Holographic charge localization at brane intersections
Using gauge/gravity duality, we investigate charge localization near an
interface in a strongly coupled system. For this purpose we consider a top-down
holographic model and determine its conductivities. Our model corresponds to a
holographic interface which localizes charge around a (1+1)-dimensional defect
in a (2+1)-dimensional system. The setup consists of a D3/D5 intersection at
finite temperature and charge density. We work in the probe limit, and consider
massive embeddings of a D5-brane where the mass depends on one of the field
theory spatial directions, with a profile interpolating between a negative and
a positive value. We compute the conductivity in the direction parallel and
perpendicular to the interface. For the latter case we are able to express the
DC conductivity as a function of background horizon data. At the interface, the
DC conductivity in the parallel direction is enhanced up to five times with
respect to that in the orthogonal one. We study the implications of broken
translation invariance for the AC and DC conductivities.Comment: 36 pages, 12 figures. v2: typos corrected, JHEP versio
Three-family left-right symmetry with low-scale seesaw mechanism
We suggest a new left-right symmetric model implementing a low-scale seesaw
mechanism in which quantum consistency requires three families of fermions. The
symmetry breaking route to the Standard Model determines the profile of the
"next" expected new physics, characterized either by the simplest left-right
gauge symmetry or by the 3-3-1 scenario. The resulting gauge bosons
can be probed at the LHC and provide a production portal for the right-handed
neutrinos. On the other hand, its flavor changing interactions would affect the
K, D and B neutral meson systems.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures. Revised version as accepted by JHE
Dominated splitting and zero volume for incompressible three-flows
We prove that there exists an open and dense subset of the incompressible
3-flows of class C^2 such that, if a flow in this set has a positive volume
regular invariant subset with dominated splitting for the linear Poincar\'e
flow, then it must be an Anosov flow. With this result we are able to extend
the dichotomies of Bochi-Ma\~n\'e and of Newhouse for flows with singularities.
That is we obtain for a residual subset of the C^1 incompressible flows on
3-manifolds that: (i) either all Lyapunov exponents are zero or the flow is
Anosov, and (ii) either the flow is Anosov or else the elliptic periodic points
are dense in the manifold.Comment: 23 pages, no figure
A Model of Comprehensive Unification
Comprehensive - that is, gauge and family - unification using spinors has
many attractive features, but it has been challenged to explain chirality.
Here, by combining an orbifold construction with more traditional ideas, we
address that difficulty. Our candidate model features three chiral families and
leads to an acceptable result for quantitative unification of couplings. A
potential target for accelerator and astronomical searches emerges.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. Published versio

Efficient Computation of Multiple Density-Based Clustering Hierarchies
HDBSCAN*, a state-of-the-art density-based hierarchical clustering method,
produces a hierarchical organization of clusters in a dataset w.r.t. a
parameter mpts. While the performance of HDBSCAN* is robust w.r.t. mpts in the
sense that a small change in mpts typically leads to only a small or no change
in the clustering structure, choosing a "good" mpts value can be challenging:
depending on the data distribution, a high or low value for mpts may be more
appropriate, and certain data clusters may reveal themselves at different
values of mpts. To explore results for a range of mpts values, however, one has
to run HDBSCAN* for each value in the range independently, which is
computationally inefficient. In this paper, we propose an efficient approach to
compute all HDBSCAN* hierarchies for a range of mpts values by replacing the
graph used by HDBSCAN* with a much smaller graph that is guaranteed to contain
the required information. An extensive experimental evaluation shows that with
our approach one can obtain over one hundred hierarchies for the computational
cost equivalent to running HDBSCAN* about 2 times.Comment: A short version of this paper appears at IEEE ICDM 2017. Corrected

Paucarpata. La técnica utilizada fue la encuesta y el instrumento fue el cuestionario;
