Get PDF
In the natural surroundings tectonical, climatological, dynamic and physico-chemical conditions of sedimentation are the crucial factors in the process of sediment composition formation. Grain size is one of the most investigated reasons of space and temporary variability in heavy metal concentration. In general, the data on grain size measurement afford to appreciate sorption capacity of sediments and arrange them. The dependence heavy metal content on grain size of sediments has been examined in the enormous amount of research works. The main conclusion is that if grain size decreases, metal content increases. We have carried out sediment grain size measurement of two lakes (Chebachje Lake, Piketnoye Lake) located in the South of Western Siberia, Russia. To define grain size of these sediments the sorting of samples collected layer-by-layer has been conducted by nest of sieves (from 43 to 1000 µm). Accomplished examinations allow to state that layer-by-layer grain size measurement of sediments has significant importance in reconstruction of paleoecologic peculiarities and also influences organic and inorganic matter concentrating in the sediments in dynamic

The aim of this paper is the investigation of the role of diagenesis in the transformation of clastic sulfide sediments such as sulfide breccias from the Semenov-3 hydrothermal field (Mid-Atlantic Ridge). The breccias are composed of marcasite–pyrite clasts enclosed in a barite–sulfide–quartz matrix. Primary hydrothermal sulfides occur as colloform, fine-crystalline, porous and radial marcasite–pyrite clasts with inclusions or individual clasts of chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, bornite, barite and rock-forming minerals. Diagenetic processes are responsible for the formation of more diverse authigenic mineralization including framboidal, ovoidal and nodular pyrite, coarse-crystalline pyrite and marcasite, anhedral and reniform chalcopyrite, inclusions of HgS phase and pyrrhotite–sphalerite–chalcopyrite aggregates in coarse-crystalline pyrite, zoned bornite–chalcopyrite grains, specular and globular hematite, tabular barite and quartz. The early diagenetic ovoid pyrite is enriched in most trace elements in contrast to late diagenetic varieties. Authigenic lower-temperature chalcopyrite is depleted in trace elements relative to high-temperature hydrothermal ones. Trace elements have different modes of occurrence: Se is hosted in pyrite and chalcopyrite; Tl is related to sphalerite and galena nanoinclusions; Au is associated with galena; As in pyrite is lattice-bound, whereas in chalcopyrite it is related to tetrahedrite–tennantite nanoinclusions; Cd in pyrite is hosted in sphalerite inclusions; Cd in chalcopyrite forms its own mineral; Co and Ni are hosted in chalcopyrite

The development of industry, the use of various chemicals in technological processes, the large emissions of industrial enterprises, the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in agriculture have caused environmental pollution with harmful substances. Environmental protection is now becoming one of the economic problems and is an extremely urgent task of humanity. The purpose of this article is to present the main results of the study and analysis of atmospheric air pollution by the asphalt plant, which is located almost in the center of Yekaterinburg; to investigate the compliance of the existing hazard class of the enterprise, which increases its production volumes, to correct the size and location of the sanitary protection zone of the plant, taking into account the wind rose, and to try to propose a number of measures to reduce the negative impact of the plants in this industry. In considering the impact of anthropogenic activities on nature, attention should be paid to the concept of sustainable development, which carries principles based on the satisfaction of human needs, with a focus on caring for the well-being of future generations. If we consider the issue from the perspective of this concept, then the asphalt plant, in order to prevent possible environmental damage, should invest material and money to further minimize the amount of pollutants

The studying of a process of teachers’ professional competence expansion in the conditions of updating of domestic professional education was based on the checking up a hypothesis of interrelation between teachers’ competences and their professional competence. Data of college teachers’ poll of the Tatarstan Republic and the Republic of Mordovia in the conditions of educational standards of the fourth generation’ introduction and professional standards were investigated. The technique of studying the teachers’ opinion on expansion of teachers’ professional competence is theoretically proved and developed. Dynamics of teaching opinion is investigated by means of the adapted didactic means, which allow one to describe quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the happening processes. The research has rather fully allowed revealing the observed unevenness of formation of innovative professional competences of the interviewed teachers. Although a self-assessment formation of the respondents of the offered competences is above an average (on a 10-mark scale), the quantitative indices define the leading role of cognitive competences. Results of the conducted research are useful for experts in the field of education and are of interest for the general public in the conditions of an innovirovaniye of domestic professional education

Mating with immunised male mice affects the phenotype of adult progeny

The life-history theory suggests that parental experience of the environment is passed to offspring, which allows them to adapt to prevailing conditions. This idea is supported from the mother's side, but to a much less extent from the father's side. Here, we investigated the effect of immunising fathers on pre- and neonatal development and on immune and neuroendocrine phenotypes of their offspring in C57BL/6J mice. Nine days before mating, fathers were intraperitoneally injected with the immunogenic protein keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH). Females mated with immunised males had less pre-weaning mortality of newborns compared to those mated with control males. Although the antibody response to KLH was similar for the male offspring of control and immunised fathers, the mass indexes of their main immune organs and their androgen response differed significantly. The mass indexes of the thymus and spleen in adult male offspring of immunised fathers were higher compared with the control offspring. The plasma testosterone levels were significantly decreased after KLH administration in the male offspring of control but not of immunised fathers. This was correlated with changes in sperm average path and straight-line velocities. Finally, excitatory neurotransmitters prevailed over inhibitory ones in the amygdala of the progeny of immunised fathers, while in control offspring, the opposite occurred. This is indicative of complex behavioural changes in the offspring of immunised fathers, including sexual ones. Therefore, the paternal experience of foreign antigens modulates the immune and neuroendocrine systems of their progeny, suggesting possible survival and reproductive adaptations to parasitic pressure

Assessing the Relationship between Verbal and Nonverbal Cognitive Abilities Using Resting-State EEG Functional Connectivity

No full text
The present study investigates the relationship between individual differences in verbal and non-verbal cognitive abilities and resting-state EEG network characteristics. We used a network neuroscience approach to analyze both large-scale topological characteristics of the whole brain as well as local brain network characteristics. The characteristic path length, modularity, and cluster coefficient for different EEG frequency bands (alpha, high and low; beta1 and beta2, and theta) were calculated to estimate large-scale topological integration and segregation properties of the brain networks. Betweenness centrality, nodal clustering coefficient, and local connectivity strength were calculated as local network characteristics. We showed that global network integration measures in the alpha band were positively correlated with non-verbal intelligence, especially with the more difficult part of the test (Raven’s total scores and E series), and the ability to operate with verbal information (the “Conclusions” verbal subtest). At the same time, individual differences in non-verbal intelligence (Raven’s total score and C series), and vocabulary subtest of the verbal intelligence tests, were negatively correlated with the network segregation measures. Our results show that resting-state EEG functional connectivity can reveal the functional architecture associated with an individual difference in cognitive performance
