In the present work, the finding of an ectoparasite in Lama guanicoe coprolites found in Cerro Casa de Piedra, cave 7 archaeological site CCP7 (Santa Cruz Province, Argentina) was reported. Six coprolites collected of level III from CCP7 site (3,990±80 years before present) were rehydrated and submitted to spontaneous sedimentation for microscope analysis. A vermiform mite was identified as Demodex sp., and their presence in coprolites suggests pathological manifestations of the mite on its host. This is the first Demodex record in guanacos and also in coprolites at global level.Fil: Fugassa, Martín Horacio. Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. Targeting MYC-driven lymphoma: lessons learned and future directions

    Get PDF
B-cell lymphoma; MYCLimfoma de cèl·lules b; MYCLinfoma de células b; MYCMYC plays a central role in tumorigenesis by orchestrating cell proliferation, growth and survival, among other transformation mechanisms. In particular, MYC has often been associated with lymphomagenesis. In fact, MYC overexpressing lymphomas such as high-grade B-cell lymphoma (HGBL) and double expressor diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL), are considered addicted to MYC. In such a context, MYC targeting therapies are of special interest, as MYC withdrawal is expected to result in tumor regression. However, whether high MYC levels are always predictive of increased sensitivity to these approaches is not clear yet. Even though no MYC inhibitor has received regulatory approval to date, substantial efforts have been made to investigate avenues to render MYC a druggable target. Here, we summarize the different classes of molecules currently under development, which mostly target MYC indirectly in aggressive B-cell lymphomas, paying special attention to subtypes with MYC/BCL2 or BCL6 translocations or overexpression.Research in our laboratory was supported by the Retos-Colaboración [RTC2019-007067-1] grant from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. This article presents the qualitative research focused on establishing and characterizing the relations and tensions which emerging between Language “Saber tests” (Third and Fifth grade) and the elementary school teachers’ assessment practices, using the application of a mixt questionnaire to the teachers of level of the mentioned level of education and a semistructured interview to four experts. The categories: assessment and communicative competence guide the construction of the theoretical frame, besides they are fundamental in the analysis of information made through the dimensions of educational criticism proposed by Eisner in his book: The ilustrated eye (1998). In the conclusions, the assessment is raised as a source of learning, making notice the importance of the pedagogical reflexion about the use of the tests and its results in our country.

Alcohol use and family‑related factors among Spanish university students: the unHicos project

    Get PDF
Background: During adolescence and youth there are relevant changes in the consolidation, gain or loss of consumption habits and lifestyles and the family factors has a fundamental role to development these habits. The study of the consumption of toxins, such as alcohol intake, is crucial at this stage due to the repercussions that said consumption presents in adulthood. Therefore, the objective of our study was to evaluate the associations between alcohol consumption patterns and related family factors (family functioning, family history of alcohol consumption) in Spanish university students. Methods: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, multicenter study, carried out in first-year university students from 11 Spanish universities. Through an online questionnaire, alcohol consumption (risky consumption and intensive consumption or binge drinking), family functioning and history of alcohol in the family were evaluated. Risky alcohol consumption and binge drinking were assessed using the AUDIT test, and family functioning was assessed using the family APGAR questionnaire. A descriptive analysis of the data was performed, as well as the Chi- Square test and Student’s T-Test, and non-conditional logistic regression models were carried out to examine this association. Results: The prevalence of risky alcohol consumption identified in the 10,167 respondents was 16.9% (95% CI = 16.2–17.6), and that of BD was 48.8% (95% CI = 47.9–48.8). There is a significant association between risky alcohol consumption and family functioning in students of both sexes, with greater consumption in the face of severe dysfunctional support (men OR = 1.72; p < 0.001 and women OR = 1.74; p < 0.001) and family history of consumption (p = 0.005). Regarding the binge drinking pattern, no statistically significant differences were observed. Conclusions: Risky alcohol consumption in university students is associated with dysfunctional family support, unlike the binge drinking pattern, where there is no such association. The findings of this study show the importance of creating prevention programs focused on the family approach in university students, which include alcohol screening in the population with a family history of this substance, and greater social support from health services.National Drug Plan, Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality of Spain 2010|145 2013|034 PI16/0194

Pulsed light of near-infrared and visible light wavelengths induces the accumulation of carotenoids in tomato fruits during post-treatment time

Pulsed light (PL) is proposed as a novel strategy for the food industryto enhance the antioxidant potential of fruits and vegetables for industrial uses. The main aim of this work is to evaluate the impact of postharvest PL treatmentsof different spectral ranges on the carotenoid concentration as well as qualityattributes of tomatoes during post-treatment time. Doses of wide-spectrum light(180–1100 nm), full-spectrum without ultraviolet (UV)-C wavelengths (305–1100nm),andvisible(VIS)+near-infraredlight(NIR)(400–1100nm)werecompared.Total carotenoids, lycopene, and chlorophyll contents were spectrophotomet-rically assessed just after treatments and 1, 5, and 10 days post-treatment. PLtreatments accelerated the accumulation of both total carotenoids and lycopeneconcentrations in tomato fruits. Nevertheless, the efficacy of PL depended onthe applied spectral range. Tomato subjected to VIS+NIR treatment exhibitedthe greatest enhancement in total carotenoids (31 %) and lycopene (35 %) con-tent at day 5 post-treatment and quality attributes were not affected. Conversely,UV-light exposure did not enhance carotenoid concentrations. These results evi-denced that VIS+NIR treatments induced a faster accumulation of carotenoidswithout negatively affecting tomato quality attributes.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (Spain) reference AGL2013-44851-R and Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (Spain) grant number RTI2018-095560-B-I00.
