    Power Factor Corrector Design applied to an 85-kHz Wireless Charger

    Wireless charging technology extends the battery autonomy by allowing more flexible and practical ways of recharging it even when the electric vehicle is on move. The frequency conversion, which is required to generate a kHz-ranged magnetic field, also leads to considerable harmonics. As a result, the power factor and the corresponding efficiency decrement. This paper proposes a Power Factor Corrector which overcomes this drawback. The most relevant feature of the designed Power Factor Corrector is that it does not need any electrical signal from the secondary side to adjust its operation properly. The simulation results show the ability of the proposed scheme to increment the system efficiency for different State-Of-Charge in the Battery.Universidad de Málaga.     Lineability criteria, with applications

    Lineability is a property enjoyed by some subsets within a vector space X. A subset A of X is called lineable whenever A contains, except for zero, an infinite dimensional vector subspace. If, additionally, X is endowed with richer structures, then the more stringent notions of dense-lineability, maximal dense-lineability and spaceability arise naturally. In this paper, several lineability criteria are provided and applied to specific topological vector spaces, mainly function spaces. Sometimes, such criteria furnish unified proofs of a number of scattered results in the related literature. Families of strict-order integrable functions, hypercyclic vectors, non-extendable holomorphic mappings, Riemann non-Lebesgue integrable functions, sequences not satisfying the Lebesgue dominated convergence theorem, nowhere analytic functions, bounded variation functions, entire functions with fast growth and Peano curves, among others, are analyzed from the point of view of lineability.Plan Andaluz de Investigación (Junta de Andalucía)Ministerio de Economía y Competitivida

    Emotions Detection based on a Single-electrode EEG Device

    The study of emotions using multiple channels of EEG represents a widespread practice in the field of research related to brain computer interfaces (Brain Computer Interfaces). To date, few studies have been reported in the literature with a reduced number of channels, which when used in the detection of emotions present results that are less accurate than the rest. To detect emotions using an EEG channel and the data obtained is useful for classifying emotions with an accuracy comparable to studies in which there is a high number of channels, is of particular interest in this research framework. This article uses the Neurosky Maindwave device; which has a single electrode to acquire the EEG signal, Matlab software and IBM SPSS Modeler; which process and classify the signals respectively. The accuracy obtained in the detection of emotions in relation to the economic resources of the hardware dedicated to the acquisition of EEG signal is remarkable

    Total replacement of recycled aggregate and treated wastewater: concrete recycling in extremis

    Million tons of construction and demolition waste (CDW) are generated every year around the world, and most of them are not adequately disposed, generating significant pollution on water, soil and air. Additionally, the use of freshwater in industrial processes, such as the production of cement, concrete manufacturing and curing for newly-built structures; has damaged the health of our freshwater ecosystems, reducing their volume and hindering their natural cycle of renovation. Therefore, the incorporation of recycled aggregate (RA) and treated wastewater (TW) as substitutes for the usual aggregates (UA) and freshwater, could generate significant environmental benefits. In this research, a comparative analysis of the experimental results of the properties of fresh and hardened concrete with different replacement percentage of UA for RA, is presented; and as an innovation the use TW. The results show that, regardless of the replacement percentage and use of treated wastewater, a concrete with RA and TW (recycled concrete in extremis, CRiE) had a satisfactory and acceptable or equivalent performance, not differing significantly from the performance of conventional concrete (CC), confirming that the use of RA for concrete building is feasible.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    El objetivo es conocer el perfil del estudiante de nuevo ingreso del Grado de Pedagogía (Universidad de La Laguna), así como sus conocimientos, usos y actitudes hacia el medio informático. Permitirá establecer objetivos reales en la metodología docente de la asignatura de Iniciación a la Economía de la Educación. Se cumplimentaron 272 cuestionarios. Se aplicó un análisis multivariante ALSCAL para determinar el grado de similitud entre el perfil del estudiante y el uso del ordenador. Un resultado destacado es el que asocia formación informática con diversificación del uso del ordenadorThe present work aims to know the students, in first year of the Degree of Pedagogy (University of La Laguna), knowledge profile, practices and attitudes toward computer media. This will allow to establish realistic teaching methodology in the course Introduction to Economics of Education. 272 questionnaires were completed. We applied an ALSCAL multivariate analysis in order to determine the degree of similarity between student profile and computer usage.     Augmented and Alternative Communication System Based on Dasher Application and an Accelerometer

    This paper describes a system composed by predictive text input software called “Dasher” and a hardware used to connect an accelerometer to the computer. The main goal of this work is to allow people with motor disabilities to have a flexible and cheap way to communicate. The accelerometer can be placed on any body part depending on user preferences. For this reason calibration functionality has been added to dasher software. The calibration process is easy and requires only some minutes but it is necessary in order to allow system can be used in different ways. Tests have been carried out by placing the accelerometer on the head. A rate of 26 words per minute is reached.Junta de Andalucía p08-TIC-363

    Loot box engagement: A scoping review of primary studies on prevalence and association with problematic gaming and gambling

    Sixteen primary empirical studies met the inclusion criteria for this review. All studies used cross-sectional designs, and most used convenience samples. Twelve study samples were comprised exclusively of gamers, and two were comprised of gamers and/or gamblers. Only six studies included adolescents. The annual prevalence rate of loot box purchases was higher for adult gamers than for adolescents (22.7%-44.2% and 20%-33.9%, respectively), but in studies with general population samples, the opposite was true (24.9% for players aged 13-14 versus 7.8% for adults). In general, the studies suggested a significant positive relationship between engagement with loot boxes and problematic gaming and gambling, but this may be related to the type of engagement (open/purchase/sell), and the characteristics of the study participants (male/female, adolescents/adults, gamers/gamers-gamblers/general population). Conclusions This scoping review summarizes the results of recent empirical studies on engagement with loot boxes and discusses how methodological issues may affect their results and interpretation.     A Sociological Perspective on Religious Identification in Spain: A Multidimensional Analysis Based on Empirical Data (Over 467,187 Individuals)

    This paper explores patterns of religious identification in Spanish society, focusing particularly on the predominant religion, Catholicism, which constitutes 97% of the religious population. Over time, a declining trend in religious beliefs has been observed: in 2000, 80% of Spaniards identified as religious, a figure that decreased to 75% a decade ago, and further dropped to 59.5% in 2022. Simultaneously, the process of secularization has increased, impacting approximately 40% of the Spanish population. Non-believers are not a homogeneous group; rather, they constitute heterogeneous subgroups. Males tend to exhibit lower levels of religiosity than females, and the youth are less religious than the elderly. Additionally, individuals with higher education show lower levels of religiosity than those with lower education and left-leaning individuals tend to be less religious than their right-leaning counterparts. This article investigates and analyzes the profiles of religious identification in Spanish society, utilizing a comprehensive database that amalgamates 144 datasets from the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS), spanning from January 2013 to December 2023. The dataset comprises responses from 467,187 Spanish adults aged 18 and above. This extensive dataset enables a multidimensional descriptive analysis of secularization/religiosity based on respondents’ demographic characteristics and ideological positions, functioning as a meta-analysis with secondary data.
