    Estudios taxon贸micos y ecol贸gicos de Monogenea y otros par谩sitos branquiales en peces de un ambiente estuarial

    Se estudi贸 la taxonom铆a y ecolog铆a de los monogeneos par谩sitos de ejemplares juveniles de Micropogonias furnieri, Mugil liza, Parapimelodus valenciennis y Odontesthes argentinensis provenientes del Canal Aliviador del Rio Salado, el cual drena sobre las aguas estuariales de la Bah铆a Samboromb贸n. Este estudio arroj贸 la presencia de una nueva especie, Demidospermus annulus par谩sita de las branquias de P. valenciennis, la cual puede diferenciarse de las restantes especies del g茅nero principalmente debido a la forma de anillo de la apertura vaginal y la articulaci贸n de la barra dorsal. En M. liza se hall贸 Ligophorus saladensis, la cual se diferencia de las restantes especies de Ligophorus, por la morfometr铆a de las piezas haptorales y de la pieza accesoria del 贸rgano copulador. En O. argentinensis se report贸 la presencia de una nueva especie de Gyrodactylus, la cual representa la primera descripci贸n formal de una especie de este g茅nero para nuestro pa铆s. Se registraron adem谩s nuevos hospedadores y se ampli贸 la distribuci贸n de Microcotyle pseudomugilis. Se propone una nueva combinaci贸n para Macrovalvitrema argentinensis n comb. Se registra adem谩s la presencia de A. bychowskyi en el 谩rea de estudio. Todas las poblaciones de monogeneos hallados presentaron distribuci贸n agregada. Los 铆ndices de competencia inter e intraespec铆fica presentaron bajos valores, por lo que no result贸 un factor que determine la estructura de las poblaciones de monogeneos en los hospedadores examinados en el 谩rea de estudio. Se hall贸 una marcada preferencia de los monogeneos por los primeros y segundos arcos branquiales. Sin embargo, se registraron diferencias en la distribuci贸n en los arcos en los hospedadores de diferentes tallas. La longitud del hospedador y por lo tanto su edad fue un factor determinante en la abundancia de los distintos monogeneos estudiados. Adicionalmente, se estudiaron las infracomunidades branquiales. Se describieron formalmente por primera vez para nuestro pa铆s 6 especies de ciliados tricodinidos, 4 en M. liza y 2 en M. furnieri, incluyendo una nueva especie. Se report贸 la presencia del ciliado Ambiphrya neobolae por primera vez para Am茅rica y se report贸 Micropogonias furnieri como un nuevo hospedador. Se registr贸 el cop茅podo Ergasilus atafonensis por primera vez para nuestro pa铆s. Se registr贸 por primera vez cop茅podos representantes del g茅nero Ergasilus en P. valenciennis y la presencia de metacercarias de Ascocotyle (Phagicola) longa en M. liza. Adicionalmente, se hallaron otros par谩sitos branquiales, tales como mixosporidios, cop茅podos y digeneos larvales en los hospedadores examinados. No se hallaron asociaciones significativas entre los parasitos estudiados ni correlaci贸n entre el n煤mero de par谩sitos branquiales y la longitud del hospedador. Excepto para el caso de P. valenciennis, la riqueza espec铆fica en el microambiente branquial no estuvo correlacionada con la longitud del hospedador. El an谩lisis de condici贸n del hospedador efectuado mediante el 铆ndice Kn no arroj贸 diferencias significativas en los ejemplares de M. furnieri para los diferentes par谩sitos ni para sus asociaciones. En P. valenciennis la presencia de Ergasilus sp. determin贸 una disminuci贸n de la condici贸n del hospedador. En M. lisa, L. saladensis produjo una disminuci贸n del factor de condici贸n, as铆 como las asociaciones de esta especie con Tricodinas, E. atafonensis y Myxobolus sp. Excepto para los monogeneos, la mayor铆a de las restantes especies reflejaron diferencias en la prevalencia en las diferentes estaciones del a帽o, evidenciando en los casos de ciclos de vida indirectos, la relaci贸n con los distintos integrantes del ciclo de vida. Se analiz贸 adem谩s, la relaci贸n de la prevalencia de los par谩sitos con diferentes par谩metros f铆sico-qu铆micos del agua en el sitio de muestreo. Finalmente, se hall贸 un bajo grado de similitud de las infracomunidades branquiales teniendo en cuenta la presencia-ausencia de especies en las estaciones del a帽o y en las diferentes longitudes del hospedador analizadas. De esta manera, las infracomunidades branquiales de M. furnieri, M. liza y P. valenciennis se caracterizaron por presentar una baja riqueza espec铆fica, donde las asociaciones entre especies ocurren de manera estoc谩stica.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

    Demidospermus annulus sp. nov. (Platyhelminthes, Monogenea, Ancyrocephalidae) is described from the gills of the catfish Parapimelodus valenciennis L眉tken collected in Samboromb贸n Bay, Argentina. Taxonomic and morphometric data for these trichodinids based on dry silver nitrate-impregnated specimens are presented. Trichodina corydori is characterized by a prominent blade apophysis, the section connecting the blade and central part is short, and the adoral ciliary spiral makes a turn of 370-380掳. Trichodina jenynsii is characterized by curved blades and prominentlyshaped denticle rays that are characteristically extremely long, tapering to thin sharp points in adult specimens.     New host, geographical records, and some ecological aspect of Absonifibula bychowskyi lawler et overstreet, 1976 (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) from estuarine areas of Argentina

    Background. Monogenean parasites from mixohaline areas of the South Atlantic coast of Argentina are very poorly reported. The aim of this paper is report a new host and locality for Absonifibula bychowskyi, a monogenean confined to fish living in estuarine areas. Some ecological considerations about the host-parasite relationship are also discussed. Materials and Methods. Parasites collected from whitemouth croaker, Micropogonias furnieri (Desmarest, 1823) (Actinopterygii: Sciaenidae), were studied from fixed- and live specimens, with standard procedures used in parasitology. Prevalence, mean intensity, and abundance of parasites were calculated and related to the host body size. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was calculated to determine possible correlations between host length, parasite intensity, and prevalence. Results. Absonifibula bychowskyi (Monogenea: Diclidophoridae) Lawler et Overstreet, 1976 is reported for the first time from the gills of whitemouth croaker, at the Samboromb贸n Bay, a mixohaline area in the Buenos Aires Province, Southwest Atlantic Ocean. The parasite was found only in juveniles of M. furnieri that use the Samboromb贸n Bay as the main estuarine nursery ground area. When the croaker migrated seawards, A. bychowskyi disappeared from the gills may be related to the increased salinity. Conclusions. This is the first record for Absonifibula bychowskyi in the Southwest Atlantic and M. furnieri. (It constitutes a new host record.) The presence of A. bychowskyi in M. furnieri could be indicative of the origin of the fish.Centro de Estudios Parasitol贸gicos y de Vectore

    Myxobolus saladensis sp. nov., a new species of gill parasite of Mugil liza (Osteichthyes, Mugilidae) from Samborombon Bay, Buenos Aires, Argentina

    Myxosporean Myxobolus saladensis sp. nov. in the gills ofMugil liza Valenciennes, 1836 from Samboromb贸n Bay was described by light and electron microscopy studies. Spores were pyriform and binucleated, measuring 10.63卤0.36 pm (n=20) long, 9.24卤0.50 pm (n=20) wide and 4.13卤0.36 pm (n=20) thick, included in polysporic cyst-like plasmodia. Elongated pyriform polar capsules were of equal size (3.84卤0.27 pm long and 2.30卤0.12 pm wide). The sporoplasm contained some sporoplasmosomes. Each PC contained a polar filament with 4-5 coils obliquely arranged in relation to the polar capsules axis. The PC wall was composed of two layers of different electron densities.
