Degradation of Textile Dye Reactive Navy – Blue Rx (Reactive blue–59) by an Isolated Actinomycete Streptomyces krainskii SUK – 5
The isolated Actinomycete, Streptomyces krainskii, SUK -5 was found to decolorize and degrade textile dye Reactive blue–59.This azo dye was decolorized and degraded completely by Streptomyces krainskii SUK–5 at 24 h in shaking condition in the nutrient medium at pH 8. Induction in the activity of Lignin Peroxidase, and NADH-DCIP Reductase and MR reductase represents their role in degradation .The biodegradation was monitored by TLC, UV vis spectroscopy, FTIR. and GCMS analysis. Microbial and phytotoxicity studies of the product were carried out
EFFECT OF LOWER ETHANOL GASOLINE BLENDS ON PERFORMANCE AND EMISSION CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SINGLE CYLINDER SI ENGINE
Alcohols, basically ethanol is considered as a leading alternative fuel for automotive application because of its ability to reduce the air pollution and cost of the fuel. This paper investigates the effect of lower ethanol gasoline blends (up to 20% by volume) on performance and emission characteristics of the single cylinder four stroke SI engine. Tests were carried out for power, torque, fuel consumption and brake mean effective pressure, while exhaust emissions were analyzed for CO, CO2, and HC by using different ethanol gasoline blends on volume basis at wide open throttle and variable engine speed from 4000 to 8000 rpm. Results were compared with the pure gasoline. It showed that as the ethanol content increases the power, torque, fuel consumption, brake mean effective pressure and CO2 emission while reduces HC and CO emission
Micronutrient supplementation in pregnancy: a KAP survey with healthcare consultants in India
Background: Maternal nutrition during pregnancy is a serious public health issue as it negatively impacts women and their children. The most commonly used nutritional interventions during pregnancy are folic acid and omega-3 fatty acid (n-3 FA). This survey aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and perception towards folic acid, n-3 FA and other supplementation amongst healthcare practitioners (HCPs).
Methods: A close-ended questionnaire-based survey was distributed among obstetricians-gynaecologists and HCPs overlooking pregnant and lactating women between July and September 2022 in India. An excel based survey analysis was performed once the survey completed.
Results: A total of 500 valid questionnaires were collected. Only 55% of them recommended n-3 FA, whereas 45% did not recommend as they believed that the typical Indian diet provides enough n-3 FA and supplements are not necessary. The majority (58.91%) of prescribers prescribed n-3 FA to all pregnant women, followed by older women with a history of abortion and high-risk pregnancy. Both eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid were favoured in clinical practice. In addition, 56.8% of HCPs recommended folic acid at a dose of 5 mg/day for patients with a bad obstetric history, while 43.2% of HCPs recommended folic acid at a dose of 1 mg/day.
Conclusions: Supplements and adequate nutrition can reduce the likelihood of poor maternal and foetal outcomes in high-risk pregnancies. Nutritional supplementation is a cost-effective and safe risk-reduction method, given the high prevalence of pregnancy complications. However, more knowledge dissemination on n-3 FA supplements, folic acid and micronutrients is essential
Pathogenic and Molecular Characterization of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceri Causing Chickpea Wilt through ISSR Markers
In the present investigation the pathogenic and genetic variability was assayed, amongst the seven isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceri (Foc) collected from different agro-climatic zones of Maharashtra State, India. The isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.ciceri were confirmed by SCAR marker which yielded 1.5 KD band. The pathogenicity of each isolate was confirmed using the wilt susceptible chickpea genotype JG-62. On the basis of pathogenic ability the isolates were grouped as highly pathogenic (FOC-2, FOC-5, FOC-6), strongly pathogenic (FOC-1,FOC-3) and moderately pathogenic (FOC-4,FOC-7). Eight Inter Simple Sequence Repeats primers (ISSRs) were used to determine the genetic variability in seven isolates Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceri. The seven primers produced 80 scorable bands. Off 80 bands, 73 bands were polymorphic and average level of polymorphism was 91.25 per cent. In UPGMA analysis, Foc-1 (Wardha) was found to have higher value of similarity coefficient (0.8375) whereas Foc-2 (Lonar) was found to have lower value of similarity coefficient (0.4625). The isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.ciceri were grouped into two major clusters. First group, cluster-A includes isolates belonging to Wardha, Washim and Lonar. Second group, cluster-B includes Nashik, Ahmednagar, Rahuri and Pune. It shows that Foc-1 (Wardha) have higher value of similarity coefficient with Foc-3 (Washim) whereas Foc-2 (Lonar) have lower value of similarity coefficient with Foc-5 (Ahmednagar). The similarity matrix indicated that seven isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.ciceri exhibited in between 46-84 per cent similarity coefficient

An Integrated Circuit for Signal Processing of the AMS RICH Photmultipliers Tubes
An analog integrated circuit has been designed, in a BiCMOS 0.8 micron
technology, for the feasability study of the signal processing of the AMS RICH
photomultiplier tubes. This low power, three channel gated integrator includes
its own gate and no external analog delay is requiered. It processes PMT pulses
over a dynamic range of more than 100. A logic output that indicates whether
the analog charge has to be considered is provided. This gated integrator is
used with a compact DSP based acquisition system in a 132 channels RICH
prototype. The charge calibration of each channel is carried out using a LED.
The pedestal measurement is performed on activation of a dedicated input. The
noise contribution study of the input RC network and amplifiers is presented.Comment: IEEE symp. on Nucl. Sci. and Med. Imaging, Toront
Fishery and biology of Penaeid prawns at Harnaii, Maharashtra
Penaeid prawn fishery at Harnaii in Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra was investigated during fishing seasons of 2002-03 and 2003-04 from mechanized (MLD) and hand operated trawlers (HT). During the two years, MLD contributed 86% and HT 14% to the average annual penaeid prawn catch of 2,242 t. The catch showed two peaks, a major during October-December and a minor during April-May in both the gears but abundance of the individual species differed. P. stylifera, Metapenaeopsis affinis, Solenocera crassicornis, Metapenaeopsis brevicornis, P. merguiensis and Metapenaeopsis dobsoni mainly constituted the fishery and their species composition, seasonal abundance, annual size distribution and monthly mean size were investigated. Biological studies on food, size at maturity, spawning period, sex-ratio and juvenile abundance were carried out to explain temporal abundance of the species in the fishery. Among the species P. stylifera, M. affinis and S. crassicornis exhibited distinct seasonality with two spawning peaks, one in pre-monsoon and the other in post monsoon period to produce two discrete broods while P. merguiensis despite two spawning peaks exhibited a single dominant brood. M. brevicornis showed monsoon and post-monsoon spawning while M. dobsoni showed only post-monsoon spawning. Migrations between nearshore and offshore waters resulted in mixing of the broods and they remained inseparable in the catch
New Constraints on Dispersive Form Factor Parameterizations from the Timelike Region
We generalize a recent model-independent form factor parameterization derived
from rigorous dispersion relations to include constraints from data in the
timelike region. These constraints dictate the convergence properties of the
parameterization and appear as sum rules on the parameters. We further develop
a new parameterization that takes into account finiteness and asymptotic
conditions on the form factor, and use it to fit to the elastic \pi
electromagnetic form factor. We find that the existing world sample of timelike
data gives only loose bounds on the form factor in the spacelike region, but
explain how the acquisition of additional timelike data or fits to other form
factors are expected to give much better results. The same parameterization is
seen to fit spacelike data extremely well.Comment: 24 pages, latex (revtex), 3 eps figure
The anticancer activity of an air-stable Pd(i)-NHC (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) dimer
A new dinuclear Pd(i) complex coordinating two bis(NHC) ligands revealed an unsuspected stability despite the unsaturation of the two metal centres. Even more surprisingly, the compound showed high and selective antiproliferative activity against different cancer cell lines and ovarian cancer tumoroids, and the mechanism of action was different from that of cisplatin
