RF transversal filter using an AOTF

    Get PDF
An acoustooptic tunable filter (AOTF) is employed in an optical system to obtain an independently tunable and reconfigurable radio-frequency transversal filter. Manipulating only the control signals of the AOTF modifies the transfer function of the filter. This letter demonstrates the experimental implementation of a two-tap version of the proposed filter. Avenues for increasing the number of taps are discussed

Inclusions and Exclusions in the Narratives of War: Gulf Arabic Press Coverage of Russia-Ukraine Conflict

    Get PDF
Domestic policies of nation-states as well as trends in media development have further consolidated the role of mainstream media in shaping social and political processes related to international conflicts. Deregulation of the media landscape in Gulf countries has seen the side-by-side existence of both government and private media. In the current Russia-Ukraine conflict, the mass media are significantly shaping citizens’ perceptions and understanding within Gulf countries. Similarly, the kind of information disseminated by the media on the conflict plays a role in shaping the behavior of social and political structures within nation-states. While the media alone do not determine government policies, they do shape the circumstances in which policy-making takes place. The media plays a substantial role in setting the agenda for national discourse, which guides policymakers in arriving at certain actions or responses. This study explores the characteristics and trends in the coverage of the Russia-Ukraine conflict among Arabic newspapers in the Gulf countries. The intention of this study is to gain insight into factors influencing the war narratives by different national newspapers in the Gulf region, and how these could shape national responses to the conflict. Furthermore, this study identifies different features of war narratives, the inclusions and exclusions of women in framing news about the conflict, and factors that shape such frames

Weyl holographic superconductor in the Lifshitz black hole background

    Get PDF
We investigate analytically the properties of the Weyl holographic superconductor in the Lifshitz black hole background. We find that the critical temperature of the Weyl superconductor decreases with increasing Lifshitz dynamical exponent, zz, indicating that condensation becomes difficult. In addition, it is found that the critical temperature and condensation operator could be affected by applying the Weyl coupling, γ\gamma. Moreover, we compute the critical magnetic field and investigate its dependence on the parameters γ\gamma and zz. Finally, we show numerically that the Weyl coupling parameter γ\gamma and the Lifshitz dynamical exponent zz together control the size and strength of the conductivity peak and the ratio of gap frequency over critical temperature ωg/Tc\omega_{g}/T_{c}.Comment: 25 pages, 22 figure

Role of Mas receptor antagonist (A779) in renal hemodynamics in condition of blocked angiotensin II receptors in rats

The vasodilatory effect of angiotensin 1–7 (Ang 1-7) is exerted in the vascular bed via Mas receptor (MasR) gender dependently. However, the crosstalk between MasR and angiotensin II (Ang II) types 1 and 2 receptors (AT1R and AT2R) may change some actions of Ang 1-7 in renal circulation. In this study by blocking AT1R and AT2R, the role of MasR in kidney hemodynamics was described. In anaesthetized male and female Wistar rats, the effects of saline as vehicle and MasR blockade (A779) were tested on mean arterial pressure (MAP), renal perfusion pressure (RPP), renal blood flow (RBF), and renal vascular resistance (RVR) when both AT1R and AT2R were blocked by losartan and PD123319, respectively. In male rats, when AT1R and AT2R were blocked, there was a tendency for the increase in RBF/wet kidney tissue weight (RBF/KW) to be elevated by A779 as compared with the vehicle (P=0.08), and this was not the case in female rats. The impact of MasR on renal hemodynamics appears not to be sexual dimorphism either when Ang II receptors were blocked. It seems that co-blockade of all AT1R, AT2R, and MasR may alter RBF/ KW in male more than in female rats. These findings support a crosstalk between MasR and Ang II receptors in renal circulation

Background: Coccidiosis of domestic fowl, caused by species of the Genus Eimeria, is responsible for important economic losses in poultry production. Because different species and/or strains can vary in pathogenicity and other biological parameters, their precise characterization is important for epizootiological studies. Methods: Fifty samples from litter, whole intestinal tract and feces were collected from poultry houses located in different provinces of Iran. One hundred twenty male day-old broiler chicks were challenged with three selected isolates. Data on weight gain, Food Conversion Ratio (FCR), food intake, lesion scoring and shedding of oocysts per gram of feces were recorded and analyzed by the Duncan's test. Results: In all treatments, the challenged groups had statistically significant lower weight gain than that of unchallenged control group. Isolate three caused the lowest weight gain and food intake and the worst lesion score as well as FCR. Despite originating from close geographical regions for isolates 1 and 2, the difference in biopathologic factors may be either due to different proportion of identified species or the different pathogenicity of the species present in the isolates. Conclusion: The results highlight the importance of considering various species of Eimeria in designing the preventive, control and treatment strategies to prevent coccidiosis in different regions of Iran. Further characterization of each isolate would be the next step to provide a basis for coccidiosis research with well-characterized local isolates

In this new economy, mobility of knowledge employees has become a major concern of the business organizations since organizations may lose the competitive advantage due to the shortness of talent. Thus, the purpose of this research is to assess the determinants of leadership styles on organizational culture towards organization performance in Abu Dhabi Public Sector. A total of 398 respondents were selected for the data analysis, where the ultimate step of data analysis is the employing appropriate analytical methods to understand and interpret the data collected. Prior to Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was conducted to check the hypothesis relationships of the variables to verify its factor structure. The findings of this study revealed that, strategic leadership style is positively related to organizational culture. Besides, laissez-faire leadership style is positively related to organizational culture, as well as autocratic leadership style is positively related to organizational culture. Result also indicated that, participative leadership style is positively related to organizational culture; transactional leadership style is positively related to organizational culture, transformational leadership style is positively related to organizational culture. Interestingly, the organizational culture is positively related to organization performance. Result also revealed that, strategic leadership style is positively related to organization performance; laissez-faire leadership style is positively related to organization performance. In addition, autocratic leadership style is positively related to organization performance; participative leadership style is positively related to organization performance. Then, transactional leadership style is positively related to organization performance. At the same time, transformational leadership style is positively related to organization performance. Besides that, it is also found that age is not related to organization performance, same goes to education. So, this research opens up some meticulous findings which will enhance the future research on the similar field.  Article visualizations

Genetic variation in the ABCB1 gene may lead to mRNA level change: Application to gastric cancer cases

    No full text
Background: One of the major mechanisms for drug resistance is associated with altered anticancer drug transport, mediated by the human-adenosine triphosphate binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily proteins. The overexpression of adenosine triphosphate binding cassette, sub-family B, member 1 (ABCB1) by multidrug-resistant cancer cells is a serious impediment to chemotherapy. In our study we have studied the possibility that structural single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) are the mechanism of ABCB1 overexpression. Materials and Methods: A total of 101 gastric cancer multidrug resistant cases and 100 controls were genotyped with sequence-specific primed PCR (SSP-PCR). Gene expression was evaluated for 70 multidrug resistant cases and 54 controls by real time PCR. The correlation between the two groups was based on secondary structures of RNA predicted by bioinformatics tool. Results: The results of genotyping showed that among 3 studied SNPs, rs28381943 and rs2032586 had significant differences between patient and control groups but there were no differences in the two groups for C3435T. The results of real time PCR showed over-expression of ABCB1 when we compared our data with each of the genotypes in average mode. Prediction of secondary structures in the existence of 2 related SNPs (rs28381943 and rs2032586) showed that the amount of ΔG for original mRNA is higher than the amount of ΔG for the two mentioned SNPs. Conclusions: We have observed that 2 of our studied SNPs (rs283821943 and rs2032586) may elevate the expression of ABCB1 gene, through increase in mRNA stability, while this was not the case for C3435T
