A new species and new records of Downeshelea Wirth & Grogan in Neotropical Mexico (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae)

In the revision of the Ceratopogonini of the World, Wirth & Grogan (1988) placed the species of the Monohelea multilineata group in the new genus Downeshelea, which includes 33 species (Borkent, 2011), most of them known from the New World. Borkent and Spinelli (2000, 2007) listed 18 species from the Neotropical Region and Felippe-Bauer and Silva (2008) subsequently described D. oliveirai Felippe-Bauer from northern Brazil. From Mexico, only D. multilineata (Lutz) and D. panamensis (Lane & Wirth) have been reported. The study of male specimens of Downeshelea from the state of Oaxaca, Veracruz and Quintana Roo revealed the presence of an undescribed species, and the presence of D. fluminensis Felippe-Bauer that has been reported for only the type locality, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The study of additional material from Belize and Colombia revealed that the new species also is present out of Mexico. In this paper, we describe and illustrate the new species, comparing it with related species of Neotropical Downeshelea, which now includes 20 species for this biogeographical region, of which four inhabit Mexico.Fil: Huerta, Herón. Two new species of Dasyhelea Kieffer, Dasyhelea jorgei Diaz, Felippe-Bauer & Spinelli sp. nov. and Dasyhelea mineira Diaz, Felippe-Bauer & Spinelli sp. nov. are described, illustrated and photographed from Peru and Brazil respectively, based on male and female adults. These species are typical members of mutabilis species group and are compared with similar species within the group

Two new species of predaceous midges of the subgenus Eukraiohelea Ingram & Macfie of Stilobezzia Kieffer are described and illustrated: Stilobezzia (Eukraiohelea) proxima n. sp. and S. (E.) quasielegantula n. sp. The previously known New World species, Stilobezzia (E.) elegantula (Johannsen) is redescribed and illustrated. The species are illustrated through photomicrographs from adult males and females collected in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. A key to adults of the five American species of Stilobezzia (Eukraiohelea) is also provided.

Culicoides baniwa sp.nov. from the Brazilian Amazon Region with a synopsis of the hylas species group (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae)

A new species of the Culicoides (Hoffmania) hylas species group, Culicoides baniwa Felippe-Bauer is described and illustrated based on a female specimen from the state of Amazonas, Brazil. A systematic key, wing photographs, diagramme of the legs pattern, table with numerical characters of females and a synopsis of the 11 species of the C. hylas group are presented. This paper further presents a new record of Culicoides pseudoheliconiae Felippe-Bauer out of the previously defined geographic distribution of the hylas species group, in the province of Misiones, Argentina.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse
