A hybrid sampler for Poisson-Kingman mixture models

This paper concerns the introduction of a new Markov Chain Monte Carlo scheme for posterior sampling in Bayesian nonparametric mixture models with priors that belong to the general Poisson-Kingman class. We present a novel compact way of representing the infinite dimensional component of the model such that while explicitly representing this infinite component it has less memory and storage requirements than previous MCMC schemes. We describe comparative simulation results demonstrating the efficacy of the proposed MCMC algorithm against existing marginal and conditional MCMC samplers

DESAFÍOS E INCERTIDUMBRES DE CUTRAL CO Y PLAZA HUINCUL (ARGENTINA) DESPUÉS DE LA PRIVATIZACIÓN DE YACIMIENTOS PETROLIFEROS FISCALES (YPF)

RESUMENEl objetivo del trabajo es acercar algunas consideraciones sobre la situación actual del ENIM (Ente Autárquico Intermunicipal El Mangrullo) , un organismo que debía promover la reconversión de la economía de dos localidades petroleras, Cutral Co y Plaza Huincul, en Neuquén (Argentina) a partir de la explotación del yacimiento gasífero denominado El Mangrullo", transferido a los municipios de esas localidades por el gobierno neuquino -a cargo del Movimiento Popular Neuquino (MPN)-, como consecuencia de las puebladas de 1996-1997. Esta medida representó un intento de dar respuestas al problema de desempleo y la crisis de los años 1990 en esas áreas petroleras, frente a la privatización de YPF y la revocatoria de acuerdos firmados por el anterior gobierno - del mismo signo político- en el marco de la lucha facciosa en el interior del partido provincial.ABSTRACThe aim of the present work is to approach some considerations about the current situation of ENIM (Ente Autarquico Intermunicipal El Mangrullo), an organization that should promote the economy restructuring of two oil towns, viz. Cutral Co and Plaza Huincul, both located in Neuquen, Argentina. The beforementioned promotion was done through the exploitation of the oilfield known as ¨El Mangrullo¨ then transferred to the townhalls of these two towns by Neuquen goverment - in charge of Movimiento Popular Neuquino (MPN) - as a consequence of 1996 - 1997 mobs. This measure represented one more attempt of providing answers to the unemployment issue and the 1990 crisis in these oil areas, in opposition to YPF privatization and the revocation of agreements signed by the previous goverment - of the same political line - in the frame of the factious fight in the local party internal. Severe bloodstream infection due to KPC-producer e coli in a renal transplant recipient treated with the double-carbapenem regimen and analysis of in vitro synergy testing a case report

Transplant recipients are at high risk of infections caused by multidrug resistant microorganisms. Due to the limited thera- peutic options, innovative antimicrobial combinations against carbape- nem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae causing severe infections are necessary. A 61-year-old woman with a history of congenital solitary kidney underwent renal transplantation. The postoperative course was compli- cated by nosocomial pneumonia due to Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and pan-sensitive Escherichia coli, successfully treated with antimicrobial therapy. On postoperative day 22, diagnosis of surgical site infection and nosocomial pneumonia with concomitant bacteremia due to a Kle- bisella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producer E coli was made. The patient was treated with the double-carbapenem regimen (high dose of merope- nem plus ertapenem) and a potent synergistic and bactericidal activity of this un-conventional therapeutic strategy was observed in vitro. Despite a microbiological response with prompt negativity of blood cultures, the patient faced a worse outcome because of severe hemorrhagic shock. The double-carbapenem regimen might be considered as a rescue therapy in those subjects, including transplant recipients, in whom previous antimicrobial combinations failed or when colistin use might be discouraged. Performing in vitro synergy testing should be strongly encouraged in cases of infections caused by pan-drug resistant strains, especially in high-risk patients

Na avaliação sobre o potencial de mercado consumidor de produtos orgânicos em Campo Grande, MS,conclui-se que a maioria das mulheres entrevistadas afirmou conhecer o produto orgânico, porém, apenas aproximadamente a metade realmente sabe seu significado. Cerca de 52% delas pagaria mais caro por esse produto e estariam dispostas a procurar local próprio de comercialização (63,23%). Após esclarecimentos sobre os benefícios do produto orgânico, quase a totalidade (99,35%) optaria por estes produtos

Ancestral knowledge and the cosmopolitics of healing in Afro-Brazilian religions

Afro-Brazilian religions enhance various entities and territories («orishas», plants, animals, substances and humans) that constitute their modes of existence. Their ancestral knowledge mobilizes not only religious attributes, since Nature and the Cosmos erupt in their practices. We present two ethnographies, carried out between 2011 and 2020 in three «terreiros», in the states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In these modes of existence, the concept of healing goes beyond the biopsychosocial dimensions in a series of procedures (cleansing, blessings, prayers, herbal baths, teas, smoking, among others) that promote the restoration of health and well-being of these groups.As religiões afro-brasileiras potencializam diversos entes e territórios (orixás, plantas, animais, substâncias e humanos) que constituem seus modos de existência. Seu conhecimento ancestral mobiliza não apenas atributos religiosos, uma vez que a Natureza e o Cosmos irrompem nas suas práticas. Apresentamos duas etnografias, realizadas entre 2011 e 2020 junto a três terreiros, nos estados do Paraná e Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil.
