    New description of four-body breakup reaction

    We present a novel method of smoothing discrete breakup cross sections calculated by the method of continuum-discretized coupled-channels. The method based on the complex scaling method is tested with success for 58^{58}Ni(dd, pnpn) reaction at 80 MeV as an example of a three-body breakup reaction, and applied to 12^{12}C(6^6He, nn4nn^4He) reaction at 229.8 MeV as a typical example of a four-body breakup reaction. The new method does not need to derive continuum states of the projectile in order to evaluate the breakup cross section as a smooth factor of the excitation energy of the projectile. Fast convergence of the breakup cross section with respect to extending the modelspace is confirmed. For the 6^6He breakup cross section, the resonant component is separated from the non-resonant one.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

    High Metallicity of the X-Ray Gas up to the Virial Radius of a Binary Cluster of Galaxies: Evidence of Galactic Superwinds at High-Redshift

    We present an analysis of a Suzaku observation of the link region between the galaxy clusters A399 and A401. We obtained the metallicity of the intracluster medium (ICM) up to the cluster virial radii for the first time. We determine the metallicity where the virial radii of the two clusters cross each other (~2 Mpc away from their centers) and found that it is comparable to that in their inner regions (~0.2 Zsun). It is unlikely that the uniformity of metallicity up to the virial radii is due to mixing caused by a cluster collision. Since the ram-pressure is too small to strip the interstellar medium of galaxies around the virial radius of a cluster, the fairly high metallicity that we found there indicates that the metals in the ICM are not transported from member galaxies by ram-pressure stripping. Instead, the uniformity suggests that the proto-cluster region was extensively polluted with metals by extremely powerful outflows (superwinds) from galaxies before the clusters formed. We also searched for the oxygen emission from the warm--hot intergalactic medium in that region and obtained a strict upper limit of the hydrogen density (nH<4.1x10^-5 cm^-3).Comment: Typo corrected.     Ca II K Spectral Study of an Emerging Flux Region using Domeless Solar Telescope in Hida Observatory

    A cooperative observation with Hida observatory and Hinode satellite was performed on an emerging flux region. The successive Ca II K spectro-heliograms of the emerging flux region were taken by the Domeless Solar Telescope of Hida observatory. Hinode observed the emerging flux region with Ca II H and Fe I Stokes IQUV filtergrams. In this study, detailed dynamics and temporal evolution of the magnetic flux emergence was studied observationally. The event was first detected in the photospheric magnetic field signals. 3 minutes later, the horizontal expansion of the dark area was detected. And then, 7 minutes later than the horizontal expansion, the emerging loops were detected with the maximal rise speed of 2.1 km/s at chromospheric heights. The observed dynamics of emerging magnetic flux from the photosphere to the upper chromosphere is well consistent with the results of previous simulation works. The gradual rising phase of flux tubes with a weak magnetic strength was confirmed by our observation.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

    Magnetic shielding properties of GdBCO bulks with different crystal orientation

    AbstractHigh-temperature bulk superconductors have significant potential for superconductivity applications. For this paper, the magnetic shielding properties of GdBCO bulk with different crystal orientations were investigated at different temperatures for the purpose of determining its application as field concentrators. Four discs with a diameter of 20mm and thickness of 5mm were cut from the GdBCO single domain. In two discs, the c-axis of crystal was parallel to the disc radius, and, in the others, the c-axis was perpendicular to it. The magnetic shielding effects in a couple of bulks with a gap of 2mm were measured in background fields up to 11 T. The magnetic fields were measured at the center and edge points between the two bulks at LN2, LHe, and temperatures controlled with a cryocooler. In LHe, the discs whose c-axes were parallel to the external magnetic fields maintained a zero field up to 11 T. Even in LN2, the field was shielded to 1 T. The results confirmed the strong magnetic shield effects of GdBCO bulk and can be used for the design of a field concentrator
