Arm cavity resonant sideband control for laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors
We present a new optical control scheme for a laser interferometric gravitational wave detector that has a high degree of tolerance to interferometer spatial distortions and noise on the input light. The scheme involves resonating the rf sidebands in an interferometer arm cavity

Pressure and force data for a flat wing and a warped conical wing having a shockless recompression at Mach 1.62
A conical nonlinear flow computer code was used to design a warped (cambered) wing which would produce a supercritical expansion and shockless recompression of the crossflow at a lift coefficient of 0.457, an angle of attack of 10 deg, and a Mach number of 1.62. This cambered wing and a flat wing the same thickness distribution were tested over a range of Mach numbers from 1.6 to 2.0. For both models the forward 60 percent is purely conical geometry. Results obtained with the cambered wing demonstrated the design features of a supercritical expansion and a shockless recompression, whereas results obtained with the flat wing indicated the presence of crossflow shocks. Tables of experimental pressure, force, and moment data are included, as well as selected oil flow photographs
Debatable issues in automated ECG reporting
Although automated ECG analysis has been available for many years, there are some aspects which require to be re-assessed with respect to their value while newer techniques which are worthy of review are beginning to find their way into routine use. At the annual International Society of Computerized Electrocardiology conference held in April 2017, four areas in particular were debated. These were a) automated 12 lead resting ECG analysis; b) real time out of hospital ECG monitoring; c) ECG imaging; and d) single channel ECG rhythm interpretation. One speaker presented the positive aspects of each technique and another outlined the more negative aspects. Debate ensued. There were many positives set out for each technique but equally, more negative features were not in short supply, particularly for out of hospital ECG monitoring
Measurement of Newtonian fluid slip using a torsional ultrasonic oscillator
The composite torsional ultrasonic oscillator, a versatile experimental
system, can be used to investigate slip of Newtonian fluid at a smooth surface.
A rigorous analysis of slip-dependent damping for the oscillator is presented.
Initially, the phenomenon of finite surface slip and the slip length are
considered for a half-space of Newtonian fluid in contact with a smooth,
oscillating solid surface. Definitions are revisited and clarified in light of
inconsistencies in the literature. We point out that, in general oscillating
flows, Navier's slip length b is a complex number. An intuitive velocity
discontinuity parameter of unrestricted phase is used to describe the effect of
slip on measurement of viscous shear damping. The analysis is applied to the
composite oscillator and preliminary experimental work for a 40 kHz oscillator
is presented. The Non-Slip Boundary Condition (NSBC) has been verified for a
hydrophobic surface in water to within ~60 nm of |b|=0 nm. Experiments were
carried out at shear rate amplitudes between 230 and 6800 /s, corresponding to
linear displacement amplitudes between 3.2 and 96 nm.Comment: Revised with minor edits for revie
Time-resolved, multi-color photometry and spectroscopy of Virgo 4 (OU Vir): a high orbital inclination, short orbital period dwarf nova
We present multi-color photometry and time resolved spectroscopy of OU Vir.
The analysis of the quiescent light curve shows that OU Vir is characterized by
i) strong cycle-to-cycle brightness variations, and ii) hot spot modulated
light curve with grazing eclipse of the impact region. Colors are derived both
in- and out- of eclipse. The time-resolved spectroscopy allows us to produce
the radial velocity curve from the H accretion disk emission line which
possibly reveals only weak evidence for hot spot line emission. The hot spot is
believed to be a turbulent optically thick region, producing mostly continuum

Aqueous-Based Extrusion Fabrication of Ceramics on Demand
Aqueous-Based Extrusion Fabrication is an additive manufacturing technique that
extrudes ceramic slurries of high solids loading layer by layer for part fabrication. The
material reservoir in a previously developed system has been modified to allow for
starting and stopping of the extrusion process on demand. Design pros and cons are
examined and a comparison between two material reservoir designs is made. Tests are
conducted to determine the optimal deposition parameters for starting and stopping the
extrudate on demand. The collected test data is used for the development of a deposition
strategy that improves material deposition consistency, including reduced material
buildup at sharp corners. Example parts are fabricated using the deposition strategy and
