On convergence in endogenous growth models
In this paper we analyze the rate of convergence to a balanced path in a class of endogenous growth models with physical and human capital. We show that such rate depends locally on the technological parameters of the model. but does not depend on those parameters related to preferences. These results stand in sharp contrast with those of the one-sector neoclassical growth model where both preferences and technologies determine the speed of convergence toward a steady state

Selection of the Informative Base in ARMA-GARCH Models
In this paper we consider the selection of the information set in ARMA-GARCH models using the methodology proposed in Muñoz et al. (2001) based on ideas of Phillips (1996). To that end, we analyse the performance of some selection criteria asymptotically equivalent to the Bayes factor and propose a method to build approximated Bayesian forecast intervals.ARMA, GARCH, Prediction , Model Selection, Information Set Selection
Towards Automatic Learning of Heuristics for Mechanical Transformations of Procedural Code
The current trend in next-generation exascale systems goes towards
integrating a wide range of specialized (co-)processors into traditional
supercomputers. However, the integration of different specialized devices
increases the degree of heterogeneity and the complexity in programming such
type of systems. Due to the efficiency of heterogeneous systems in terms of
Watt and FLOPS per surface unit, opening the access of heterogeneous platforms
to a wider range of users is an important problem to be tackled. In order to
bridge the gap between heterogeneous systems and programmers, in this paper we
propose a machine learning-based approach to learn heuristics for defining
transformation strategies of a program transformation system. Our approach
proposes a novel combination of reinforcement learning and classification
methods to efficiently tackle the problems inherent to this type of systems.
Preliminary results demonstrate the suitability of the approach for easing the
programmability of heterogeneous systems.Comment: Part of the Program Transformation for Programmability in

Governmental Context Determines Institutional Value: Independently Certified Performance and Failure in the Spanish Newspaper Industry.
Many societies demand that independent professionals (e.g. auditors) certify the performance of firms. The value placed on such certification (i.e. the public perception of reliability/unreliability that may impact on an organization's success/failure) is not uniform, however, but contingent upon changing political contexts. This study presents and analyses data on the entire population of newspapers in Spain from 1966 to 1993, a time of peaceful transition from military dictatorship to capitalist democracy. Our results highlight the contingent nature of institutional life, demonstrating how changes in political contexts are associated with varying understandings of institutions. In particular, our findings support the prediction that, under a dictatorship, independently certified performance is not instrumental in organizational success or failure whereas, in a modern democracy, the certification process has a positive effect on the survival chances of firms.independently certified performance; institutional sociology; political regimes; newspaper organizations; organizational failure; Spain;
La pau mundial en el pensament de Kant
Few people have left such an important and impressive mark on the development of Western
thought as the philosopher Immanuel Kant, the bicentennial of whose death has been just celebrated.
Through his writings and reflections, the Königsberg professor established the ethical and political foundations
of a society which, moving away from any kind of despotic absolutism, needed to find a rational
explanation for the contemporary world. His writings on the reflection and construction of peace brilliantly
expounded his teachings on the pacific coexistence both between peoples and free States
