    The Role of Individual Board Member Resilience, Professionalization, and Commitment in Predicting Volunteer Intentions Among A Not-For-Profit Board of Directors

    The U.S. property management industry, of which community association management is a subset, is valued at $88.4 billion (Roth, 2020). In a volatile industry such as community association management, client retention is critical, and company success lies with the volunteer members of the board of directors. This dissertation investigates the relationship between individual board member resilience, volunteer board members’ organizational commitment, and the impact of these variables on volunteer intention in not-for-profit board of directors in condominium associations. Furthermore, the study investigates the moderating relationship that the perception of professionalization of the community association manager has on resilience and volunteer board member commitment. Results establish that individual board member resilience does in fact have an effect on a board members’ volunteer intention through the mediation of board member affective commitment. Results further establish that individual board member resilience has a positive effect on board member commitment (affective and normative), and affective commitment has a direct effect on volunteer intention. Findings suggest that community association managers (CAM’s) and management firms need to be mindful of these effects and make every attempt to ensure that their relationship with their respective boards are enhanced on an individual level. CAM’s have the ability to impact organizational objectives through the inherent-principal agent relationship. This study adds to the academic literature on resilience within the property management and volunteerism context as well as stewardship theory in nonprofit governance. Managerial implications and future research opportunities are also discussed

    An API for IPv6 Multihoming based on HBA and CGA

This API is based on the Hash Based Addresses and Cryptographically Generated Addresses approaches, which are being developed by the IETF multi6 Working Group. The support of Multihoming implies several actions such as failure detection procedures, reachability tests, re-homing procedures and exchange of locators. Applications can benefit from transparent access to Multihoming services only if per host Multihoming parameters are defined. However, more benefits could be obtained by applications if they will be able to configure these parameters.     On excited states in real-time AdS/CFT

    The Skenderis-van Rees prescription, which allows the calculation of time-ordered correlation functions of local operators in CFT’s using holographic methods is studied and applied for excited states. Calculation of correlators and matrix elements of local CFT operators between generic in/out states are carried out in global Lorentzian AdS. We find the precise form of such states, obtain an holographic formula to compute the inner product between them, and using the consistency with other known prescriptions, we argue that the in/out excited states built according to the Skenderis-Van Rees prescription correspond to coherent states in the (large-N) AdS-Hilbert space. This is confirmed by explicit holographic computations. The outcome of this study has remarkable implications on generalizing the Hartle-Hawking construction for wave functionals of excited states in AdS quantum gravity.Fil: Botta Cantcheff, Marcelo Angel Nicolas.     Datalog± Ontology Consolidation

    Knowledge bases in the form of ontologies are receiving increasing attention as they allow to clearly represent both the available knowledge, which includes the knowledge in itself and the constraints imposed to it by the domain or the users. In particular, Datalog ± ontologies are attractive because of their property of decidability and the possibility of dealing with the massive amounts of data in real world environments; however, as it is the case with many other ontological languages, their application in collaborative environments often lead to inconsistency related issues. In this paper we introduce the notion of incoherence regarding Datalog± ontologies, in terms of satisfiability of sets of constraints, and show how under specific conditions incoherence leads to inconsistent Datalog ± ontologies. The main contribution of this work is a novel approach to restore both consistency and coherence in Datalog± ontologies. The proposed approach is based on kernel contraction and restoration is performed by the application of incision functions that select formulas to delete. Nevertheless, instead of working over minimal incoherent/inconsistent sets encountered in the ontologies, our operators produce incisions over non-minimal structures called clusters. We present a construction for consolidation operators, along with the properties expected to be satisfied by them. Finally, we establish the relation between the construction and the properties by means of a representation theorem. Although this proposal is presented for Datalog± ontologies consolidation, these operators can be applied to other types of ontological languages, such as Description Logics, making them apt to be used in collaborative environments like the Semantic Web.Fil: Deagustini, Cristhian Ariel David.     Como Lo Hicimos: The Success of Latino/a Businesses in Michigan

    Using data from the same oral history interviews used by Coronado and Martinez (2018), this study describes the success of some Latino businesses operating in Michigan. It is based on interviews with 32 Latino and Latina business owners (LBOs) conducted by researchers at the Julian Samora Research Institute (JSRI) at Michigan State University from 2011 to 2012 in three Michigan cities: Saginaw, Lansing, and Metro Detroit. This study describes the ways and means by which these business owners started their businesses and the success and possible expansion of their activities at the time of the interviews. Almost all had humble start-up operations, relied on their own or family savings, had relatives who owned or operated a business, lacked access to formal financial markets, and had limited knowledge about government programs supporting small businesses. Success was based on hard work and persistence, the pursuit of opportunities, and the use of technology. Most give back to their communities and have expansion plans, either by securing government funds or bank loans
