Cuntz-Pimsner C*-algebras associated with subshifts
By using C*-correspondences and Cuntz-Pimsner algebras, we associate to every
subshift (also called a shift space) a C*-algebra , which is a
generalization of the Cuntz-Krieger algebras. We show that is the
universal C*-algebra generated by partial isometries satisfying relations given

Sunlight supply and gas exchange systems in microalgal bioreactor
The bioreactor with sunlight supply system and gas exchange systems presented has proved feasible in ground tests and shows much promise for space use as a closed ecological life support system device. The chief conclusions concerning the specification of total system needed for a life support system for a man in a space station are the following: (1) Sunlight supply system - compactness and low electrical consumption; (2) Bioreactor system - high density and growth rate of chlorella; and (3) Gas exchange system - enough for O2 production and CO2 assimilation
Angular and Abundance Distribution of High-energy Gamma Rays and Neutrons Simulated by GEANT4 Code for Solar Flares
In the solar flare observed on June 3, 2012, high energy gamma-rays and
neutrons were observed. The event includes a remarkable feature of a high
neutron/gamma-ratio in the secondary particles. We have examined whether this
high n/-ratio can be explained by simulation. As a result of
simulations using the GEANT4 program, the high n/-ratio may be
reproduced for the case that helium and other heavy ions were dominantly

A protective role of gamma/delta T cells in primary infection with Listeria monocytogenes in mice.
We have previously reported that T cells bearing T cell receptors (TCRs) of gamma/delta type appear at a relatively early stage of primary infection with Listeria monocytogenes in mice. To characterize the early-appearing gamma/delta T cells during listeriosis, we analyzed the specificity and cytokine production of the gamma/delta T cells in the peritoneal cavity in mice inoculated intraperitoneally with a sublethal dose of L. monocytogenes. The early-appearing gamma/delta T cells, most of which were of CD4-CD8- phenotype, proliferated and secreted IFN-gamma and macrophage chemotactic factor in response to purified protein derivative from Mycobacterium tuberculosis, or recombinant 65-kD heat-shock protein derived from M. bovis but not to heat-killed Listeria. To further elucidate the potential role of the gamma/delta T cells in the host-defense mechanism against primary infection with Listeria, we examined the effects of in vivo administration of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against TCR-gamma/delta or TCR-alpha/beta on the bacterial eradication in mice infected with Listeria. Most of alpha/beta T cells or gamma/delta T cells were depleted in the peripheral lymphoid organs at least for 12 d after an intraperitoneal injection of 200 micrograms TCR-alpha/beta mAb or 200 micrograms TCR-gamma/delta mAb, respectively. An exaggerated bacterial multiplication was evident at the early stage of listerial infection in the gamma/delta T cells-depleted mice, whereas the alpha/beta T cell-depleted mice exhibited much the same resistance level as the control mice at this stage although the resistance was severely impaired at the late stage after listerial infection.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS
Role of shocked accretion flows in regulating the QPO of galactic black hole candidates
Using a generalized non-spherical, multi-transonic accretion flow model, we
analytically calculate the normalized QPO frequency
of galactic black hole candidates in terms of dynamical flow variables and
self-consistently study the dependence of on such
variables. Our results are in fairly close agreement with the observed QPO
frequencies of GRS 1915+105. We find that is quite
sensitive to various parameters describing the black hole accretion flow
containing dissipative and non-dissipative shock waves. Thus the QPO phenomena
is, {\it indeed}, regulated by `shocked' black hole accretion, and, for the
first time, we establish a definitive connection between the QPO frequency and
the properties of advective BH accretion flows. This information may provide
the explanation of some important observations of galactic micro quasars.Comment: Final version accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal
