Pd element has been deposited on the clean surface of an Al-Pd-Mn quasicrystal by evaporation and using low energy ion scattering (LEIS) technique. The sample was prepared through a combination of sputtering and annealing. Then a Pd monolayer was deposited on the surface and measured the ratio of Al/Pd for clean annealed surface at the room temperature. Drawing the Al/Pd ratio versus time deposition showed a linear behavior, indicating Pd growth is Layer Growth (Frank-Van der-Merwe Growth). Similar experiment for Al has also been done. Results show that growth of Al on the sample is also conform Layer Growth (LG

Functionalization of fullerene via covalent addition of substituted 4-benzo-9-crown-3 ether diazonium salt has been described. This procedure is used for the preparation of new derivative fullerenes which is described as a phase transfer catalyst. The covalent grafting has led to a considerable increment in the solubility of fullerene in organic solvents such as, CH2Cl2, acetone and ethanol. The covalent grafting of crown ether (4-(benzo-9-crown-3)) to fullerene (Fullerene-CE) has been identified and confirmed by IR, H-NMR, 7Li-NMR and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) methods. Fullerene-CE in solvents has been used as a phase transfer catalyst for organic reactions. The Fullerene-CE is capable to become the Li+ host

On incidence energy of a graph

AbstractThe Laplacian-energy like invariant LEL(G) and the incidence energy IE(G) of a graph are recently proposed quantities, equal, respectively, to the sum of the square roots of the Laplacian eigenvalues, and the sum of the singular values of the incidence matrix of the graph G. However, IE(G) is closely related with the eigenvalues of the Laplacian and signless Laplacian matrices of G. For bipartite graphs, IE=LEL. We now point out some further relations for IE and LEL: IE can be expressed in terms of eigenvalues of the line graph, whereas LEL in terms of singular values of the incidence matrix of a directed graph. Several lower and upper bounds for IE are obtained, including those that pertain to the line graph of G. In addition, Nordhaus–Gaddum-type results for IE are established

Introduction: One of the most dangerous brain tumors is Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).The MMPs are very important biomarker in pathologic conditions and be known as metastatic factor. Temozolomide is an oral alkylating agent, and has a good effect on GBM. Gefitinib is a low–molecular weight tyrosine kinase inhibitor that is used in tratmeant of tumor. Methods and Results: The human GBM cell line, U87 mg was obtained from Pasteur Institute of Iran. Cells grown in RPMI 1640 supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum in a humidified incubator at 370C with 5% CO2. Cell viability after treatment, was measured by MTT test. MMP-2, MMP-9, Quantikine® ELISA kits (R&D systems, Minneapolis, USA) were used to measure supernatants MMPs. Effect of the drugs on the enzyme activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 was assessed by gelatin zymography. Synergism of Temozolomide and Imatinib can reduce the IC50 of temozolomide. Our results show that combination of Imatinib and Temozolomide decreased the level and activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in supernatant of culture medium versus to control cells when only Temozolomide or Imatinib was added to their culture medium. Conclusion: Combination of Imatinib as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor and Temozolomide as an alkylating agent is more potent than Temozolomide and it can reduce IC50 and decrease level and activitity of MMP-2 and MMP-9.The current strategies for treatment of glioblastoma are not beneficial enough. Combination therapy probably can reduce the dose of drug, cost of treatment, adverse effects and increase the survival rate of life

Introduction: The effect of touch on growth of newborns has been achieved by educated staff, but touch therapy by mothers as the most important care provider for their infants, had not been focused in previous studies. The aim of this work was to study effect of touch therapy by mothers on weight gaining of preterm newborns. Materials and Methods: In a randomized controlled trail and double blind study, 60 preterm newborns who discharged from neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to home, randomly allocated to control and touch therapy group (30 newborns in each group). Touch therapy was educated to mother in a direct education, also with offering guide booklet to the mothers. Touch was provided for three 20 minute period per day, until term corrected age. Neonate weight in two groups was measured at the time of discharge and then at the term corrected age by the electronic weighing scale with an accuracy of ± 10 gr. Results: In two groups, mean of age, kind of delivery, level of education, employment and socioeconomic status in mothers, also weight, sex and other neonate characteristics had no statistical differences. At the term corrected age, interventional group showed a weight gain of 10 g/day (30) more than control, which was statistically significant (31 g/day vs 21 g/day) (P=0.04). Conclusion: An important aspect of this study is that all stimulations were provided by mothers which had positive impact for preterm newborns, So, education of touch therapy to mothers can be recommended before discharge of pre-term newborns

A survey on the fatty acid composition of cow’s milk in different production systems in Khorramabad, Iran with respect to ω-6:ω-3 ratio

Get PDF
The ratio of ω-6: ω-3 is connected to the higher risk of non-communicable diseases, thus this ratio is becoming more important than quantity of ω-6 and ω-3 in human nutrition. In countries like Iran, cow’s milk is mainly produced in rural area and less in conventional systems. The lactating cows reared in rural and conventional farms are different in terms of nutrition, daily yields, and proportion of concentrate to forage that these might affect milk fatty acid profiles. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the ratio of ω-6: ω-3 in cow’s milk produced in conventional and rural dairy farms in west of Iran, Khorramabad. Twenty bulk milk samples (rural and conventional) were collected from the conventional dairy farms and local milk collection centers. Fatty acid profiles were determined and results showed that conventional milk had higher ω-6 (2.1± 0.4) and lower ω-3 (0.16 ± 0.03) in comparison with rural milk. The ratio of ω-6:ω-3 in rural milk was significantly lower (8:1) than that in conventional milk (13:1) (p<0.01). In conclusion, milk produced in rural dairy farms had better ratio of ω-6:ω-3, thus rural milk could be healthier for human nutrition in terms of ω-3 fatty acids
