    A Review of Attention, Memory, Word Finding, and Executive Function to Support Client Rehabilitation in a Group Therapy Setting

    This paper is a review of attention, memory, word finding, and executive function to support individuals with deficits in these areas seen in a rehabilitative speech-language therapy setting. Each chapter contains a definition of the domain and describes the subdomains included. The chapters also include the neurology associated with the domain and common disorders that include deficits in the areas of attention, memory, word finding, and executive functioning. At the end of each chapter, recommended treatment principles are provided to guide therapy with each domain. This paper was created to accompany a therapy manual titled “Providing Connections Through Group Therapy” in order to treat a variety of patients with deficits in attention, memory, word finding, and executive function. The research in this paper assisted in forming accommodations and lesson plans directed toward the adaption of an inclusive therapy program. The research and therapy manual can guide speech-language pathology graduate students and certified clinicians to implement a group therapy program encompassing a variety of different patients

    Optimisation of Cross-Border Project Management In Higher Education Institutions in the Context of the Impact of Global Economic Crises

    In today's globalized and interconnected world, the impact of global crises poses increasing risks to the economic situation of each country in particular. The study of cross-border cooperation in the context of current crisis processes allows us to identify new risks and ways to minimize them. The purpose of the study is to analyze ways to optimize the management of cross-border projects in the context of the impact of global economic crises. Scenario planning, SWOT analysis, statistical and mathematical research methods are used in the course of the study. The article discusses the peculiarities of managing cross-border projects on the example of the Precarpathian National University in the context of the impact of global economic crises. Using the example of the university, the author analyzes the implementation of cross-border projects for the period of 2020-2022, which occurred during two crises. The first global economic crisis is caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the second regional crisis is caused by the war in Ukraine. The risks faced by the grantee in implementing international programs are identified. The study analyzed four different cross-border projects, which made it possible to assess all the risks in more detail and identify existing problems. For a detailed analysis, the medium-sized PrePOD project was selected, which operated from 2020 to 2022 and received an average amount of funding. The strengths and weaknesses of cross-border cooperation were assessed. The study pays special attention to the role of the Precarpathian National University, emphasizing the need for financial risk management, effective communication, compliance with the law, and adaptation of national legislation to European standards. The paper formulates strategies for improving the management of cross-border projects in the context of global crises, and proposes to create research centers to improve the management of grant activities. It has been determined that flexibility and communication are the international factors that can reduce the impact of crisis processes on the implementation of international cooperation

    SoluProt: prediction of soluble protein expression in Escherichia coli

    Motivation: Poor protein solubility hinders the production of many therapeutic and industrially useful proteins. Experimental efforts to increase solubility are plagued by low success rates and often reduce biological activity. Computational prediction of protein expressibility and solubility in Escherichia coli using only sequence information could reduce the cost of experimental studies by enabling prioritization of highly soluble proteins. Results: A new tool for sequence-based prediction of soluble protein expression in E.coli, SoluProt, was created using the gradient boosting machine technique with the TargetTrack database as a training set. When evaluated against a balanced independent test set derived from the NESG database, SoluProt's accuracy of 58.5% and AUC of 0.62 exceeded those of a suite of alternative solubility prediction tools. There is also evidence that it could significantly increase the success rate of experimental protein studies

    Cluster Analysis of Thermal Icequakes Using the Seismometer to Investigate Ice and Ocean Structure (SIIOS): Implications for Ocean World Seismology

    Ocean Worlds are of high interest to the planetary community due to the potential habitability of their subsurface oceans. Over the next few decades several missions will be sent to ocean worlds including the Europa Clipper, Dragonfly, and possibly a Europa lander. The Dragonfly and Europa lander missions will carry seismic payloads tasked with detecting and locating seismic sources. The Seismometer to Investigate Ice and Ocean Structure (SIIOS) is a NASA PSTAR funded project that investigates ocean world seismology using terrestrial analogs. The goals of the SIIOS experiment include quantitatively comparing flight-candidate seismometers to traditional instruments, comparing single-station approaches to a small-aperture array, and characterizing the local seismic environment of our field sites. Here we present an analysis of detected local events at our field sites at Gulkana Glacier in Alaska and in Northwest Greenland approximately 80 km North of Qaanaaq, Greenland. Both field sites passively recorded data for about two weeks. We deployed our experiment on Gulkana Glacier in September 2017 and in Greenland in June 2018. At Gulkana there was a nearby USGS weather station which recorded wind data. Temperature data was collected using the MERRA satellite. In Greenland we deployed our own weather station to collect temperature and wind data. Gulkana represents a noisier and more active environment. Temperatures fluctuated around 0C, allowing for surface runoff to occur during the day. The glacier had several moulins, and during deployment we heard several rockfalls from nearby mountains. In addition to the local environment, Gulkana is located close to an active plate boundary (relative to Greenland). This meant that there were more regional events recorded over two weeks, than in Greenland. Greenlands local environment was also quieter, and less active. Temperatures remained below freezing. The Greenland ice was much thicker than Gulkana (~850 m versus ~100 m) and our stations were above a subglacial lake. Both conditions can reduce event detections from basal motion. Lastly, we encased our Greenland array in an aluminum vault and buried it beneath the surface unlike our array in Gulkana where the instruments were at the surface and covered with plastic bins. The vault further insulated the array from thermal and atmospheric events

While extensive research analyzes the economic and political impacts of Ukrainian migration, few studies examine its influence on domestic educational processes. Thus, this study helps fill this gap through the in-depth examination of migrants’ motivations, particularly the desire to finance quality education for children. By elucidating these understudied connections, the study aims to inform education policies and partnerships that leverage migration’s developmental potential while mitigating the risks of brain drain

    Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on delays in diagnosis and treatment of tick-borne diseases endemic to southeastern USA

    BACKGROUND: The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was marked by an increase in diagnosis and treatment delays for a range of medical conditions. Yet the impact of the pandemic on the management of tick-borne diseases, which frequently manifest as an acute febrile illness similar to COVID-19, has not been well described. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study of patients with suspected tick-borne disease attending the University of North Carolina Health facilities, we compared the timeliness of diagnosis and treatment in a "pre-COVID" period (March 2019 to February 2020) and a "post-COVID" period (March 2020 to February 2021). Participants included patients with an ICD-10 diagnosis code of spotted fever group rickettsiosis or ehrlichiosis and a positive Rickettsia rickettsii or Ehrlichia indirect immunofluorescence assay immunoglobulin G antibody test result. Of the 897 patients who had an eligible diagnosis, 240 (26.8%) met the inclusion criteria. The main outcome was time from initial presentation to definitive diagnosis and treatment. RESULTS: During the 2-year study period, 126 (52.5%) patients were grouped in the pre-COVID period and 114 (47.5%) were grouped in the post-COVID period; 120 (50.0%) were female; and 139 (57.9%) were aged > 50 years. Comparing the post-COVID to the pre-COVID period, the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) for delay in treatment > 0 days was 1.81 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.07-3.07, P = 0.03), and for a treatment delay > 7 days, 1.65 (95% CI 0.94-2.90, P = 0.08). The odds of a delay in diagnosis were similar for patients in the post- and pre-COVID periods, with an aOR of 1.61 (95% CI 0.96-2.72, P = 0.07) for delays > 0 days, and aOR of 1.72 (95% CI 0.99-3.00, P = 0.05) for delays > 7 days. CONCLUSIONS: The odds of a delay in treatment > 0 days were significantly higher in the post-COVID period than in the pre-COVID period. However, the odds of a delay in treatment > 7 days, or a delay in diagnosis, were similar between these two periods. Shifts in care-seeking, alternative care delivery models and prioritization of COVID-19 may contribute to diminished timeliness of treatment for patients with tick-borne diseases
