Model-independent resonance parameter extraction using the trace of K and T matrices
A model-independent method for the determination of Breit-Wigner resonance
parameters is presented. The method is based on eliminating the dependence on
the choice of channel basis by analyzing the trace of the K and T matrices in
the coupled-channel formalism, rather than individual matrix elements of the

Urbanicity in Kentucky : a study on academic achievement in urban versus rural students.
When studying urbanicity, there is a large belief that rural students lag behind their urban counterparts in academics, both in preparation and success. This belief emerges as early as kindergarten and follows students up through secondary education. However, previous research has shown inconsistent results in how these students perform. The objective of this study was to determine if differences occurred in urban and rural students in their preparation for college, their perceptions of college, and academically once coming to college. Students from the Cardinal Covenant program at the University of Louisville (N = 54) were studied using information from the Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) and grade point averages (GPA). The results showed that there were no significant differences between urban and rural students
Pacific Island food security: situation, challenges and opportunities
In recent years, there have been large and rapid increases in the prices of basic foods worldwide. Pacific island countries have not been isolated from the global food 'crisis'. This article shows that there are substantial differences in the impacts within and between Pacific island countries. To be effective and not counterproductive, policy and donor responses need to be tailored accordingly. This article recommends a combination of measures directed at mitigating the threats and empowering rural people to take advantage of the opportunities
Multichannel parametrization of \pi N scattering amplitudes and extraction of resonance parameters
We present results of a new multichannel partial-wave analysis for \pi N
scattering in the c.m. energy range 1080 to 2100 MeV. This work explicitly
includes \eta N and K \Lambda channels and the single pion photoproduction
channel. Resonance parameters were extracted by fitting partial-wave amplitudes
from all considered channels using a multichannel parametrization that is
consistent with S-matrix unitarity. The resonance parameters so obtained are
compared to predictions of quark models
The Active Video Game Paradox
Evidence shows inactivity and obesity are a substantial global burden, economically and physiologically. Sedentary screen time strongly contributes to this burden. Sedentary screen time is often achieved through video game play. Active video games (AVGs) tried to solve the screen time problem. AVGs work, having small to moderate positive effects on activity levels and body composition changes. However, they perform consistently poorly on the commercial market. This represents a paradox: AVGs work pragmatically, yet underperform commercially, limiting their impact practically. The purpose of this study was to explore this paradox with the aim of understanding how AVGs compare to non-active video games (NAVGs), based on gameplay experience. Findings revealed that AVGs have a significant negative comparison to NAVGs. Qualitative exploration highlighted several important considerations; gamer motivation, the lack of quality and variety in AVGs, the stereotype in AVGs, and the practical limitations of the hardware that supports AVGs.
