language to increase joint gains

Expression of PPARδ in multistage carcinogenesis of the colorectum: implications of malignant cancer morphology

Whether peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) δ is a good target for the chemoprevention and/or treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) remains controversial. Our goal was to examine PPARδ expression in multistage carcinogenesis of the colorectum and to assess the relevance of PPARδ in CRC. Immunohistochemical analysis indicated that PPARδ expression increased from normal mucosa to adenomatous polyps to CRC. In cancer tissues, the PPARδ protein was accumulated only in those cancer cells with highly malignant morphology, as represented by a large-sized nucleus, round-shaped nucleus, and presence of clear nucleoli. Interestingly, the cancer tissue often contained both PPARδ-positive and -negative areas, each retaining their respective specific morphological features. Moreover, this pattern persisted even when PPARδ-positive and -negative cells were aligned next to each other within a single cancer nest or gland and was present in the majority of CRC cases. Immunohistochemistry for Ki-67 proliferation marker showed no significant correlation between Ki-67 and PPARδ in CRC samples. Based on Western blot analysis and quantitative RT–PCR, high PPARδ protein expression correlated with high PPARδ mRNA levels. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor δ may have a supporting role in tumorigenesis, and the close association between PPARδ expression and malignant morphology of CRC cells suggests a pivotal role in cancer tissue

Preferences Surrounding Grocery Shopping Practices Within the University of Saskatchewan Community

This research was done as a part of a first year nutrition course, NUTR230, and was directed towards the University of Saskatchewan community. Data was gathered in the format of a survey, which was posted to the platform Survey Monkey. Our goal is to better understand the purchasing habits and preferences of students in relation to grocery shopping. To further our understanding, we wish to evaluate the choices made by students when purchasing groceries. These choices include the nutritional aspects of food, availability, delivery options, distance, pricing, sources, safety, etc. In addition, our group will explore what barriers play a role in the purchasing choices made by students. We also plan to investigate whether shopping preferences have changed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic
