The Process of Transition and the Capital Market in the Republic of Croatia

As a transition country, Croatia is confronted with fundamental changes in the segment of capital transactions. These changes are the result of the countryā€™s market orientation, of its position in the globalization (integration) processes, but especially of its needs. The limiting framework of a more significant development of the capital market is set by the reached level of development of the Croatian economy, by the underdevelopment of the entire financial market, by, until recently, inadequate legal regulation and, partially, by the specific tradition and conservatism in this segment. The present situation in the segment of capital transactions indicates the comprehensiveness of the changes regarding the development of the capital market, but at the same time the extreme sensitivity of this market to changes of the economic activity in the country, as well as in its surrounding, and high sensibility relating to the political decision about the initiation of negotiations with the European Union concerning the membership of Croatia in this association.financial system, capital market, transition, the European Union

Promissory Note as Payment Security Instrument in the Republic of Croatia

    Get PDF
In the modern world, a legal framework has been set up and a market regulator has been defined so that payment as a relation between the debtor and creditor can not be put in question regarding the realization of their integral rights. Countries in transition, including Croatia (the Republic of Croatia), are still trying to define not only the shortterm, but also the long-term regulators that would clarify all open questions both in the economic and in the legal segment. Promissory note as the payment security instrument has in practice become operative only through a consistent use of Distraint law. A theoretical and an implementation mechanism merge into one functional mechanism, on the basis of which it can be said that in this segment the Republic of Croatia has truly overcome the transitional barriers.promissory note, collection of claims, payment insurance, blank promissory notes, Distraint procedure, Distraint law.

THE PROSPECTS OF INTERNATIONAL ACQUISITIONS IN CAR INDUSTRY DURING THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS - THE CASE OF GEELY VOLVO

Significant technological, social and economic changes on the global level marked the beginning of the 21st century. Growing importance of Chinese economy stands out as one of the most important among these changes. Accelerated economic development of China was first based on FDI inflow and the export of low-cost less technology intensive products. However, a gradual alternation to Chinese economic policy and the growth of outward FDI followed by a global breakthrough of some Chinese companies operating in technology intensive industries (Huawei, Lenovo, Mindrey, Haier etc.) has been marked in the past few years. Further economic development of China will to a large depend on the positioning of Chinese car manufacturers. In this paper the stress will be put on high technology intensity in car industry, on its global character, high concentration within the industry and on market saturation in developed countries due to global economic crises. Basic characteristics of automotive industry and its development will be considered regarding prolonged economic crisis. Current local character of Chinese car manufacturers and its going global prospects will be observed. In order to become global players Chinese car manufacturers could implement the acquisition strategy of some key competitor from developed countries. Chinese car companies aimed at relatively small targets in the previous period because they were inexperienced in acquisitions and restructuring management and tended to decrease risks. The last and the most important is the acquisition of Swedish Volvo by Chinese Geely. These are the companies significantly differing in the level of technology, corporate and national culture, brand perception and geographic orientation of business operations. Potential risks that follow these differences as well as potential synergetic effects, supposing that the acquisition process is properly managed, will be considered in the paper

The growing trend of the urban population looks for the formation of the concept of Smart Cities, based on the principles of sustainable development, which will meet the needs of people who live in them. The city must develop its public service infrastructure to provide all the requirements for the population. One of the requirements, people living in cities is the security of public areas managed by the city. The system of video surveillance, public areas should contribute to the personal safety of citizens, children and traffic, reducing the rate of crime and more efficient operation of public services. This research aims to examine academics' opinions (perceptions) about the impact of security cameras on increasing security within the concept of Smart Cities. The research had conducted on the territory of Serbia through an online survey. The obtained data were processed statistically by Chi-square and T-test, ANOVA method, multiple regression and correlation using SPSS application. The research indicates that academics much more believe in the contribution of video surveillance, reducing the crime rate, than studies of the effectiveness of the use of video surveillance shows. Video camera monitoring accelerates the reactions of competent services, but video camera recordings have not always been accepted as evidence in court

The struggle for the dominance of competition is increasingly being transferred from physical to virtual arena, and therefore the application of new technologies is becoming an increasingly important basis for faster development, but it is becoming increasingly important weapon in the struggle for the dominance of competition in the new (digital) economy. The aforementioned trends in the foreground are even more emphasized than they were in the past years, the need to improve the protection of intellectual property, and the enhancement of the protection of trade secrets from increasingly intense industrial espionage and increasingly frequent cyber attacksIt is this trend that has been mentioned and initiated to pay special attention to the analysis of the possibilities and potential possibilities for improvement of the security and legal system of protection of sent secrets as an integral part of the intellectual propert

SMART CITY: A CONTEMPORARY CONCEPT OF URBAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Migration from rural areas to cities, beside to migration of highly educated labor, are becoming one of the most significant challenges in the contemporary urban environment. Increasingly and extensively influx of population from rural areas into cities, with climate and lifestyle changes, additionally exposed city government to challenges for optimal city functioning and sustainable urban development. These challenges as initiatives to improve the quality of life, higher efficiency and preservation of the environment, with the accelerated development of new technologies, are resulted in the emergence of the Smart City concept. The Smart City concept represents the dominant direction of urban development based on the digital transformation of the city and principles of sustainable development. At its core, the concept involves the digital transformation of the city towards achieving greater efficiency of the city administration, higher quality of life, reducing the exploitation of resources, but also reducing the negative impact on the environment. The importance of digital transformation of cities and the importance of sustainable development are initiated the authors, to present in this paper the basic determinants of the Smart City concept as integral part of the urban sustainable development strateg

Dynamic adsorption characteristics of thin layered activated charcoal materials used in chemical protective overgarments

The efficiency of a thin layered activated charcoal material used in chemical protective overgarments has been evaluated. The study has been conducted with the aim to obtain protective materials with best characteristics considering resistance to benzene effect under dynamic conditions and to create a new filtration protection device. In order to evaluate dynamic adsorption characteristics of thin layered sorption materials, sophisticated dynamic gas chromatography method is used. The curves of benzene penetration are determined for sandwich materials, and sorption layers used in filtrating protective clothing shows that thin layered carbon sorption materials (type M00) have good protective properties as compared to other similar materials. The findings will help to create conditions for developing a functional model for producing a new protective overgarment in the near future
