The Origins of Bibliographic Control of cartographic resources

The librarian interest in the preservation and cataloguing of cartographic resources is an old topic, but the widespread awareness within the library profession belongs to the post-World War II period. For a very long time, in fact, these resources were not subjected to adequate bibliographic control. The reasons for this delay are many: the lack of awareness of these resources by the library community, the tendency to consider them an "inferior" category compared to traditional library resources and the difficulty in defining a common description model both at national and international level. It is only since the middle of the 20th century that the urgency of dealing with this heritage of extraordinary documentary value has been felt. Since then, much has been done both in terms of the census of these resources and the definition of guidelines within international standards, but much remains to be done

Modulation of the postural effects of cognitive load by hypnotizability

Aim of the experiment was to study whether cognitive load aVects postural control more in low (Lows) than in highly hypnotizable (Highs) subjects due to the latter\u27s greater attentional abilities. Standing Highs and Lows underwent an experimental session (closed eyes) consisting of a basal condition and of mental computation in an easy (stable support) and a diYcult (unstable support) postural condition. Variability [standard deviation (SD)] and complexity [sample entropy (SampEn)] of the movement of the centre of pressure (CoP), its mean velocity (Velocity), the area swept by the CoP (Area) and the ratio between the CoP trajectory length and area [length for surface (LFS)] were measured. Few hypnotizability-related diVerences were detected (reduction in the Highs\u27 SD and increases in the Lows\u27 LFS in the diYcult postural condition). Thus, the hypnotizability-related postural diVerences observed in previous studies during sensory alteration could not be accounted mainly by attentional abilities

L'Archivistica della Classificazione Decimale Dewey

This paper regards the ways archival discipline is treated in DDC. After a short introduction about the discipline in Italy, the essay focuses on the analysis of division 020 of DDC 23, with specific attention to section 025 and with punctual reference to section 651, concerning archival material. The aim of the paper is to point out archival discipline’s peculiarities and its differences from library science, as well as underlining the critical issues on how this discipline is handled in DDC.Questo articolo affronta la tematica della trattazione dell'Archivistica nella Classificazione Decimale Dewey. Dopo una breve introduzione sulla disciplina in Italia, il contributo si focalizza sull'analisi della classe 20 della ventitreeesima edizione della CDD, con un'attenzione particolare alla sezione 025 e con riferimento specifico alla sezione 651, che riguardano il materiale archivistico. Obiettivo dell'articolo è quello di determinare le peculiarità dell'Archivistica e le sue sostanziali differenze dalla Biblioteconomia, oltre a voler sottolineare le criticità nella trattazione dell'Archivistica nella CDD
