    Autoencoder-based cleaning in probabilistic databases

    Get PDF
In the field of data integration, data quality problems are often encountered when extracting, combining, and merging data. The probabilistic data integration approach represents information about such problems as uncertainties in a probabilistic database. In this paper, we propose a data-cleaning autoencoder capable of near-automatic data quality improvement. It learns the structure and dependencies in the data to identify and correct doubtful values. A theoretical framework is provided, and experiments show that it can remove significant amounts of noise from categorical and numeric probabilistic data. Our method does not require clean data. We do, however, show that manually cleaning a small fraction of the data significantly improves performance.Comment: Submitted to ACM Journal of Data and Information Quality, Special Issue on Deep Learning for Data Qualit

Breakdown of Quasilocality in Long-Range Quantum Lattice Models

    Get PDF
We study the nonequilibrium dynamics of correlations in quantum lattice models in the presence of long-range interactions decaying asymptotically as a power law. For exponents larger than the lattice dimensionality, a Lieb-Robinson- type bound effectively restricts the spreading of correlations to a causal region, but allows supersonic propagation. We show that this decay is not only sufficient but also necessary. Using tools of quantum metrology, for any exponents smaller than the lattice dimension, we construct Hamiltonians giving rise to quantum channels with capacities not restricted to a causal region. An analytical analysis of long-range Ising models illustrates the disappearance of the causal region and the creation of correlations becoming distance independent. Numerical results obtained using matrix product state methods for the XXZ spin chain reveal the presence of a sound cone for large exponents and supersonic propagation for small ones. In all models we analyzed, the fast spreading of correlations follows a power law, but not the exponential increase of the long-range Lieb-Robinson bound

Local Optical Spectroscopy in Quantum Confined Systems: A Theoretical Description

    Get PDF
A theoretical description of local absorption is proposed in order to investigate spectral variations on a length scale comparable with the extension of the relevant quantum states. A general formulation is derived within the density-matrix formalism including Coulomb correlation, and applied to the prototypical case of coupled quantum wires. The results show that excitonic effects may have a crucial impact on the local absorption with implications for the spatial resolution and the interpretation of near-field optical spectra.Comment: To appear in Phys. We describe the fundamental features of an interferometer for guided matter waves based on Y-beam splitters and show that, in a quasi two-dimensional regime, such a device exhibits high contrast fringes even in a multi mode regime and fed from a thermal source.Comment: Final version (accepted to PRL

Recent Low x and Diffractive Collider Data

Selected recent data from collider experiments pertaining to the understanding of QCD at low Bjorken-x are reviewed. The status of QCD and Regge factorisation in hard diffractive interactions is discussed in terms of data from HERA and the Tevatron. The possibility of anomalous behaviour in the γγ\gamma \gamma total cross section is confronted with the most recent measurements from LEP. Data from all three colliders that are sensitive to possible BFKL effects are presented and different interpretations are discussed.Comment: 9 pages, introductory talk from the 1999 Durham Phenomenology Workshop on Collider Physic
