Reaching the Individual: A Proposed Federal Framework to Reduce Community-Based Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Imperfect competition in the labour market
It is increasingly recognized that labour markets are pervasively imperfectly competitive, that there are rents to the employment relationship for both worker and employer. This chapter considers why it is sensible to think of labour markets as imperfectly competitive, reviews estimates on the size of rents, theories of and evidence on the distribution of rents between worker and employer, and the areas of labour economics where a perspective derived from imperfect competition makes a substantial difference to thought
A Markov partition that reflects the geometry of a hyperbolic toral automorphism
We show how to construct a Markov partition that reflects the
geometrical action of a hyperbolic automorphism of the n-torus. The transition
matrix is the transpose of the matrix induced by the automorphism in u-dimensional
homology, provided this is non-negative. (Here u denotes the
expanding dimension.) That condition is satisfied, at least for some power
of the original automorphism, under a certain non-degeneracy condition on
the Galois group of the characteristic polynomial. The (nu) rectangles are
constructed by an iterated function system, and they resemble the product
of the projection of a u-dimensional face of the unit cube onto the unstable
subspace and the projection of minus the orthogonal (n - u)-dimensional face
onto the stable subspace
Work-role transition : from staff nurse to clinical nurse educator : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Philosophy in Nursing at Massey University
There is an imperative for health professionals today to maintain competence in clinical practice, which for registered nurses in New Zealand requires current experience of practice, continued professional development and education. In many organizations in New Zealand today, practice based clinical education for nurses is delivered by clinical nurse educators (CNEs). The purpose of this study was to explore the opinions and perceptions of CNEs as they transitioned from a staff nurse position to the CNE role, a designated senior position within the District Health Board (DHB) involved in this study. The aim of the study was to describe the experiences of CNEs in their first year in the role to gain a clearer understanding of the knowledge and skills required to be successful in the role. This understanding will enable a smoother and more satisfactory transition into the role and provide targets for career development for nurses aspiring to become CNEs. Qualitative description, using a general inductive approach was the methodology chosen to underpin this study. A sample group of eight CNEs from a New Zealand DHB were interviewed about their experiences using a semi structured interviewing technique. The results of the data analysis have been presented using Bridges (2003, 2004) transition theory as the theoretical framework. The data chapters are titled endings, neutral zone and beginnings. The main themes were; entering transition, getting started, chaos and turmoil, overwhelmed and opening doors. The themes present the feelings and perceptions of the CNEs using their own words. The CNEs experienced the journey through transition and discovered the role they had undertaken was much larger than expected. In addition information and shared understandings of the role were limited and orientation to the role, minimal. The CNEs experienced a variety of emotions and challenges while moving through this transition period. By sharing their stories and insights they have given the opportunity for learning to occur, which will enable improved succession planning, orientation and transition periods for future CNEs
A Growing City: Hydroponic Farming in Buffalo
The City of Buffalo is need of revitalization. Vacant lots, a declining economy, widespread poverty, and a lack of employment opportunities are just a few of the issues that the City needs to address. The City should consider implementing innovative policies, such as investing in and operating a hydroponic urban farm. Hydroponic farming is highly productive and requires a fraction of the resources of traditional farming. Although hydroponic farms are expensive to get started, they are ideal for urban areas because they can operate successfully on as little or as much land as is available. The City could also take advantage of State, Federal and private funding to help mitigate some of the startup costs. A hydroponic farm would be a creative reuse for Buffalo’s many vacant lots and brownfields, as hydroponic farming does not require soil

Integral dose during constant velocity motion near a space power reactor
The dose rate in a rotationally-symmetric radiation field near a space power reactor is assumed to be inversely proportional to separation distance squared and directly proportional either to a constant or a constant times the sine-cubed of a polar angle. Constant velocity motion is examined in both cases in both two and three dimensional geometries. The two dimensional geometry occurs when the line of motion and the field axis of symmetry are co-planar. The dose integral in the sine-cubed region may be integrated directly, but a more useful form is obtained after a change of variable. A coordinate system rotation greatly simplifies the results. The three dimensional problem is integrated after a change of variable. Finally, tables of normalized functions are presented and discussed
