A Game Approach to Teach Environmentally Benign Manufacturing in the Supply Chain
Multidisciplinary models of education are needed to prepare students for their role in a global work environment. Combined with this need is the reality of the new Millennial Generation entering the educational system with a different approach to learning. This paper introduces an interactive, educational engineering game designed to appeal to the Millennial Generation’s learning preferences. Shortfall is a prototype board game with a team approach and a trial and error methodology to introduce students to environmentally benign manufacturing in the supply chain using the automobile industry as a model. After playing the game, quantitative analysis showed that on average, students gained new knowledge and a changed perception of their confidence in their answers. Qualitative analysis of data demonstrated that students felt the game also helped them with the teamwork/communication aspects of supply chain. Future plans involve converting the game to a computer format to streamline its effectiveness for multi-institutional participation
Beam Tests of Ionization Chambers for the NuMI Neutrino Beam
We have conducted tests at the Fermilab Booster of ionization chambers to be
used as monitors of the NuMI neutrino beamline. The chambers were exposed to
proton fluxes of up to 10 particles/cm/1.56s. We studied space
charge effects which can reduce signal collection from the chambers at large

New ADS Functionality for the Curator
In this paper we provide an update concerning the operations of the NASA
Astrophysics Data System (ADS), its services and user interface, and the
content currently indexed in its database. As the primary information system
used by researchers in Astronomy, the ADS aims to provide a comprehensive index
of all scholarly resources appearing in the literature. With the current effort
in our community to support data and software citations, we discuss what steps
the ADS is taking to provide the needed infrastructure in collaboration with
publishers and data providers. A new API provides access to the ADS search
interface, metrics, and libraries allowing users to programmatically automate
discovery and curation tasks. The new ADS interface supports a greater
integration of content and services with a variety of partners, including ORCID
claiming, indexing of SIMBAD objects, and article graphics from a variety of
publishers. Finally, we highlight how librarians can facilitate the ingest of

22q11.2 deletion syndrome
22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS) is the most common chromosomal microdeletion disorder, estimated to result mainly from de novo non-homologous meiotic recombination events occurring in approximately 1 in every 1,000 fetuses. The first description in the English language of the constellation of findings now known to be due to this chromosomal difference was made in the 1960s in children with DiGeorge syndrome, who presented with the clinical triad of immunodeficiency, hypoparathyroidism and congenital heart disease. The syndrome is now known to have a heterogeneous presentation that includes multiple additional congenital anomalies and later-onset conditions, such as palatal, gastrointestinal and renal abnormalities, autoimmune disease, variable cognitive delays, behavioural phenotypes and psychiatric illness - all far extending the original description of DiGeorge syndrome. Management requires a multidisciplinary approach involving paediatrics, general medicine, surgery, psychiatry, psychology, interventional therapies (physical, occupational, speech, language and behavioural) and genetic counselling. Although common, lack of recognition of the condition and/or lack of familiarity with genetic testing methods, together with the wide variability of clinical presentation, delays diagnosis. Early diagnosis, preferably prenatally or neonatally, could improve outcomes, thus stressing the importance of universal screening. Equally important, 22q11.2DS has become a model for understanding rare and frequent congenital anomalies, medical conditions, psychiatric and developmental disorders, and may provide a platform to better understand these disorders while affording opportunities for translational strategies across the lifespan for both patients with 22q11.2DS and those with these associated features in the general population
