    Reliability characteristics of power plants

    Get PDF
This paper describes the phenomenon of reliability of power plants. It gives an explanation of the terms connected with this topic as their proper understanding is important for understanding the relations and equations which model the possible real situations. The reliability phenomenon is analysed using both the exponential distribution and the Weibull distribution. The results of our analysis are specific equations giving information about the characteristics of the power plants, the mean time of operations and the probability of failure-free operation. Equations solved for the Weibull distribution respect the failures as well as the actual operating hours. Thanks to our results, we are able to create a model of dynamic reliability for prediction of future states. It can be useful for improving the current situation of the unit as well as for creating the optimal plan of maintenance and thus have an impact on the overall economics of the operation of these power plants

FireProt: web server for automated design of thermostable proteins

    Get PDF
There is a continuous interest in increasing proteins stability to enhance their usability in numerous biomedical and biotechnological applications. A number of in silico tools for the prediction of the effect of mutations on protein stability have been developed recently. However, only single-point mutations with a small effect on protein stability are typically predicted with the existing tools and have to be followed by laborious protein expression, purification, and characterization. Here, we present FireProt, a web server for the automated design of multiple-point thermostable mutant proteins that combines structural and evolutionary information in its calculation core. FireProt utilizes sixteen tools and three protein engineering strategies for making reliable protein designs. The server is complemented with interactive, easy-to-use interface that allows users to directly analyze and optionally modify designed thermostable mutants. FireProt is freely available at http://loschmidt.chemi.muni.cz/fireprot.Web of Science45W1W399W39

Shutdowns Assessment of Biomass Burned Unit

    No full text
Shutdown assessment has been performed at the biomass burned unit in the CHP plant in Pilsen. The assessment has shown a state of operated production technologies and its average availability in investigated years for a further assessment. The assessment has also identified the significant production technologies according to its availabilities. However, the paper has been mainly focused on typical shutdown causes of the biomass burned unit and how to solve it in future

Combustion of biomass in fossil power plants in the Czech republic

This paper deals with the issue of combustion of biomass in the existing fossil fuel power stations in the Czech Republic. The first parts are focused on ecological and social advantages resulting from development of renewable sources in energetic. In the next part, the influence of the state support on the combustion of biomass for generation of electric power is considered. The calculation in the last part of this paper demonstrates economic efficiency of biomass combustion in midsized source of power

Usability assessment of mathematical models of the bathtub curve

    No full text
this paper deals with the options how to model of the Bathtub Curve and how to properly estimate failure intensity during operation time of a system. Firstly, the term "Bathtub Curve" is described. The main part is connected with the demonstration of three possible models how to correctly estimate the failure intensity during operation of a system. The main aim of this paper is to assess usefulness of all investigated models for the estimation of failure intensities

The construction of power plant’s blocks with bigger output, better parameters and with higher level of automation lay higher requirements on reliability of power blocks. The results from operation show that with increasing size of blocks the reliability goes down. This decrease is manifested by higher number of blackouts. This contribution deals with problems of current state of reliability in operation
