Critical Current Properties in Longitudinal Magnetic Field of YBCO Superconductor with APC
The critical current density (Jc) properties of the Artificial Pinning Center (APC) introduced YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) films in the longitudinal magnetic field were measured. Y2O3 or Y2BaCuO5 (Y211) was introduced as APCs to YBCO, and YBCO films with APC were fabricated on SrTiO3 single crystal substrate. The sizes of Y2O3 and Y211 were 5—10 nm and 10—20 nm, respectively. As a result, Jc enhancement in the longitudinal magnetic field was observed in Y2O3 introduced YBCO films. However, it was not observed in Y211 introduced YBCO films. Therefore, it was considered that Jc properties in the longitudinal magnetic field were affected by introducing of small size APC, and it was necessary that APC does not disturb the current pathway in the superconductor.28th International Symposium on Superconductivity, ISS 2015, November 16-18, 2015, Tokyo, Japa
An Analytical Study on the Multi-critical Behaviour and Related Bifurcation Phenomena for Relativistic Black Hole Accretion
We apply the theory of algebraic polynomials to analytically study the
transonic properties of general relativistic hydrodynamic axisymmetric
accretion onto non-rotating astrophysical black holes. For such accretion
phenomena, the conserved specific energy of the flow, which turns out to be one
of the two first integrals of motion in the system studied, can be expressed as
a 8 degree polynomial of the critical point of the flow configuration.
We then construct the corresponding Sturm's chain algorithm to calculate the
number of real roots lying within the astrophysically relevant domain of
. This allows, for the first time in literature, to {\it
analytically} find out the maximum number of physically acceptable solution an
accretion flow with certain geometric configuration, space-time metric, and
equation of state can have, and thus to investigate its multi-critical
properties {\it completely analytically}, for accretion flow in which the
location of the critical points can not be computed without taking recourse to
the numerical scheme. This work can further be generalized to analytically
calculate the maximal number of equilibrium points certain autonomous dynamical
system can have in general. We also demonstrate how the transition from a
mono-critical to multi-critical (or vice versa) flow configuration can be
realized through the saddle-centre bifurcation phenomena using certain
techniques of the catastrophe theory.Comment: 19 pages, 2 eps figures, to appear in "General Relativity and

Field Effect Magnetization Reversal in Ferromagnetic Semiconductor Quantum Wells
We predict that a novel bias-voltage assisted magnetization reversal process
will occur in Mn doped II-VI semiconductor quantum wells or heterojunctions
with carrier induced ferromagnetism. The effect is due to strong
exchange-coupling induced subband mixing that leads to electrically tunable
hysteresis loops. Our model calculations are based on the mean-field theory of
carrier induced ferromagnetism in Mn-doped quantum wells and on a
semi-phenomenological description of the host II-VI semiconductor valence
bands.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
On the simulation of enzymatic digest patterns: the fragmentation of oligomeric and polymeric galacturonides by endo-polygalacturonase II
A simulation methodology for predicting the time-course of enzymatic
digestions is described. The model is based solely on the enzyme's subsite
architecture and concomitant binding energies. This allows subsite binding
energies to be used to predict the evolution of the relative amounts of
different products during the digestion of arbitrary mixtures of oligomeric or
polymeric substrates. The methodology has been specifically demonstrated by
studying the fragmentation of a population of oligogalacturonides of varying
degrees of polymerization, when digested by endo-polygalacturonase II (endo-PG
II) from Aspergillus niger.Comment: Preprint - has been accepted to Biochimica et Biophysica Act
Shor-Preskill Type Security-Proofs for Concatenated Bennett-Brassard 1984 Quantum Key Distribution Protocol
We discuss long code problems in the Bennett-Brassard 1984 (BB84) quantum key
distribution protocol and describe how they can be overcome by concatenation of
the protocol. Observing that concatenated modified Lo-Chau protocol finally
reduces to the concatenated BB84 protocol, we give the unconditional security
of the concatenated BB84 protocol.Comment: 4 pages, RevTe
Augmented Reality in Astrophysics
Augmented Reality consists of merging live images with virtual layers of
information. The rapid growth in the popularity of smartphones and tablets over
recent years has provided a large base of potential users of Augmented Reality
technology, and virtual layers of information can now be attached to a wide
variety of physical objects. In this article, we explore the potential of
Augmented Reality for astrophysical research with two distinct experiments: (1)
Augmented Posters and (2) Augmented Articles. We demonstrate that the emerging
technology of Augmented Reality can already be used and implemented without
expert knowledge using currently available apps. Our experiments highlight the
potential of Augmented Reality to improve the communication of scientific
results in the field of astrophysics. We also present feedback gathered from
the Australian astrophysics community that reveals evidence of some interest in
this technology by astronomers who experimented with Augmented Posters. In
addition, we discuss possible future trends for Augmented Reality applications
in astrophysics, and explore the current limitations associated with the
technology. This Augmented Article, the first of its kind, is designed to allow
the reader to directly experiment with this technology.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures. Accepted for publication in Ap&SS. The final

A Novel 2D Folding Technique for Enhancing Fermi Surface Signatures in the Momentum Density: Application to Compton Scattering Data from an Al-3at%Li Disordered Alloy
We present a novel technique for enhancing Fermi surface (FS) signatures in
the 2D distribution obtained after the 3D momentum density in a crystal is
projected along a specific direction in momentum space. These results are
useful for investigating fermiology via high resolution Compton scattering and
positron annihilation spectroscopies. We focus on the particular case of the
(110) projection in an fcc crystal where the standard approach based on the use
of the Lock-Crisp-West (LCW) folding theorem fails to give a clear FS image due
to the strong overlap with FS images obtained through projection from higher
Brillouin zones. We show how these superposed FS images can be disentangled by
using a selected set of reciprocal lattice vectors in the folding process. The
applicability of our partial folding scheme is illustrated by considering
Compton spectra from an Al-3at%Li disordered alloy single crystal. For this
purpose, high resolution Compton profiles along nine directions in the (110)
plane were measured. Corresponding highly accurate theoretical profiles in
Al-3at%Li were computed within the local density approximation (LDA)-based
Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker coherent potential approximation (KKR-CPA)
first-principles framework. A good level of overall accord between theory and
experiment is obtained, some expected discrepancies reflecting electron
correlation effects notwithstanding, and the partial folding scheme is shown to
yield a clear FS image in the (110) plane in Al-3%Li.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Strong rejuvenation in a chiral-glass superconductor
The glassy paramagnetic Meissner phase of a BiSrCaCuO
superconductor ( = 8.18) is investigated by squid magnetometry, using
``dc-memory'' experiments employed earlier to study spin glasses. The
temperature dependence of the zero-field-cooled and thermo-remanent
magnetization is recorded on re-heating after specific cooling protocols, in
which single or multiple halts are performed at constant temperatures. The
'spin' states equilibrated during the halts are retrieved on re-heating. The
observed memory and rejuvenation effects are similar to those observed in
Heisenberg-like spin glasses.Comment: REVTeX 4 style; 5 pages, 5 figure
Development and operational experience of magnetic horn system for T2K experiment
A magnetic horn system to be operated at a pulsed current of 320 kA and to
survive high-power proton beam operation at 750 kW was developed for the T2K
experiment. The first set of T2K magnetic horns was operated for over 12
million pulses during the four years of operation from 2010 to 2013, under a
maximum beam power of 230 kW, and protons were exposed to
the production target. No significant damage was observed throughout this
period. This successful operation of the T2K magnetic horns led to the
discovery of the oscillation phenomenon in 2013 by
the T2K experiment. In this paper, details of the design, construction, and
operation experience of the T2K magnetic horns are described.Comment: 22 pages, 40 figures, also submitted to Nuclear Instrument and
