    Definitive Identification of the Transition between Small- to Large-Scale Clustering for Lyman Break Galaxies

    We report angular correlation function (ACF) of Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) with unprecedented statistical quality on the basis of 16,920 LBGs at z=4 detected in the 1 deg^2 sky of the Subaru/XMM-Newton Deep Field. The ACF significantly departs from a power law, and shows an excess on small scale. Particularly, the ACF of LBGs with i'<27.5 have a clear break between the small and large-scale regimes at the angular separation of ~7'' whose projected length corresponds to the virial radius of dark halos with a mass of 10^11-12 Mo, indicating multiple LBGs residing in a single dark halo. Both on small (2''<theta<3'') and large (40''<theta<400'') scales, clustering amplitudes monotonically increase with luminosity for the magnitude range of i'=24.5-27.5, and the small-scale clustering shows a stronger luminosity dependence than the large-scale clustering. The small-scale bias reaches b~10-50, and the outskirts of small-scale excess extend to a larger angular separation for brighter LBGs.     香港帰来の日本人観光団に発生した腸炎ビブリオ食中毒

    In October 1968, outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis occurred among five Japanese sightseeing groups during their stay in Hong Kong and/or on their homeward return flight. Bacteriologic examination of fecal specimens obtained from 62 of 144 tour members of the third group led to the isolation of 14 Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains with hemolytic activity. No enteric pathogens were isolated from three patients of the fifth party who also had symptoms. As ill persons were rare in the other groups and those who had diarrhea already recovered at the time of the inspection, no fecal examination was performed on them. The history of food consumption suggested that raw sea food served in restaurants in Hong Kong may have been the vehicle of infective agent.昭和43年10月,日本人観光団5団体に,香港に滞在中あるいは引きつづき航空機で帰国中に急性胃腸炎が発生した.東京空港検疫所で帰着時まだ軽微な症状を示していた第3群144名中の62名について検便を行ない,うち14名から神奈川現象陽性腸炎ビブリオを検出した.第5群にも3名の有症者がいたがこれからは病原細菌を検出し得なかった.原因食は香港の水上レストランなどで摂った生の海産物と推定された.この事例の考察にあたり,神奈川現象陽性の本菌が東南アジアの港湾泥土から検出されたこと,および日本以外の国々での本菌ないしその類似菌による食中毒発生例が文献によって概観された

    Serum Apolipoprotein M Levels are Correlated with Biomarkers of Coagulation

    Background:Apolipoprotein M (ApoM) is bound to high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma, and HDL has anticoagulation effects. However, the association between ApoM and biomarkers of coagulation was unclear. Therefore, we investigated relationships between ApoM and biomarkers of coagulation. Methods: Serum samples from 233 Japanese participants including with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, or healthy controls were analyzed. Serum ApoM levels were measured using Enzyme-Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay(ELISA). Results:Analysis of all 233 participants showed that ApoM levels were positively correlated with age (r=0.284, p<0.001), total cholesterol (TC;r=0.477, p<0.001), HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C;r=0.234, p<0.001) and lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C;r=0.331, p<0.001). Higher ApoM levels were correlated with shorter activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT;r=-0.226,p=0.001) and prothrombin time(PT,%;r=0.326,p< 0.001). Separate analysis of the 115 healthy controls showed that ApoM levels were positively correlated with age, TC, HDL-C and LDL-C, and higher ApoM levels were correlated with shorter PT.     Status of Nanosatellite Development for Mothership Daughtership Space Experiment by Japanese Universities

    We have begun the feasibility study to build a small satellite in the 3kg mass range and in the power range less than 30W since October in 1998, sponsored by National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA). This satellite installs three reaction wheels for an attitude control and camera which will demonstrate optical navigation experiment by using image processing. The BBM design status is described in this paper. The components such as a small reaction wheel, electric flash and onboard computer were built. Mothership - daughtership technology and formation flying experiments are planned. New electric propulsion is being developed for small satellite
