The Perceptual Consequences of Curved Screens
Flat panels are by far the most common type of television screen. There are reasons, however, to believe that curved screens create a greater sense of immersion, reduce distracting reflections, and minimize some perceptual distortions that are commonplace with large televisions. To examine these possibilities, we calculated how curving the screen affects the field of view and the probability of seeing reflections of ambient lights. We find that screen curvature has a small beneficial effect on field of view and a large beneficial effect on the probability of seeing reflections. We also collected behavioral data to characterize perceptual distortions in various viewing configurations. We find that curved screens can in fact reduce problematic perceptual distortions on large screens, but that the benefit depends on the geometry of the projection on such screens
Can the meson cloud explain the nucleon strangeness?
We use the meson cloud model, including the kaon and the contributions,
to estimate the electric and magnetic strange form factors of the nucleon. We
compare our results with the recent measurements of the strange quark
contribution to parity-violating asymmetries in the forward G0 electron-proton
scattering experiment. We conclude that it is not possible to explain the data

A Toy Model Approach to the Canonical Non-perturbative Quantization of the Spatially Flat Robertson-Walker Spacetimes with Cosmological Constant
We present a toy model approach to the canonical non-perturbative
quantization of the spatially-flat Robertson-Walker Universes with cosmological
constant, based on the fact that such models are exactly solvable within the
framework of a simple Lagrangian formulation. The essential quantum dynamical
metric-field and the corresponding Hamiltonian, explicitly derived in terms of
annihilation and creation operators, point out that the Wheeler - DeWitt
equation is a natural (quantum) generalization of the - Einstein
equation for the classical De Sitter spacetime and selects the physical states
of the quantum De Sitter Universe. As a result of the exponential universal
expansion, the usual Fock states (defined as the eigenstates of the
number-operator) are no longer invariant under the derived Hamiltonian. They
exhibit quantum fluctuation of the energy and of the metric field which lead to

cells enable very high photovoltaic efficiencies by virtue of
employing different band gap materials in seriesconnected
tandem cells to access the full solar spectrum.
Researchers focused on improving the electrical properties
of solar cells by optimizing the material growth conditions,
however relatively little work to date has been devoted
to light trapping and enhanced absorption in III-V
compound solar cells using back reflectors. We studied
absorption enhancement in InGaAs and InGaAsP thin film
solar cells by means of numerical modeling. Flat dielectric
and metal back reflectors that might be introduced into the
solar cell via wafer-bonding, epitaxial lift-off or deposition
techniques have been shown to increase the short circuit
current and the photovoltaic efficiency of solar cells
Hierarchical Stochastic Block Model for Community Detection in Multiplex Networks
Multiplex networks have become increasingly more prevalent in many fields,
and have emerged as a powerful tool for modeling the complexity of real
networks. There is a critical need for developing inference models for
multiplex networks that can take into account potential dependencies across
different layers, particularly when the aim is community detection. We add to a
limited literature by proposing a novel and efficient Bayesian model for
community detection in multiplex networks. A key feature of our approach is the
ability to model varying communities at different network layers. In contrast,
many existing models assume the same communities for all layers. Moreover, our
model automatically picks up the necessary number of communities at each layer
(as validated by real data examples). This is appealing, since deciding the
number of communities is a challenging aspect of community detection, and
especially so in the multiplex setting, if one allows the communities to change
across layers. Borrowing ideas from hierarchical Bayesian modeling, we use a
hierarchical Dirichlet prior to model community labels across layers, allowing
dependency in their structure. Given the community labels, a stochastic block
model (SBM) is assumed for each layer. We develop an efficient slice sampler
for sampling the posterior distribution of the community labels as well as the
link probabilities between communities. In doing so, we address some unique
challenges posed by coupling the complex likelihood of SBM with the
hierarchical nature of the prior on the labels. An extensive empirical
validation is performed on simulated and real data, demonstrating the superior
performance of the model over single-layer alternatives, as well as the ability
to uncover interesting structures in real networks
The advanced receiver 2: Telemetry test results in CTA 21
Telemetry tests with the Advanced Receiver II (ARX II) in Compatibility Test Area 21 are described. The ARX II was operated in parallel with a Block-III Receiver/baseband processor assembly combination (BLK-III/BPA) and a Block III Receiver/subcarrier demodulation assembly/symbol synchronization assembly combination (BLK-III/SDA/SSA). The telemetry simulator assembly provided the test signal for all three configurations, and the symbol signal to noise ratio as well as the symbol error rates were measured and compared. Furthermore, bit error rates were also measured by the system performance test computer for all three systems. Results indicate that the ARX-II telemetry performance is comparable and sometimes superior to the BLK-III/BPA and BLK-III/SDA/SSA combinations
