Threshold Photo/Electro Pion Production - Working Group Summary

We summarize the pertinent experimental and theoretical developments in the field of pion photo- and electroproduction in the threshold region. We discuss which experiments and which calculations should be done/performed in the future.Comment: plain TeX (macro included), 6pp, summary talk presented at the workshop on "Chiral Dynamics: Theory and Experiments", MIT, July 25-29, 199

An electromagnetic shashlik calorimeter with longitudinal segmentation

    Get PDF
A novel technique for longitudinal segmentation of shashlik calorimeters has been tested in the CERN West Area beam facility. A 25 tower very fine samplings e.m. calorimeter has been built with vacuum photodiodes inserted in the first 8 radiation lengths to sample the initial development of the shower. Results concerning energy resolution, impact point reconstruction and electron/pion separation are reported.Comment: 13 pages, 12 figure

Rethinking value in health innovation: from mystifications towards prescriptions

    Get PDF
Debates over value in health innovation in the U.S. and Europe have become increasingly dominated by “value-based pricing”. We examine this prevailing narrative and its weaknesses and then present an alternative framework for rethinking value in health. Drawing on scholarship from the political economy of innovation, we argue that value in health must be considered in terms of both value creation as a collective process amongst public and private actors, as well as value extraction that occurs due to financialization. In building this alternative framework, we pose three questions that present areas for further research and public policy change

Spatial and Wavenumber Resolution of Doppler Reflectometry

Doppler reflectometry spatial and wavenumber resolution is analyzed within the framework of the linear Born approximation in slab plasma model. Explicit expression for its signal backscattering spectrum is obtained in terms of wavenumber and frequency spectra of turbulence which is assumed to be radially statistically inhomogeneous. Scattering efficiency for both back and forward scattering (in radial direction) is introduced and shown to be inverse proportional to the square of radial wavenumber of the probing wave at the fluctuation location thus making the spatial resolution of diagnostics sensitive to density profile. It is shown that in case of forward scattering additional localization can be provided by the antenna diagram. It is demonstrated that in case of backscattering the spatial resolution can be better if the turbulence spectrum at high radial wavenumbers is suppressed. The improvement of Doppler reflectometry data localization by probing beam focusing onto the cut-off is proposed and described. The possibility of Doppler reflectometry data interpretation based on the obtained expressions is shown.Comment: http://stacks.iop.org/0741-3335/46/114
