Polymer Shape Anisotropy and the Depletion Interaction
We calculate the second and third virial coefficients of the effective
sphere-sphere interaction due to polymer depletion. By utilizing the anisotropy
of a typical polymer conformation, we can consider polymers that are roughly
the same size as the spherical inclusions. We argue that recent experiments can
confirm this anisotropy.Comment: 4 pages, 4 eps figures, RevTe
Modelling Urban Housing Stocks for Building Energy Simulation using CityGML EnergyADE
Understanding the energy demand of a city’s housing stock is an important focus for local and national administrations to identify strategies for reducing carbon emissions. Building energy simulation offers a promising approach to understand energy use and test plans to improve the efficiency of residential properties. As part of this, models of the urban stock must be created that accurately reflect its size, shape and composition. However, substantial effort is required in order to generate detailed urban scenes with the appropriate level of attribution suitable for spatially explicit simulation of large areas. Furthermore, the computational complexity of microsimulation of building energy necessitates consideration of approaches that reduce this processing overhead. We present a workflow to automatically generate 2.5D urban scenes for residential building energy simulation from UK mapping datasets. We describe modelling the geometry, the assignment of energy characteristics based upon a statistical model and adopt the CityGML EnergyADE schema which forms an important new and open standard for defining energy model information at the city-scale. We then demonstrate use of the resulting urban scenes for estimating heating demand using a spatially explicit building energy microsimulation tool, called CitySim+, and evaluate the effects of an off-the-shelf geometric simplification routine to reduce simulation computational complexity
Resolution of dark matter problem in f(T) gravity
In this paper, we attempt to resolve the dark matter problem in f(T) gravity.
Specifically, from our model we successfully obtain the flat rotation curves of
galaxies containing dark matter. Further, we obtain the density profile of dark
matter in galaxies. Comparison of our analytical results shows that our
torsion-based toy model for dark matter is in good agreement with empirical
data-based models. It shows that we can address the dark matter as an effect of
torsion of the space.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
Low temperature electronic properties of Sr_2RuO_4 I: Microscopic model and normal state properties
Starting from the quasi one-dimensional kinetic energy of the d_{yz} and
d_{zx} bands we derive a bosonized description of the correlated electron
system in Sr_2RuO_4. At intermediate coupling the magnetic correlations have a
quasi one-dimensional component along the diagonals of the basal plane of the
tetragonal unit cell that accounts for the observed neutron scattering results.
Together with two-dimensional correlations the model consistently accounts for
the normal phase specific heat, cyclotron mass enhancement, static
susceptibility, and Wilson ratio and implies an anomalous high temperature
resistivity.Comment: 12 pages REVTEX, 6 figure
Couplings of light I=0 scalar mesons to simple operators in the complex plane
The flavour and glue structure of the light scalar mesons in QCD are probed
by studying the couplings of the I=0 mesons and to the
operators , and to two photons. The Roy dispersive
representation for the amplitude is used to determine the
pole positions as well as the residues in the complex plane. On the real axis,
is constrained to solve the Roy equation together with elastic
unitarity up to the K\Kbar threshold leading to an improved description of
the . The problem of using a two-particle threshold as a matching
point is discussed. A simple relation is established between the coupling of a
scalar meson to an operator and the value of the related pion form-factor
computed at the resonance pole. Pion scalar form-factors as well as two-photon
partial-wave amplitudes are expressed as coupled-channel Omn\`es dispersive
representations. Subtraction constants are constrained by chiral symmetry and
experimental data. Comparison of our results for the couplings with
earlier determinations of the analogous couplings of the lightest I=1 and
scalar mesons are compatible with an assignment of the ,
, , into a nonet. Concerning the gluonic operator
we find a significant coupling to both the and the

The evolution of microstructure and electrical performance in doped Mn-Co and Cu-Mn oxide layers with the extended oxidation time
Mn-Co and Cu-Mn based alloy coatings are deposited on 430 SS by high energy micro-arc alloying process, and then alloy coatings are oxidized at 750 ℃ in air to form the spinel oxides. Some composite oxides, such as Co3O4, Mn2O3 and (Mn,Co)3O4, are formed at the initial stage of oxidation. The single-phase spinel (pure MnCo2O4) without impurity phases is only found on the surface of Co-33Mn-17Cu oxide layer with the extended oxidation time, its area-specific resistance values at 500 ℃ to 800 ℃ are low and close to that of Mn-35Cu oxide layer which mainly composed of Cu1.2Mn1.8O4 spinel
