Uterine myomas may resemble uterine sarcomas in some cases. However, the rate of benign myomas appearing as sarcomas at an ultrasound examination is not known. The objective of this study is to determine the percentage of benign myomas that appear suspicious for uterine sarcoma on ultrasound examination. This is a prospective observational multicenter study (June 2019-December 2021) comprising a consecutive series of patients with histologically proven uterine myoma after hysterectomy or myomectomy who underwent transvaginal and/or transabdominal ultrasound prior to surgery. All ultrasound examinations were performed by expert examiners. MUSA criteria were used to describe the lesions (1). Suspicion of sarcoma was established when three or more sonographic features, described by Ludovisi et al. as "frequently seen in uterine sarcoma", were present (2). These features are no visible myometrium, irregular cystic areas, non-uniform echogenicity, irregular contour, "cooked" appearance, and a Doppler color score of 3-4. In addition, the examiners had to classify the lesion as suspicious based on her/his impression, independent of the number of features present. Eight hundred and ten women were included. The median maximum diameter of the myomas was 58.7 mm (range: 10.0-263.0 mm). Three hundred and forty-nine (43.1%) of the patients had more than one myoma. Using the criterion of >3 suspicious features, 40 (4.9%) of the myomas had suspicious appearance. By subjective impression, the examiners considered 40 (4.9%) cases suspicious. The cases were not exactly the same. We conclude that approximately 5% of benign uterine myomas may exhibit sonographic suspicion of sarcoma. Although it is a small percentage, it is not negligible

Conservation strategies for endangered arable plant Euphorbia gaditana

Fragmentation and habitat loss are considered among the most important threats to biodiversity. More precisely, transformation of natural habitats into farmlands has been identified as one of the primary causes of plant species extinction. Therefore, understanding the effects of habitat fragmentation is crucial to the successful conservation of threatened species. Metapopulation modeling is one of the prospective tools used in conservation biology to evaluate long-term survival in fragmented landscapes. In this work, we applied a metapopulation approach to the conservation of the rare plant Euphorbia gaditana Coss., an endangered species growing on the margins of crops in southern Spain. The species is threatened due to herbicide application and intensification of cultivation, which results in a highly patchy distribution, with more than 50 patches of habitat across three separate networks of patches. We used IFM (Incidence Function Modeling) to compare the relative effectiveness of four conservation management scenarios and the effect of three threat scenarios on the risk of extinction of the species. The results of our simulations of population dynamics under plausible management scenarios will aid conservation decision-making, for example, allowing priority conservation areas to be identified or assessing the effect of future reintroductions

The work of city councilors, as they participate in the budget process, is involved in a series of problems that are specific to them. And this affects the community they represent if they are unable to overcome these issues. The councillors carry out their work as long as it is relatively regulated by the regulations in force. The frequent situations they encounter indicate that there is a gap between the real issues they deal with and the rules. The objective is focused on identifying the existence of the gap between both circumstances and its effects on the work of the councilors in office in the Carboniferous Basin. Therefore, our main question is: is there a gap between the regulations and the actual work done by councilors when they are in the process of approving the budget that comes from the municipal executive branch? We understand that this affects the decision making of the main work tool that affects both populations. To address this question we used a questionnaire addressed to the councilmen who are no longer in office, consisting of six axes of questioning.  In this way, we gained access to their personal experiences and the different visions and ways of approaching the issue. The answers led to situations in which problems derived mainly from political, informational, resource and personal preparation for the positions of councilors predominated. Considering this, the situation of the existence of the gap is demonstrated and the next step will be to establish whether the councilors and the community accept and maintain these peculiarities for the budget. The next lines of research will be related to the possible changes to be introduced in the process at the practical and normative level.
