Industry is in the greatest degree responsible for the deteriorated quality of the environment. The holistic approach to production aims at prevention of environmental pollution and wastes. It begins at the stage of project design, through production phase and recycling possibilities. Technical dimension is especially devoted to look for products or technologies which are material-saving, energy-efficient and no-waste. The aim of the article is to present supportive methods for introducing the principle of sustainable development into industrial plants.Przemysł jest w największym stopniu odpowiedzialny za pogarszający się stan środowiska przyrodniczego. Endometriosis with dyspnea – is it possible?
Dyspnea is defined by American Thoracic Society as a subjective experience of breathing discomfort that consist of qualitatively distinct sensation that vary in intensity. As a pulmonary symptom, it is rarely associated with pathology of the reproductive organs. However, shortness of breath can be the first sign of endometriosis. The entity known as thoracic endometriosis syndrome is a manifestation of endometriosis, within the lung parenchyma or on the diaphram and pleural surface. Physical activity in prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus
Type 2 diabetes in more than 70% of cases is caused by overweight and obesity. In many cases, a proper diet and increased physical activity are effective in the prevention and treatment of insulin resistance and pre-diabetes, which usually prevents the development of the disease. However, the recommendations for physical activity in type 2 diabetics differ from those for healthy people. The synthesis and characterization of cad-
mium(II) and calcium(II) complexes with

ligands derived from pyrazinecarboxylic acid (3-hydroxy-

) are reported. Obtained compounds [Cd(L

)

were studied by elemental analyses, IR, Raman spectros-
copy and thermogravimetric methods (TG, DTG, DSC). In
addition, the molecular structure of complex
1
has been
determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Thermal
analysis reveals a decomposition process of
1
,
3
complexes
in multiple stages. The data obtained from TG and DSC
curves for
1
,
3
confirm not only the presence but also the
nature of water (crystallization and coordination) and the
stoichiometry of the studied metal complexes. The results
of thermal studies are in good agreement with their crystal
structures. Thermal behavior of complex
2
indicates a
single complete decomposition process of the sample. In
addition, complex
2
as a coordination polymer is the most
stable all of them and the thermal stability of the obtained
complexes can be ordered in the following sequence:

The prognostic value of mean platelet volume in cancer patients
Basic hematological indices, such as platelets count (PLT), platelet distribution width (PDW), mean platelet volume (MPV), and plateletcrit (PCT), are readily accessible and commonly tested indicators. As platelets play a significant role in many physiological and patho- logical pathways, the abnormalities in these indices inference about irregularities within the organism, such as homeostatic disorders or inflammation. Recent studies revealed a significant impact of MPV on the course and prediction in different types of neoplasms. This review summarizes the most important studies on the impact of MPV levels on outcome and prognosis in different types of cancer conducted in recent years. MPV levels have a significant impact on the length of progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in many types of solid tumors, such as colorectal carcinoma, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, breast cancer, and thyroid cancer. They also affect the prognosis in some lymphoproliferative diseases, such as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or primary and secondary myelofibrosis
Analiza efektywności techniki MLPA w inwazyjnej diagnostyce prenatalnej najczęstszych aneuploidii
Cel badania: Ustalenie efektywności metody MLPA (multiplex ligation dependent probe amplification) w prenatalnej diagnostyce najczęściej występujących aneuploidii (chromosomów 21, 18, 13, X oraz Y) oraz porównanie wyników uzyskanych tą metodą z wynikami rutynowych technik prążkowych. Materiał i metoda: Przeprowadzono badanie metodą MLPA z zastosowaniem zestawu sond SALSA MLPA P095 (MRC – Holland) na 195 próbkach DNA wyizolowanego z materiału pochodzącego z inwazyjnych badań prenatalnych wykonanych w Pracowni USG SPSK im. Prof. Orłowskiego od października 2008 r. do lipca 2012 r. u pacjentek o podwyższonym ryzyku aberracji chromosomowych u płodu oraz 5 próbkach materiału po poronieniu indukowanym. Jednocześnie prowadzono hodowle komórkowe i oceniano kariotyp klasyczną metodą cytogenetyczną. Wyniki: Kariotyp oznaczono w 192 badaniach prenatalnych (98,5%; 192/195). W 52 przypadkach (26,8%) stwierdzono nieprawidłowy kariotyp płodu – w większości proste aneuploidie chromosomów 13, 18, 21, X i Y (86,5%, 45/52). Wynik metodą MLPA udało się uzyskać w 180 próbkach DNA z materiału pobranego prenatalnie (92,3 180/195). Bezwzględna czułość i swoistość metody MLPA wyniosła 100%. W dziewięciu próbkach pobranych prenatalnie metodą MLPA nie zidentyfikowano aberracji wykrytych klasyczną metodą prążkową lub FISH. W żadnym z tych przypadków nie było możliwe uzyskanie rzeczywistego wyniku stosowanym zestawem sond. We wszystkich próbkach materiału po poronieniu udało się przeprowadzić reakcję MLPA. Wnioski: MLPA jest skuteczną metodą wykrywania najczęstszych aneuploidii w diagnostyce prenatalnej. Ze względu na małą ilość przeprowadzonych reakcji na materiale po poronieniu, ocena przydatności metody w tych przypadkach wymaga dalszych badań
Novel eight-coordinated Cd(II) complexes with two homologous pyridine alcohols : crystal structure, spectroscopic and thermal properties
Two novel cadmium(II) complexes with homologous pyridine alcohols: [Cd(2-MeOHPy)
2
(NO
3
)
2
](
1
) and
[Cd(2-EtOHPy)
2
(NO
3
)
2
](
2
) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray crystallo-
graphic studies, spectroscopic (IR,
1
H and
13
C NMR) and thermal properties. IR, NMR and X-ray analysis
have confirmed a bidentate fashion of coordination of heteroaromatic alcohols with Cd(II) ions. 2-MeO-
HPy bound directly to the central ion by N, O-donor atoms giving five-membered chelate ring but 2-
EtOHPy formed less stable six-membered chelate ring. In the complex (
1
) and (
2
) bidentate nitrate
ligands are arranged in
cis
position for organic ligands. In both cases cadmium(II) ions are eight-coordi-
nated and shape of coordination polyhedral can be described as pseudo-dodecahedron (CdN
2
O
6
chromo-
phore type). The crystal packing of Cd(II) complexes are stabilized by intermolecular classical hydrogen
bonds of O
A
H
O and non-classical C
A
H
O type. In addition, there are
p
–
p
stacking interactions
between almost parallel-displaced pyridine rings of 2-hydroxymethylpyridine in the two neighbouring
complex (
1
) molecules but the hydrogen interactions in (
2
) are formed by C
A
H donor group of Py rings
and
p
-electron system of neighbouring one
