    Piperazinediium bis(2-carboxypyridine-3-carboxylate)

    Get PDF
The asymmetric unit of the title salt, C4H12N2 2+·2C7H4NO4 − or pipzH2 2+·2(py-2,3-dcH−), prepared by a reaction between pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (py-2,3-dcH2) and piperazine (pipz), contains a monoanion and half of a centrosymmetric dication. The anionic fragment individually has two intramolecular hydrogen bonds, an almost linear O—H⋯O bond between two carboxylate groups and a C—H⋯O bond between the aromatic ring and carboxylate group. Other O—H⋯O, N—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds are responsible for three-dimensional expansion of the structure

A Proposed Model For Strategic Planning In Educational Organizations

    Get PDF
AbstractThis paper is proposing a comprehensive framework in order to formulate strategy in Educational organizations. This approach is based on Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) Education Criteria for selecting competitive strategies. In this method, firstly, by using SWOT matrix, we have formulated initial strategies of the organization. After that, we have allocated these strategies to four BSC perspectives. Then making use of these strategies in the House Of Quality (HOQ) as “Whats/alternatives”, we subsequently considered MBNQA Education Criteria with the role of “Hows/criteria” in the HOQ as a criteria for selection of strategies. Finally we performed screening and selection of initial strategies by using fuzzy screening technique. A case study is utilized to show the efficiency of the proposed model

An Unusual Presentation of Subglottic Stenosis Necessitating Urgent Tracheostomy

    Get PDF
By definition, the subglottis is the area of the larynx immediately below the vocal folds extending to the level of the inferior border of the cricoid cartilage. This area represents the narrowest portion of the pediatric airway and is the most common site of iatrogenic stenosis. This stenosis is generally secondary to increased rates of intubation in infants of prematurity. Evaluation and treatment for subglottic stenosis represents one of the most common airway consultations within pediatric otolaryngology. Goals of therapy include securing a safe airway and restoring subglottic patency. In this clinical case, we present a unique pattern and presentation of subglottic stenosis requiring urgent tracheostomy

The title salt, C10H10N2 2+·2C7H4NO4 − or (4,4′-bpyH2)(py-2,3-dcH)2, prepared by the reaction between pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (py-2,3-dcH2) and 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bpy), consists of two anions and one centrosymmetric dication. In the crystal, there are two strong O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the two carboxylate groups, with an O⋯O distance of 2.478 (1) Å, and an N—H⋯N hydrogen bond between the anion and cation, with an N⋯N distance of 2.743 (1) Å. These interactions, along with other O—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, π–π stacking [centroid–centroid distances 3.621 (7) and 3.612 (7) Å] and ion pairing, lead to the formation of the three-dimensional structure

The title polymeric compound, [Cd(C7H3NO4)(H2O)3]n or [Cd(py-2,3-dc)(H2O)3]n, where py-2,3-dcH2 is pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid, was obtained by the reaction of cadmium(II) nitrate hexahydrate with (pipzH2)(py-2,3-dc) as a proton-transfer compound in aqueous solution (pipz is piperazine). The molecular structure shows that only the anionic fragment of the starting proton-transfer compound is present in the complex, while the (pipzH2)2+ dication has been lost. Each (py-2,3-dc)2− ligand bridges two CdII atoms in two different coordination modes, i.e. one end acts as a monodentate and the other end as a bidentate ligand. The three remaining coordination sites on the metal center are occupied by water molecules. The geometric arrangement of the six donor atoms around the CdII atom is distorted octahedral. In the crystal structure, O—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds play an important role in stabilizing the supramolecular structure

An Interesting Secondary Airway Lesion in an Infant With Laryngomalacia

A 2-month-old male with a prior diagnosis of laryngomalacia (LM) presented to the emergency department in respiratory distress with worsening inspiratory stridor, suprasternal retractions, and a dry cough. A chest X-ray and lateral neck radiograph were performed and demonstrated no abnormalities. Flexible laryngoscopy revealed the same, previously observed moderately prolapsed arytenoids and an omega-shaped epiglottis with shortened aryepiglottic (AE) folds. He also had a right lower neck mass. He was scheduled for a direct laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy (DLB) and supraglottoplasty. During the DLB, LM and anterior compression of the midtrachea was noted. Lysis of the AE folds was performed in cold-steel fashion, and the infant was then taken for further imaging

Street's physical geometry and the cooling effect of waterbody of urban micro-climate in tropical region

The thesis addresses the contributions of urban geometry under tropical climate in the Melaka city, Malaysia and their benefits toward optimum cooling effect of water body modification. The aim is to examine quantitatively the potential of the cooling effect from combination of water bodies and street geometries with the development of comfortable microclimate conditions at street level in the city environment. Main methodologies phases which is field measurement were conducted and computer simulations were developed in order to achieve the aim and objectives of study. Environmental Visual Image Microclimate software (ENVI-met Ver. 4.0) was used to predict the impact of modification according to the proposed hypothetical urban geometries were simulated with various street aspect ratio (building’s height / street’s width) where the ratio is equal to 1, more than 1, and less than 1, and river width equal to 18, 36, and 54 meters. The proposed urban settings in Melaka city that resulted from the combination of the various streets and river width were modelled on four different orientations, North-South, East-West, Northeast-Southwest and Northwest-Southeast, while a total of 36 different urban geometries were evaluated. The model was successfully validated through the correlation of measured experiments and computer simulation which reliable enough to present the actual urban microclimate condition of Melaka river area. The outdoor thermal comfort was assessed based on the Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) as reference to evaluate modification benefits towards outdoor comfort level. It is revealed that the existing variation in temperature between the different urban locations in the Melaka river area was due to the influence of their street geometrical characteristics. Overall, the improvements of thermal comfort via the addition of water bodies is very minimal when compared to the improvements brought by aspect ratios. The highly humid climate in Malaysia and the low wind speed conditions is the reason for this occurrence. The conclusions point out besides the necessity of street geometry, water body cooling effects can be implemented as additional guide lines in urban design to keep the external microclimate conditions in comfort range
