Stephen Page, 'Develoingn Heritage Tourism in Ireland in the 1990s', Tourism Recreation Research, Vol. 19 (2): 79-89, January 1994, doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/02508281.1994.11014713.Heritage tourism has developed as an international phenomenon, based on the historical and cultural resources of tourism destinations. This paper considers the role of heritage tourism as a product being developed by Ireland's tourism industry at a time when government policy is committed to the expansion of tourist arrivals to 5 million by the mid-1990s. The role of the National Tourism Organisation-Bord Filte-is critically examined in relation to its strategy to provide a framework for the development of heritage tourism in Ireland, and the implications for tourism development are discussed. ยฉ 1994 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.Peer reviewe
