Bounded Rationality in Principal‐Agent Relationships

We conducted six treatments of a standard moral hazard experiment with hidden action. All treatments had identical Nash equilibria. However, the behavior in all treatments and periods was inconsistent with established agency theory (Nash equilibrium). In the early periods of the experiment, behavior differed significantly between treatments. This difference largely vanished in the final periods. We used logit equilibrium (LE) as a device to grasp boundedly rational behavior and found the following: (1) LE predictions are much closer to subjects’ behavior in the laboratory; (2) LE probabilities of choosing between strategies and experimental behavior show remarkably similar patterns; and (3) profit‐maximizing contract offers according to the LE are close to those derived from regressions.experiment, logit equilibrium, moral hazard, hidden action

E-Learning in der Hochschullehre: Überholt Technik Gesellschaft? Lern- und lehrtheoretische Überlegungen zu einfachen E-Learning-Anwendungen in der Volkswirtschaftslehre

Die jüngere Diskussion über E-Learning-Anwendungen in der (Hochschul-)Lehre ist geprägt von einer gewissen Begeisterung über die Möglichkeiten anspruchsvoller, entwickelter Computertechnik. Die Realität sieht oft anders aus: In Hochschulen werden – außerhalb einzelner Pilotprojekte – oft einfache E-Learning Anwendungen genutzt, die die Potentiale modernster Computertechnologie nicht annähernd ausnutzen. An solchen Anwendungen wiederum wird in der aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Diskussion grundlegende, teilweise pauschale Kritik geübt. Können solche einfachen Anwendungen – trotz dieser Kritik – in bestimmten Bereichen der Hochschullehre sinnvoll eingesetzt werden? Wo liegen bei genauerer Betrachtung ihre Möglichkeiten und Grenzen? Warum werden weiter entwickeltere Programme nicht häufiger eingesetzt? Der folgende Beitrag untersucht diese Fragen exemplarisch für einfache Selbsttest-Einheiten, die im Rahmen des EU-geförderten Projekts «Web-Econ» von europäischen Hochschulen für das Fach Volkswirtschaftslehre erstellt und in der Lehre erprobt wurden. Grundlage hierfür ist ein knapper Überblick über Gestaltungsprinzipien von Lern-Hilfsmitteln (Instruktions- und Problemlösungs-Prinzip) und sie fundierende lerntheoretische Ansätze (Behaviourismus, Kognitivismus und Konstruktivismus)

A study on when to conclude a long term fertilizer trial on coconut yield

Yield data obtained for twenty consecutive from a fertilizer trial carried out at the coconut research institute in Sri Lanka on a mature coconut plantation was subjected to an analysis with a view to ascertatining the relative influence of repeated application of fertilizer on coconut yield. The inter-annual correlation coefficients between successive pairs of years showed that the correlations first increased, then reached a plateau, then increased again and finally ended up in an asymptote. From the eighth year onwards the inter-annual correlation between succeeding pair of years remained stati0onary. The average correlation was 0.9351. On the basis of these results, an eight to ten year period is considered sufficient to under stand the full response to fertilizer in an experiment. After this period, it appears no useful purpose would be achieved

ARXPS-studies ofcˆ-axis textured YBa2Cu3Ox-films

YBa2Cu3Ox sputter deposited cold on MgO grows in O2 annealing epitaxially to a transparent, superconducting film with Tc 80K. The unscraped surfaces of these films are smooth showing XPS lines changing with photoelectron take-off angle. This enhanced data base allows to separate the different chemical compounds (hydroxide, peroxide, carbonate, carboxyle, cuprate, graphite ...) and to obtain their spatial distribution. This yields the compounds, their amount and distribution making up the cinder growing with O2-anneal at internal and external surfaces. The cinder stoichiometry gives insights in the chemistry going on in O2 annealing. Below the cinder the signature ofcˆ-axis oriented YBa2Cu3Ox is identified, showing that a Ba-oxide layer forms the stable surface. This coats insulating CuO2 and Y-oxide layers yielding so an intrinsic dead layer

Perícia Social: bases sócio-institucionais e condições de desenvolvimento no campo profissional do Serviço Social

TCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Sócio Econômico, Curso de Serviço SocialO presente trabalho tem por objetivo descrever e analisar o papel do Serviço Social como profissão, especialmente do ponto de vista da atuação pericial do assistente social no campo social. Destaca-se a necessidade de situar este tipo de função no contexto da trajetória sóciohistórica da profissão, o que significou, no caso da presente pesquisa, realizar um resgate das abordagens teóricas que, no campo das ciências sociais em geral e do Serviço Social, em particular, reconhecem a natureza socialmente construída desta e de todas as profissões, como resultado das complexas relações que o conhecimento científico-técnico e as profissões estabelecem com a cultura e a sociedade em cada momento histórico, e, particularmente, como conseqüência da divisão sócio-técnica do trabalho coletivo. O estudo tem caráter monográfico, no sentido de abordar a problemática da perícia social, suas limitações e possibilidades, de maneira bastante abrangente, no que diz respeito a sua localização social no contexto do desenvolvimento dos sistemas peritos mais amplos que caracterizam a experiência da modernidade nas sociedades capitalistas no momento contemporâneo, como seria o caso dos sistemas periciais nas áreas da administração da justiça e da previdência social. Neste sentido, propõe-se analisar o papel pericial do Serviço Social como um de seus desdobramentos ou competências específicas #porém, não exclusivas desta profissão # , mas também, como resultado de uma divisão do trabalho que determina quais são as áreas de conhecimento e campos profissionais socialmente reconhecidos como competentes para desenvolver práticas forenses, quais os objetos ou matérias que lhes correspondem, e sob quais condições os laudos dos profissionais do social participam na construção de evidências , provas e verdades. No trabalho também é examinado como o estatuto de uma profissão pode afetar suas funções periciais. Nesse sentido, afirma-se que a existência de uma profissão bem estabelecida ou completamente institucionalizada enquanto tal é condição necessária, porém, não suficiente para formar peritos. Assim, discute-se a ausência de consenso em torno do tipo de profissão que seria o Serviço Social na contemporaneidade, tanto em termos de reconhecimento social e legal, quanto do ponto de vista das próprias auto-definições nos ambientes acadêmicos e corporativos da profissão. Estas divergências alcançam também a questão das práticas periciais, sua pertinência e aplicações. Finalmente, o trabalho discute aspectos referentes à própria natureza do material que seria objeto de laudos periciais, já que o social envolve dimensões tanto individuais quanto coletivas e seu conteúdo fortemente simbólico e de caráter imaterial, coloca um conjunto de desafios éticos, políticos e teóricometodológicos para cujo enfrentamento vislumbra-se um longo percurso de trabalho para a profissão em suas diferentes áreas de atuaçã
