Geological setting and lithological inventory of the Czarna Woda conglomerates (Magura Nappe, Polish Outer Carpathians)

During the late Oligocene to early Miocene the residual Magura Basin was located along the front of the Pieniny Klippen Belt (PKB). This basin was supplied with clastic material derived from a south-eastern direction. In the Małe (Little) Pieniny Mts. in Poland, the late Oligocene/ early Miocene Kremna Fm. of the Magura Nappe (Krynica subunit) occurs both in front of the PKB as well as in the tectonic windows within the PKB. Lenses of exotic conglomerates in the Kremna Fm. contain frequent clasts of Mesozoic limestones (e.g. limestones with "filaments" microfacies and Urgonian limestones) and Eocene shallow-water limestones. Fragments of crystalline and volcanic rocks occur subordinately. The provenance of these exotic rocks could be probably connected with Eocene exhumation and erosion of the SE part of the Dacia and Tisza Mega-Units

Minimal vertex Ramsey graphs and minimal forbidden subgraphs

AbstractLet P be a property of graphs. A graph G is vertex (P,k)-colourable if the vertex set V(G) of G can be partitioned into k sets V1,V2,…,Vk such that the subgraph G[Vi] of G belongs to P, i=1,2,…,k. If P is a hereditary property, then the set of minimal forbidden subgraphs of P is defined as follows: F(P)={G:G∉PbuteachpropersubgraphHofGbelongstoP}. In this paper we investigate the property On: each component of G has at most n+1 vertices. We construct minimal forbidden subgraphs for the property (Onk) “to be (On,k)-colourable”.We write G→v(H)k, k⩾2, if for each k-colouring V1,V2,…,Vk of a graph G there exists i, 1⩽i⩽k, such that the graph induced by the set Vi contains H as a subgraph. A graph G is called (H)k-vertex Ramsey minimal if G→v(H)k, but G′↛v(H)k for any proper subgraph G′ of G. The class of (P3)k-vertex Ramsey minimal graphs is investigated

Where was the Magura Ocean?

In the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous palaeogeography of the Alpine Tethys the term Ocean is used for different parts of these sedimentary areas: eg. Ligurian-Piedmont and Penninic, Magura, Pieniny, Valais and Ceahlau-Severins oceans. The Magura Ocean occupied the more northern position in the Alpine-Carpathian arc. During the Late Cretaceous-Paleogene tectono-sedimentary evolution the Magura Ocean was transformed into several (Magura, Dukla, Silesian, sub-Silesian and Skole) basins and intrabasinal source area ridges now incorporated into the Outer Western Carpathians

Notopterygium incisum as a source of valuable plant substances from traditional Chinese medicine – review of active components, biological activity and botanical aspects from a phytopharmaceutical perspective

Notopterygium incisum K.C.Ting ex H.T.Chang is a perennial herbaceous plant representing the family Apiaceae. Its natural range mainly covers the north-western, south-western and central parts of China (Gansu, Sichuan, Qinghai and Xizang provinces), as well as the north-eastern part of Tibet. The species provides several herbal medicinal substances (root, rhizome, herb) that have been used in traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese medicine for centuries. Plant materials obtained from Notoptergium incisum (especially the aromatic root and rhizome) are usually included in complex herbal preparations for internal use used as analgesics, anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic agents. The main therapeutic indications for using such preparations are the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, headache or cold conditions with chills. In recent years, numerous phytochemical and pharmacological studies have been conducted to verify and establish the molecular mechanisms of the activity of Notopterygium incisum and active compounds contained in the relevant plant substances. As a result, their multidirectional biological potential has been documented, especially their potent anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and antioxidant activity, followed by some hepatoprotective, antibacterial and anti-cancer effects. Importantly, this species has been introduced into the official European medicine – a monograph of the root and rhizome of Notoptergium incisum (Notopterygii rhizoma et radix) has been included in one of the latest supplements to the European Pharmacopoeia (Supplement 10.7), which also contains several other plant medicinal substances of traditional Far Eastern medicine, underestimated and not used in Europe yet. Impact of pre-operative glycated haemoglobin A1C level on 1-year outcomes of endovascular treatment in patients with critical limb ischemia in the course of diabetes mellitus

I n t r o d u c t i o n: Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) is a disease with worldwide increasing occurrence. Diabetic patients are greatly exposed on the risk of PAOD and its complications. Th e aim of the study was to check the infl uence of preoperative HbA1C on the outcomes of patients with diabetes undergoing PAOD related endovascular treatment. Mat e r i a l a n d Me t h o d s: Th e study was conducted among 59 patients with PAOD referred from the diabetic foot outpatient for endovascular treatment. Th ey were included in one-year observation based on follow-up visits in 1, 3, 6 and 12 months aft er angioplasty and divided into 2 groups basing on their preoperative glycaemia. Th e clinical condition of the lower limbs was assessed by use of the Rutherford classifi cation, ankle-brachial index (ABI) and toe-brachial index (TBI). Changes in patients’ quality of life (QoL) were also evaluated. R e s u l t s: Reintervention within 12 months were less frequent in patients with HbA1C ≤8.0% than in HbA1C >8.0% patients (9.09% vs. 35.48%, p = 0.03). TBI of the treated limb was lower in patients with elevated than in patients with proper glycaemia at 6 month [0.2 (0.0–0.38) vs. 0.38 (0.31–0.46); p <0.008] 50 Agnieszka Wachsmann, Mikołaj Maga, et al. and 12 month follow-up [0.17 (0.0–0.27) vs. 0.32 (0.25–0.38); p <0,001]. Th e rate of healed ulcerations aft er 6 months was higher in patients HbA1C ≤8.0% (45.0% vs. 16.13%; p = 0.02) and they had signifi cantly greater improvement of QoL. C on c l u s i o n: Results of this study shows that preoperative level of glycaemia is an important factor for long-term prognosis in diabetic patients with PAOD. Elevated HbA1C level decreases signifi cantly long-term improvement of QoL in DM patients undergoing endovascular treatment

Nowotwór nerki u pacjentów ze szpiczakiem plazmocytowym — opis dwóch przypadków i przegląd piśmiennictwa

Multiple myeloma (MM) is characterized by malignant spreading of monoclonal plasma cells in bone marrow. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a result of neoplastic proliferation of epithelial cells in nephron proximal convoluted tubule and forms 95% of malignant kidney’s neoplasms. There are some reports about coexistence of MM and RCC but it is a rare phenomenon. We describe two cases of patients in which during the therapy of MM, RCC was detected accidentally. Radical nephrectomy in early stage of RCC allowed complete recovery and did not interrupt the continuation of MM’s therapy. Additionally, similar cases from literature are discussed.Szpiczak plazmocytowy (PCM) charakteryzuje się ekspansją nowotworowych komórek plazma­tycznych w szpiku. Rak nerkowokomórkowy (RCC) jest rezultatem złośliwej proliferacji komórek nabłonkowych kanalików proksymalnych nefronu i stanowi 95% złośliwych nowotworów nerki. Współistnienie PCM i RCC to zjawisko bardzo rzadkie, istnieją jedynie pojedyncze doniesienia na ten temat. W pracy przedstawiono opis dwóch chorych, u których w trakcie terapii PCM wykryto przypadkowo RCC. Radykalna nefrektomia (we wczesnej fazie choroby) umożliwiła całkowite wyleczenie RCC i kontynuację terapii PCM. Ponadto w artykule omówiono podobne przypadki opisane w literaturze
